I brought my family to the hotel for breakfast as a treat, and it was everything we'd hoped for and more. Everything from the continental breakfast to the pancakes and full English was absolutely delicious and chef Karen went out of her way to accommodate every request we had which made the experience feel even more special. The front of house staff were all very friendly and welcoming, especially Sam and Kitty who made sure we had everything we needed the whole time we were there. Would highly recommend!
This weekend my family and I (15 in all) gathered at Ickworth to celebrate my 75th. The weekend couldn't have gone better. We had lovely rooms in the Lodge, suitable for my husband and I, children and grandchildren ranging in age from 6 to 14. Meals for so many can sometimes cause restaurants problems, not at the Ickworth, they were great, the staff coped with multiple requests, numerous changes of mind and various allergies with smiles and efficiency, and the food was lovely. The facilities were great, the grounds spectacular and we all had a wonderful weekend. Thank you Ickworth
On the whole we enjoyed our stay, we stayed in the main hotel which I think is just about worth the upgrade over staying in the lodge due to the convenience of anything you want to do being close by. Room was a nice size looking out into the gardens at the rear of the hotel. Bathroom looked tired in where shower is in bath, you can see shower has been replaced at some point and where old screws had been some silicone was just smeared on to seal hole instead of replacing the tile with hole in it, also silicone just smeared around shower valve where pipes come out of wall. Poor maintenance work more than anything and on the whole room was good. Spotted a radiator in one area that had obviously leaked before and just has a dishcloth wrapped around the pipe to stop it. All minor things though I suppose. Food/Dining, food was average, for £20 you get a burger in a bun and a few thick cut chips, no salad, no sauces offered by the waiter who served it. They also add a service charge to all bills. There is no bar at the hotel, if you want to have a drink you need to find a member of staff and ask for a drink, seems truly bizarre they have no bar or at least a dedicated member of staff in the lounge area to take drinks orders. I requested a drink from one waitress who said she would bring a drinks menu to me and totally forgot, so I had to go and find her again to order a drink. Drinks are expensive, about £28 for a bottle of wine which would be £8 at the most in a shop. £16 for a basic cocktail. On the whole the staff are very good, one waiter who just didn’t seem like he wanted to be there. Staff working around the reception area all seemed great. Bike hire is free, which is good. Bikes need some maintenance, brakes not working on some of them. Pool area, changing rooms need investment, no reason for them to be like they are, a small investment to refurbish them is all that is needed, doors not closing, showers just look old and dirty. Pool itself is nice, ceiling of pool area again needs work, rusty nails showing through that could easily be rectified with some simple maintenance. Hotel offers a baby monitoring service which is good. Hotel grounds are great but you will have seen the photos already. Would we stay again? Possibly, for me the price you pay for one night, for us was £380 you expect to not have to go looking for a member of staff to take a drinks order for you and food did not warrant the price and this is what let’s the hotel down apart from a few shoddy maintenance repairs spotted here and there. Just needs a bit of investment to refurbish some areas and the lack of bar/drinks ordering situation needs a rethink.…
Having booked this in January as a Christmas present for our Mothers, I was surprised to receive a phone call the afternoon before our visit to be told that the menu had changed and the price had increased. I find it hard to believe that this had happened that day so why were we not rang before. Whilst the Afternoon tea we had was very nice, the floor in the conservatory had not been swept, there were numerous cobwebs on the ceiling and the windows needed a good clean. When we arrived there was one of our forks on a seat cushion and one on the floor, Our order was taken but after that it was very difficult to attract the attention of any of the staff to get a second pot of tea. Then when we got the bill to find a 12.5% service charge had been added to the £35 each for the Afternoon tea which was a little steep. We will not be visiting again!!!…
We stayed at the hotel overnight.. Everything from arrival to the day of departure was excellent..the receptionist was extremely helpful & answered any queries we had with full knowledge of everything… The staff at dinner & breakfast were first class, all staff we encountered were so friendly & helpful.. The general manager Fay, such a lovely lady, a busy lady who whilst walking the hotel dogs took time out of her busy schedule to stop & chat with us..cannot fault anything with our stay.. Would most definitely recommend this hotel & I will 100% be returning for another stay.. Food was excellent & the afternoon tea was spot on..
Visited the hotel to have breakfast. Let me tell you it was, without doubt, a wonderful experience from start to finish. Service was excellent, Sam & his colleague were attentive throughout. The food, prepared by Karen, was just perfect. I’m gluten-free but felt very well catered for. The restaurant, situated within a National Trust site, is the perfect place to start your day. Definitely going back.
We are just back from a lovely 3 nights at this hotel. We went as a family of 4 - 7yr old and 2 yr old. We stayed in the lodge which is a 10 minute walk. We loved the walk up to the hotel. There is so much for the kids- bike rides (free to hire from hotel ) , swimming , movie night, games , adventure play area. The staff here are fantastic. Nothing is too much for them. The food was really nice. This is the ultimate family hotel. Can’t wait to go back!
We first visited the Ickworth 16 years ago and have been coming back regularly ever since. Once again the food was lovely and the service was brilliant. Amber was so helpful and kind as were all the restaurant staff. Thanks so much to Beth who knows I love to swim. We had our first ever Sunday roast at the Ickworth which was lovely and I recommend the children’s brownies even for adults! We stayed in Mollys which is a lovely room and has views over the garden. Very comfortable and with the lovely Bramley products. The only slight complaint is the slightly temperamental showers in the swimming pool area. I had two spa treatments thanks to Selina so we made full use of the facilities at the hotel although we didn’t see any of the movies, despite the fact I would have liked to see Peter Rabbit! It would be nice to have some grown up movies for after dinner or if the weather is bad! Overall a lovely stay and we will be back soon.…
We have just returned from a nights stay and to say it was disappointing is an understatement. Our room, cochrane, was horrible but we were change to amelie room which was lovely. We had dinner in Frederick's dining room and it's shabby to say the least, the carpet is 2 inches too small showing gripper rods and the curtains are frayed. We had 2 courses and when I came to checkout had to pay £40.50. I was told on checkout that we were allowed £26 each towards dinner and ours was over because we had a ribeye steak each. This was a gift from my son for mother's day and it doesn't say you are limited to what you can have. I was not told this when I made the booking either. We were called at 9am Sunday to state when we wanted breakfast on the Tuesday and it was still 40 minutes late. You get a better breakfast at a truck stop. If I want to leave a tip I will, I don't expect it to be added to my bill. All in all the place is grubby, the pool looked lovely but is open 9am till 7pm. No chance of a swim before breakfast or after when you have to check out at 10am. This is the third time we have visited and it will be our last. Food too expensive and average at best. Photo shows my gift email, nowhere does it give you an amount for dinner.…
Decided to visit the hotel after hearing several interviews on the radio from your breakfast chef , and after Vanessa Feltz said to chef that she was going to bring her grandchildren to sample the afternoon tea , we thought we would travel to beautiful Suffolk to witness this for ourselves .. We found a Beautiful and pleasant stately home , very faded grandeur.. Staff , and especially Sam were very friendly, and attentive and the afternoon teas were as chef said scrumptious, Next time we will stay , just to sample the famous breakfast cooked especially by the legend that is chef Karen . I hope you fully appreciate what a great personality and ambassador for the hotel that you have there , We were all willing her to get the job after Nigella Lawson and Zoe Ball wished her luck on her trial day .. Fantastic, keep up the good work Peter Raven .. London…
