My now fiancé invited me on an surprise adventure that included a stay at the Torfhus retreat. After a delicious vegan and gluten free dinner, we relaxed in the stone hot tub watching the northern lights and a shooting star and my then boyfriend proposed ❤️✨🥰 I highly recommend this place because of their excellent services, beautiful surroundings and I was especially grateful for all the delicious vegan and gluten free food they made for us👌
Torfhus is just IMPRESSIVE! Developed with a solid foundation in Icelandic history with the Longhouse for meals and gatherings, the individual Turf houses (Torfhus) for privacy, and complemented by the luxurious outdoor private hot pool made within solid Icelandic basalt lava rock with your own geo-heated natural water, Torfhus offers a unique Icelandic resort concept. Location is wonderfull, very close to Geysir and Gullfoss on The Golden Circle; thus, Torfhus offers either a night’s break from your exploration of this area to/from Reykjavik; or more than that, as a vantage point for exploring this part of Iceland over several days. The food in the restaurant is exquisite - always a surprise menu, and all dishes made from local foods and ingredients only. Eco-balance is a major theme at Torfhus, so despite the luxury and uniqueness offered, the place is emission neutral. Significant thoughts, commitment and efforts have gone into developing Torfhus as this unique Icelandic destination: We certainly cross our fingers that they will come strong through the current Corona-crises, to get the opportunity to invite the world to this genuinely fantastic place to experience the best of Iceland! …
My Icelandic husband and I stayed at Torfhús Retreat and both decided it is the best accommodation in Iceland. The setting is beautiful close to some spectacular and popular sites on the Golden Circle but secluded enough to enjoy a little solitude. We had an entire house built in the old style with a turf roof, rustic and beautifully designed with a lot of attention to detail and high tech integrated. The reclaimed wood inside is gorgeous and there are all the amenities in a very rustic and fanciful style. The furnishings are luxurious. We had our own private geothermal hot tub beside the house made with stuðlaberg (basalt). The service is excellent and the food was delicious. The dinner started with 7 huge portions of a variety of appetizers followed by the most tender veal I have ever had. The desert was their homemade ice cream and mousse with fresh berries grown in the area. They picked the berries the same day. Breakfast was buffet style with ample, healthy hot and cold choices. Thank you Torfhús we will be back.…
Such a magical place! The setting is inviting and serene and the staff was so kind and welcoming. Although new, it feels more like a place people have gathered for ages. The cabins had everything you could need and our meals were fantastic! We stayed here for the last two nights of our honeymoon and were treated like VIP's. I'd say it's a once in a lifetime experience, except I'm definitely planning on going back!
As two newly wed on our honeymoon we spent 2 nights at the retreat. What can we say. The experience was extremely agréable. And to think they only opened recently! The retreat are built with high quality in mind: rooms are soundproof; Hot tubs are prefect to watch the northern lights; many local attractions within 30minutes drive and the food is succulent with great services. I’m giving it a 5 stars and you will too!
