The Markree is not a hotel but a wedding and corporate venue. It was built by a general in Oliver Cromwell's invading army then fell into disrepair and was restored. Hollywood shoots romantic films here - what more do you need to know? It is...More

It was an amazing location!!! The renovations have really paid off. There was even a Hallmark movie being filmed the day I was there - Royally Ever After! The food at the castle was splendid, and atmosphere was phenomenal.

This picturesque castle is truly exquisite. Beautifully restored interiors are breathtakingly beautiful. Sumptuous food. Exceptional service and presentation. It was a wedding venue to remember. For anyone looking for some privacy to party, Markree must be considered.

It's not every day you get to stay in a castle. Each room is different, comfortable and full of architectural features. You need time to just roam and find all the special little places that are all over the castle including a gallery of pictures...More

What is the easiest way to get from Dublin airport to Markree Castle? I do not want to rent a car as I am concerned about driving on the left side of the road, as well as a gear shift that is "backwards" from what I am used to. I am looking at either a bus (via Bus Éireann) or a train (via Iarnród Éireann). Which is the better option (I arrive in Dublin airport at 11:45 a.m.)? For the bus, do I want to start at "Dublin Airport (Arrivals Road- Stop 1)?" And what destination would I want? The bus ends at 8 different stops. Do I want the "Bus Station?" Or some other end point, like Liscarney House? What departure point would I want if I take the train? What is the startng pint closest to the Dublin airport? Dublin Connolly? Someplace else? The train stops in Sligo, MacDiarmada. Is that what I want? Help, please! :-)

I think that would be no problem, but its not really a place I would recommend to stop for tea or dinner. When we had dinner it was so noisy we tried to find another place to take our dinner and so we ate in the lounge but... More
