Been trying to stay here for a while now, however dates and availability just didn't work out. Finally managed to make it work last weekend, not disappointed at all, room was exceptionally clean, comfortable and overall very pleasant, dined in the bar on the evening and the fare was really good on choice, quality and cost. Only down side of... More

We spent last Saturday night at the Pheasant. The rooms are of a very high standard and the bed was extremely comfortable. Dinner on Saturday was delicious. I had the cod which was a generous size with very fresh fish and served with a lovely sauce. The staff were very helpful and friendly and we really enjoyed our stay. Thanks... More

Really good gastro pub food served by friendly smiley staff. Popular with the local racing community and very busy, but not disturbingly so. I did not have the cooked breakfast, but by the standard of the buffet it would be excellent. My room was surprisingly upmarket, decorated with thought, spacious and with a very good bathroom. Unfortunately I could not... More

My wife and I have just spent a Saturday night at the Pheasant where we stayed the night and had dinner, followed by breakfast on Sunday morning. It was genuinely excellent on all counts and we have a wide experience of these types of venue. The friendly welcome and ambience, high standards of service, quality of dining experience, attention to... More

Been here a number of times both for lunch and dinner. Food is first class and reasonably priced. Service good too with a nice atmosphere. Families and dogs are welcome which might not suit everyone but does not detract from the high standards on offer. Sunday roasts are first class but there are many other options to choose from. Close... More

Took my elderly parents out for a birthday lunch midweek. The restaurant/bar was busy enough to create a nice atmosphere. The staff were friendly and professional. Our food arrived in good time we were not kept waiting or felt hurried. The lavender and honey creme brûlée was to die for!

Enjoyed my last visit and return trip just as good. Busy bustling bar with some tasty local beers, very comfortable rooms which well appointed if somewhat small. Great bathrooms with loads of high pressure hot water...........what's not to like. Now includes full English in the B&B price which was previously lacking. Was visiting friends nearby who already had a houseful,... More

Booked at the last minute for just one night and couldn't have made a better choice. Superbly decorated rooms with obvious attention to detail, spotlessly clean, friendly staff, excellent food - surprisingly for a foody pub these days, the bar area has a warm & cosy atmosphere.

I had a great meal there recently but was disappointed tonight. As the first customers in we were expecting quick service but after what felt like an eternity my roast aubergine and triple cooked potatoes arrived. Sadly the 'roast aubergine' was a cold, sad, thin slice of aubergine, sitting on top a clod of pale sliced tomatoes, topped with cold,... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Bordering the village of Shefford Woodlands, The Pheasant has a hospitality pedigree that stretches back 450 years to when it first sheltered drovers herding livestock from Wales to London. Today, the newly refurbished pub and its eleven en-suite guest rooms offer an adventurous drinks menu, flavoursome modern British cooking, luxurious accommodation with outstanding value - and a warm, relaxed welcome. In January 2016, Jack Greenall became The Pheasant's new landlord and set about launching a new chapter for this well-loved local landmark. A sensitive refurbishment has brought the bar and restaurant a new, relaxed elegance with rich colours, comfortable furnishings and atmospheric lighting. Whether you pull up a vintage leather bar stool, hunker down in our cosy snug with its quirky print gallery and bespoke selection of local and general interest books or join friends at a table in the main dining space, it's a great place to sample our broad and imaginative drinks range and regularly changing menu which showcases the freshest and best local produce and unfussy, flavoursome cooking. Our approach to food is all about bringing together the best ingredients, simply and deliciously. Rooted in classic modern British cooking, our menu showcases the freshest meat, fish, vegetables and fruit and finest artisan products from around the country, while our diverse daily specials let us put local and seasonal ingredients centre stage. And then there's our accommodation, recently added and even more recently refurbished. Our guest bedrooms have all the relaxed, home-from home comfort you'd expect from a country pub, with the minute attention to detail of a smart hotel and a fresh, modern design approach. Elegant fluted armchairs, buttoned ottomans and individually hand-picked artworks are among the characterful features, while bathrooms, two of which have bathtubs as well as high-quality powerful showers, are stocked with indulgent handmade toiletries. All new bookings also include your choice from our full Breakfast Menu. ... more   less
