Having come to eat dinner at the restaurant a couple of years ago we finally came to stay for a Saturday night. The rooms are beautiful and we had magnificent views. The complimentary fizz on arrival was very welcome. The bar was a little too busy to find a seat but the quiet sofa area in the reception provided a... More

Pleas don't waste your hard earned money here. If you experience bad weather you will be bored to tears and in the middle of nowhere. Our shower flooded and my fiancée slipped. Our twin beds were not our king bed that we booked a month in advance. The pool is one thing to do but of course it was closed... More

We had to stay here after seeing the location on Travel Man, and it didn't disappoint. The approach road was snowy but driveable and the location so remote. Beautiful stay and divine meal in the evening. The potter in the outdoor pool was unforgettable. Yes, expensive, but an experience I'll never, ever forget. Oh and the cheesecake dessert.... what can... More

We stayed one night we'll we toured Iceland in our rental car. Paid about $450 for the night, so a pricey one night sleep while they were painting our hallway. Very remote hotel. The Northern Lights Bar is a great design; all open glass so the view is wonderful. However this night the lights did not come out. But one... More

We came in winter and the road there was filled with potholes but all that didn't matter once we got to the hotel. It's in the middle of nowhere but that's the attention. Rooms have big windows that look out onto the nearby geothermal power station or to the lava fields. They have a heated outdoor pool. The Northern Lights... More

The biggest struggle the hotel faces is not so much its quality (very good) but rather tying it in with the expectations it creates. Yes, it is next to a geothermal plant (which you will see if you have an "even" room number and yes the restaurant prices are somewhat diet inducing (as is the case in most of Iceland... More

We stayed here for one night on our honeymoon, and while the design of the hotel is nice, it was a rip off, even given the higher prices already in Iceland. The hotel is very remote which is nice, but breakfast was not even included in the $400 rate and there was nowhere nearby to get food otherwise. Room was... More

This is where my husband and I stayed the first night of our honeymoon. We were greeted at reception with congratulatory sparkling wine and the evening just kept getting better! Our room was beautiful, giant window to see the landscape. The restaurant there was very good- we had a delicious dinner. Back in the room I happened to look out... More

I felt misled by the Starwood level 6 rating, and the clever video on Ion's website. As a platinum Starwood member for a few years, I have traveled to many luxury hotels, including Scandinavian luxury hotels, and this is certainly not a luxury hotel. We stayed several nights, and requested to change our room at least 3 times, therefore staying... More

I would definitely stay at Ion again. We got a decent off-season rate of around $225, which is comparable to many other lesser hotels in Iceland. Why I would go again is because it provides you with an actual experience (as other Design Hotels do), rather than just a fancy room. We loved the the area and hiked around the... More
