Recently stayed here as part of a school trip. It was amazing for the kids, a great space outdoors and an entertainment room inside. The rooms were lovely and quite modern. The only thing that let it down was the food. Had both dinner and breakfast here and was really unimpressed by both. As it is so remote we also got to see the northern lights, it was beautiful!

We stayed here for 2 nights as this house is perfectly situated for a Golden Circle trip. We rented the house. It is very spacious with 3 bedrooms, a large livingroom with open kitchen and a bathroom. When we arrived it was chilly but there are a lot of heaters so it turned comfortably very quickly. We even organised our own movie-night because the living has a very large TV-screen with Netflix! Loved our stay here.

We loved this hotel being in the middle of nowhere (ideal for northern lights watching when any). Rooms are comfortable (possibly not super well sound-isolated, as we understood because they provide ear-plugs but we didn't hear anything). Staff is very friendly, breakfast was good

I would definitely not recommend staying at Vatnsholt. The rooms are very small and do not look at all like the ones they model in their photos. They only offered one blanket on their beds without sheets and it was cold. I did not have my own bathroom, I had to share one with multiple other guests outside of my room. The food menu at their restaurant is extremely limited and very expensive. It's mostly a selection of cheap, bad and overpriced pizzas. I hardly slept at all during my stay here, as there is little insulation in the walls so that I could hear the other guests all night who came in late and were very loud, as they chose to stay up and talk loudly instead of sleeping after returning to their rooms. The service is very bad. Because they are short staffed, the employees have to function in multiple roles. However because of this I had to wait half about an half when I came in to check in, as the host was working in the kitchen. The rates charged online versus the rates charged at the hotel are quite different. I was having trouble with my internet because Vatnsholt is a little bit further out in a rural area. Because of this I was not able to successfully book a room at Vatnsholt online. I asked the staff about this and asked if I could pay for the room at the rates I saw listed on the internet, as their rate was much higher than this. The staff pretended not to be aware of the lower rates for their hotel online, even when I showed them pictures of the screenshots I had taken for their hotel room listings online. I did not appreciate this rude approach, they could have simply said they don't offer the rates available online. All in all, I would strongly advise you to stay somewhere else and avoid Vatnsholt, as I had a very bad experience there.

We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The hotel is sort of in the middle of nowhere but easily accessible. For the price we paid, the room was great. We stayed in a building next to the main one. A decent breakfast was included too. The staff was polite and professional. I would stay again and recommend it.

Accommodation was decent but very low quality with shower being temporary and room very small for 3 people. Food wasn’t great and location is very remote. You get what you pay for. Would only recommend if you are on a tight budget.

This place is average at best. I’m going to start with the positives since people are so negative, and I actually hate complaining, but was left unimpressed. Pros: 1. The staff are INCREDIBLY friendly and sweet!! Extremely hospitable! 2. There is a 24/7 coffee and tea bar that can be accessed in the main building. 3. The location is VERY remote and serene and there is a horse farm next door, the main building also had a VERY SWEET and VERY ADORABLE dog! Everyone loves a sweet dog! 4. Comfortable beds. Cons: 1. THIS IS NOT A FARM! LOL it is advertised on many sites as a farm. It’s a former farm where the barn and buildings are now a lobby, restaurant, and rooms. This is basically just a hotel in the middle of farms that used to be a working farm at one point. 2. The decor is weird as hell! I’ll post pictures. It feels like what I would image as some rural soviet area hotel/lodge in Russia. Random couches and family room settings that do not match are all of the lobby. All of the furniture feels completely random and second hand. 3. The shower in our bathroom was like a plastic telephone booth that was not fully fascinated to the floor. It would move when someone moved in the shower. We also ran out of hot water because it seemed the building we stayed in was full, and we all must have shared a hot water tank. 4. The bedroom furniture was also random and it felt like I was in a large dorm. Stains on the chair, and random, unmarried furniture. This was our third rural location in Iceland, and the two others were SO BEAUTIFUL and charming, and were actual farms. The two precious locations probably made this location even more disappointing.

It’s insanely unhygienic to put pillows that has never been washed as a pillow for your head to sleep on! How do I know they haven’t been washed? The cover was not removable from the pillow and it had some hair on it from a previous customer. I would like an answer from the hotel on why they think it’s acceptable to have unwashable pillows in the bed? If the cover is not removable you cannot wash it unless you are going to throw the whole pillow in the machine, which im sure you do not. So disgusting. Got that unwashed pillow plus one clean which was super thin and lumpy! Neither me nor my boyfriend were happy and we almost left. Never again…

We stayed in one of their lovely cottages. Very cute and warm and we had a lovely stay. Was a great stop off point before going back to Reykjavik. The main building was also lovely, with complementary hot drinks and a games room. Warm and welcoming.

My husband and I stayed at Vatnsholt on the first night of our trip and also reserved the previous night so that we would have a room available when we arrived to nap in after our overnight flight. Vatnsholt was very pleasant to deal with both before our trip and during it. We emailed them ahead of time to let them know we reserved the night before our stay hoping for an early morning check-in and they were happy to accommodate. The room itself was cozy and clean. It was a bit hot but we're used to sleeping with air conditioning, and that's not really the accommodations' fault. The bed was comfortable enough. The hot water did run out pretty quickly in the morning and the bathroom was very small, making it difficult to find somewhere to put our toiletries. The wifi was very good. The grounds were lovely! It was nice seeing livestock roaming the property. It was very quiet at night. We paid $207.03 for the two nights, which was reasonable. I'd recommend Vatnsholt to those looking for reasonably-priced accommodations near Selfoss.
