This was the first holiday since the COVID 19 lock down, we chose the Hotel Riu Monica in Spain because we have stayed here many times in the past, we find this hotel is in a great location, also have been very comfortable here with the excellent friendly staff running it, from management, reception, dining room, cleaners & room maids. We found it to be a good place to return to , to relax & visit the places in the Nerja area. No doubt we will return again in the future. Kind regards, L. Cornaby.
A very nice hotel, with half board is an excellent option. Food is very good too. Evening entertainment is very good. With their pool you can either bathe there or through the gate pop over to the beach. But Car Parking is a massive headache!! Hotel only offers 25 spaces! With a high occupancy where does one park? To make matters worse the hotel offers a small map of Nerja of parking places. So you can actually drives around for close to an hour and not find anywhere. There is a central parking at the Town Hall, but this is not cheap!
A high standard hotel in an excellent location. Nothing we could fault. Our room was on the 6th floor and the sea view was great. The staff, restaurant and facilities were all top class. Thank you Riu Monica for a wonderful holiday
Absolutely loved this hotel, food great, drinks were big and tasted gorgeous! Mainly elderly guests which would not be a problem if they didn’t get up at 6am each day to put their towels on a sun bed !!!however that’s the guests fault not the hotels, already booking for next year
The checking in process was probably the most efficient we have encountered. Welcomed with a glass of bubbly, a friendly staff member explained to everyone at once, in a clear and loud voice, the check in process, towel use, meal times etc., etc. The hotel and facilities were excellent. There was plenty of choice at meal times and all staff were friendly and polite. There was entertainment nightly which, although 'middle of the road' was very good. Cleanliness was outstanding, Covid measures and hand sanitisers ensured guests were re-assured. There were only two negatives - caused by people who disregard polite notices! There is a clear request that men wear long trousers in the evening in the dining room - it is confirmed in the comments on TripAdvisor, in their information booklet and at the entrance to the dining room. If men object to such requests then perhaps they should book a hotel with lower standards. The other negative is the "sunbed warriors" - those who insist on reserving beds as soon as the sun begins to rise. Many 'reserved' beds are not even used until late morning and by breakfast time there are at least 3/4 of beds already reserved. There should be a policy in place whereby beds not occupied after 1 hour will have towels removed. Young people are often vilified for their ignorance, selfish behaviour or flouting rules and requests however, considering the guests were of an age where 'young' could not be applied, it really beggars belief and we were not alone in commenting on this. Nerja itself is a stunning place, the Riu Monica is ideally placed for a stroll into town and the perfect place to stay.…
This is our second visit to the Riu Monica and we will certainly be back! The staff are wonderfully friendly and the food is top notch. There’s nothing not to like about it really. If I was to be picky then the towels in the room are the only thing to let it down. They really are small and thin and I’m not a big person at all….they were exactly the same on our last visit three years ago! The hotel is in a great location on the beach and with 10 mins walk of the town. There are a number of bars and restaurants right opposite the hotel which are ideal for popping out for a drink before or after your meal. We never go back to the same place twice but this hotel…and Nerja itself…are both worth going back to!
Please note that this is a review of the hotel only :-)and not the travel company:-( Staff were most helpful and friendly, nothing too much trouble, check in and out efficient. Hotel room was immaculate and we were greatly surprised that the partial sea view described was in fact brilliant, with the sound of breaking waves. Food was sensational. Plenty of sunbeds and beach towels. It was our ruby anniversary and my 65th birthday and the hotel provided a bottle of fizz in an ice-bucket in our room, a really thoughtful touch. Husbands luggage was missing for the first 3.5 days of our 7 days, compensation was sorted by the rep. but link has expired. Love it if the hotel could get Tina or Stephanie to get in touch with us so that we can sort it. Will not go into all the travel problems we encountered, but the hotel was magic and we will return.…
We stayed ten days at the Riu at end of April/May and it was fabulous. Excellent choice of food in the cafeteria and very good facilities in the hotel. Polite and friendly staff everywhere. The only complaint we had was the choice of drinks in the hotel. Only three beers to choose from, none of which my husband liked - no San Miguel which is weird considering the factory is in Malaga. We enjoy good wine and we could not find a decent bottle on the list, no decent rose either. But I think we were in the minority on this as most people seemed happy with the wine choices. No water available either, we had to buy small bottles. Thankfully the shop across the road helped us out with this issue. Overall a great stay, shame you don’t offer just b&b though as it would be good to have the option to eat at one of the many good restaurants in town.…
Visited this lovely hotel last week of April for 7 nights. Had a taxi transfer from Malaga airport (62€). Check-in was swift with a welcome drink. Room wasn’t quite ready, but was allowed to leave cases in luggage room. Room was spacious with a fridge, safe, aircon & ceiling fan. Sadly no kettle, but I knew before we left & took my own. The bathroom was great with the biggest shower cubicle I’ve ever seen! There was a frosted glass wall from the bedroom to the bathroom which was great for allowing light, but not good in middle of the night as when you put bathroom light on, it lit up the whole bedroom too! The only minor downside to the room was the shocking towels! They are brown, small & poor quality - the pool towels provided were better! Everywhere around the hotel & bedroom was kept spotless, inside & out & all staff were very friendly & helpful. Pool area was great, through a gate onto a pedestrianised prom & then the beach. Food at both breakfast & dinner was probably the best we’ve had anywhere in Spain/Balearics - so much choice! Hotel is situated in a great location with bars & supermarkets across the road & about a 15minute walk into the town itself which is really nice. We will definitely be returning to the Riu Monica. Thanks for a great first holiday back after covid!…
We have recently returned from Riu Monica Nerja Spain this is an excellent hotel staff where great food was very good always found something to eat, everywhere was very clean, we upgraded to a sea view and were on the 6th floor which was great the only downside were the lifts which were very slow this was the only criticism of this hotel. We went out every night to the bars around where the Redondo is we never any problems or hassle very busy at time but very good. On returning via Malaga airport there were no warnings about the queues for passport control which were very long and I am sure some people must have missed their flights. All in all, this was a great holiday value for money and we are already looking to book the same hotel for later this year.
