We stayed at this hotel for two nights. The rooms are updated and fresh with more of a beach feel than a Scandinavian feel. I think the hotel was originally designed to be an adult community which is why it feels more like a housing...More
We especially liked the accommodations of 3 bedrooms, kitchen, living area, and hot tub. The furnishings were comfortable and the full kitchen was handy. We walked to the dining room for dinner and buffet breakfast. The food was plentiful and delicious. We only stayed one...More

I think in order to understand where this hotel is coming from, you have to understand Iceland’s tourism market. My understanding is that before the global tourist influx since the 2010 volcano eruption, the primary visitors to Southern Iceland would have been Icelanders themselves and...More
Hotel Grimsborgir was a perfect distance to drive following a red eye flight from JFK, NY to Reykjavik. We were tired upon arrival to Iceland at 6:30 a.m. Once we picked up the rental car and drove to the Hotel Grimsborgir, we were delighted to...More

The hotel is located in the countryside, 10 minutes from Selfoss the closest town. It is on the golden circle route so there are many activities and things to see and do around the area. You can do the golden circle one day or even do part of it in one day and the other half on another day because there are many small stops and interesting things to do.
You can also go to the south coast on one of the days.
There is an outdoor swimming pool in selfoss which is only 10 minutes drive from us, and also other pools in all of the towns around us, as well as natural pools such as: Secret Lagoon and Fontana Spa (in Fontana Spa they also bake rye bread in the ground in the natural hot springs around them and you can join a short tour to see how they bake and taste it)
You can do horse riding on one of the farms in the area, which can be great fun for both children and adults.
Hveragerði is a town about 20 minute drive from here, where there are a lot of hot spring around and inside the town, there are green houses there (Where they even grow bananas!) and also a hot river which you can hike up to and bathe in the natural hot river. It takes about 1 hour to hike up to the river, but the accesibility depends on the weather when you are here. If you are coming now in the winter months it might be more complicated to access the path up the mountain to the river.
Snow mobiling - you can do snow mobiling from Gullfoss waterfall. There can be two persons on each snowmobile so you could take the children with you or you can pay a little extra to have one of the children to go with one of the guides if you prefer.
There are even more things you can do around here so if you have anything specific in mind, please do not hesitate to contact us via e-mail.
