"To retreat" means withdrawing to a quiet or secluded place away from everyday routine. A place that is sheltered and private. This is what Torfhus Retreat offers you. The architectural style of the Retreat is inspired by an Icelandic Viking farm at Stong. All buildings are of the classic Icelandic torfhouse style, made of stones, turf and wood.

I absolutely enjoyed our 5-nigts stay in Torfhus retreat. It was my first time in Iceland ever, all our sightseeing tours were booked by Torfhus management, they were very well organized with the highest quality service. The hotel stuff and management are very friendly and helpful. We stayed as a small group of 4 people in a 2-bedroom house, the house was brand new, tastefully decorated and thoughtfully equipped with everything a traveler might need. The hot tub with regulated water temperature just outside of our house was a perfect addition to our Iceland experience and a great way to finish the busy day. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel, the food was excellent. In the mornings it was a good selection of breakfast food with a choice of amazing freshly baked breads. Each night our Chef Tóti surprised us with his incredible dinners and fantastic presentations, his food alone is worth paying a visit to the Torfhus. Overall, it was an amazing experience in a beautiful peaceful place within proximity to incredible Icelandic attractions.

We had a wonderful stay at Torfhus Retreat. The whole facility is completely new built, there are small houses (for 4 People each) and the main house where breakfast and dinner is served. Each house is equipped with a "hot pot" where you can relax and enjoy after a heavy sightseeing tour. The houses are furnished very classy and with great attention to detail. All the staff and the management is very friendly and helpful. All in all we enjoyed our stay at Torfus Retreat a lot, it's the perfect location to retreat and to relax.

We stayed at the Torfhus Retreat for 3 nights and booked a house for our family. We were greeted by a very friendly host at the reception who informed us about the hotel's special architecture (based on Vikings craftsmanship). The house we booked had 2 bedrooms, an open kitchen and a bathroom. The wooden interior of the rooms was stunning! We also had our own hot pool. My husband and I loved the free coffee and beverages they provided. And our two children liked to watch Netflix on TV the evening we came back from our daytrip. Our host Lena was also really helpful and took care of all our requests. The breakfast buffet (included in the price) offered a great selection of culinary treats. We also had a very delicious dinner in the Langhus - and an extraordinary view on the turfhouses and icelandic horses. The hotel is really well located - we could visit the geyser and the national park within 15 to 30 minutes. The Gullfoss waterfall was also quickly accessible. My husband and I would have loved to have some wine in our hot pool, however Lena explained that they offer special cups instead (for safety reasons). Overall, our family had a wonderful time at Torfhus Retreat, we had an unforgettable stay in Iceland and would love to come back again!
