The hotel is hard to find, there is a sign in Dunkeswell pointing in the direction of the hotel, but it is some 1.5 miles from the hotel which is down a road which becomes a narrow single track (I initially turned round and went back to Dunkeswell to ask for directions). There is no mobile phone reception in the... More

We got bought this break away by our friend for Christmas. We decided to book an extra night and are so glad we did. Soon as you arrive you are made to feel very welcome by all the staff, nothing seems to be too much trouble for them. The food was spectacular, the accommodation was very clean and spacious. We... We booked a room for 2days ,we stayed in the stable, it was very good, the room was very. Warm, just what we needed to dry out after our walk in the local countryside, we had a drink in the bar, which was just across the car park, the bar is well decorated out with oak panelling, the barman mike... Booked last minute in-between Christmas and New Year. Arrived around 7 pm to happy friendly staff. Room was one of five in a converted stable block,Really comfy bed , great heating( with windows that actually open for fresh air ) and fantastic shower. Lovely full English breakfast cooked to order in less than 5 minutes. Went for a walk round... More

Took my elderly mother-in-law for a birthday lunch...... Lovely lake view but a wee bit cold by the windows on a very chilly day.... Food excellent, as was the service. We ate from the lunch menu and weren't expecting such large portions, all beautifully presented. We had soup and goat's cheese tart as starters, Turkey roast and fish for mains,... More

From the outside on arrival had high hopes but this place is seriously lacking....we stayed in groom cottage upon walking in smelt fusty decor is very dated....best thing I can say is it is clean....I write this as I'm still here and wide awake as the bed is the worst I have ever had the misfortune to try sleep on... My husband and I recently stayed here in an Executive room for two nights. The sat nav brought us off the M5 at Wellington at J25 which meant we came through 9 miles of very small lanes to reach the hotel, rather than coming in from the main road from Honiton, which we did on the way out and was... We needed somewhere to stay near the village of Dunkeswell for a family funeral. We weren't quite prepared for the very narrow and winding roads that have to be negotiated to get to the hotel, but that's Devon for you. Our room was modern and spacious, away from the main building, and helpfully had its own parking space outside the... More

A lovely Hotel in the heart of the Country. Food very nice. but small portions. Can be cold in the marque if very cold outside. If the food is carried to the other end of the marque it can get cold in transit.. Lovely setting for a wedding.
