Two night stay while touring the dales. Bargain and comfy with all you need and nice dining area. Friendly atmosphere and Denise is so so helpful as a hostess. Would recommend! Also has a drying room, area for keeping a bike and placed opposite the co-op for food.

Nice little place, good price for a hostel. Close to everything you may need: shops, pub and walking. Website said place was booked but I called up and found out there were spaces available. Denise was very trusting, welcoming and helpful.

I rarely put negative comments on Trip Advisor as I prefer to promote the positive but I find it very hard to see why so many people rated this hostel so high. I found the comments misleading. In my month in the UK it was the worst hostel I stayed in. The dirty / stained sheets were a real turn... More

The welcome may have been warm but the place badly needs some new bedding, bed linen and re-decoration. The linen did not look clean.I decamped to a nearby B&B as I couldn't bring myself to stay there. Downstairs shower eas stone cold and not clean. It is definitely overpriced for what it is. I regularly stay in YHA hostels but... More

We stayed as part of a stag party in the village. The owner was one of the few places willing to let us stay, even though we are a group of rowdy 35 year olds. The place was lovely. All the amenities we wanted, walking distance to all the pubs in Kirkby Stephen, a Coop shop over the road. The... More

Had an excellent stay at Kirkby Stephen Hostel. Our party of 18 were given a warm welcome from the lovely host and made to feel very comfortable throughout, even though we were a big group of guys and could easily have been treated with disdain. We were worried that we might disturb other guests at first but the layout of... More

If you are looking for five star comforts then don't come here. But if you're after a warm, friendly environment then don't hesitate and book a room. This converted chapel is full of character - the spacious lounge is a great place to relax and plan your day, and the kitchen has all you need to cook a meal or... More

For £20 a night this place is fine. We had a room which shared the shower and toilet with next door. Plenty of hot water, clean and comfy bunks. The Coop shop just over the road is great if you want to eat in but the lack of a microwave limited some of the choice. Please get a couple of... More

The Hostel had everything we needed at the end of a gruelling but brilliant 42 hour, 174 mile mountain bike ride up the Pennine Bridleway from Middleton Top in Derbyshire to the finish just outside Kirkby Stephen. The owner (Denise) could not have been more helpful and accommodating especially as we arrived at midnight! There was a place to store... More
