-Theres nothing luxuries about this place besides the price -The rooms are small and old -Shower was really old and poor facilitated - Pics look much nicer than reality -You are a captive of the hotel and they take advantage of that - as its located in the middle of nowhere, you are likely to have breakfast at the hotel-...

Stayed for two nights at the Ion Hotel and must say we were a little disappointed. I think it trades on its design credentials alone and does no more than play lip service to the idea of being an adventure hotel. Handily positioned next door to the geo thermal plant tends to reduce some of the visual appeal at least...

Feels to me like the hotel has recently received a few undeserved overly negative reviews. Iceland has seen tourism figures exploding within a few years. I guess that explains the style of about 90% of hotels outside of Reykjavic - simple and modest boxes without any particular style. On top of that the price level in Iceland is comparable to...

File this property in the absolutely love it or loathe it category. My gut tells me that this hotel is all about concept and a certain view or perspective on F&B. If you are open minded and adventurous and used to high end hotels you will appreciate the novelty and uniqueness of this resort. If you are a stickler for...

Ion is an outstanding stop -- great location just minutes from the National Park, excellent food and service, great bar, good spa and a truly unique -- and uniquely remote location. I went with my son on a boys trip but there were all types of groups (families with small children, young couples, older folks). Highly recommended as part of...

I agree with others that don't understand the "luxury" designation. It is cute, well decorated, and nordic feeling but doesn't elicit any feeling of "luxury." I loved the northern lights bar but spent most of our waking ours out on the road. We were staying in April and didn't expect to see the northern lights but were pleasantly surprised on...

It's all been said in recent reviews, but to summarise, this place was probably hip a decade ago, but now it's getting shabby and there's not much love in the place. Arrival involved negotiating a moat of thick ice to get into the car park, (which had only been partly cleared), and navigating round a rather incongruous skip. Check in...

Let's start on a positive: Stunning location- check Middle of nowhere- check Friendly staff and sparkling wine on arrival- check! Unfortunately that's where it ends. For the price of the rooms per night and the price of food and drink... this hotel is NOT luxury and should not be advertised as such. Corridors to rooms are very narrow and dark....

I almost always read the Tripadvisor reviews before i go someplace. This time i did not because my husband organized this 60th birthday trip for me. If i had read what everyone has said, i am sure we would not have stayed at the ION. All the other review have covered the outrageously bad service- really, really bad service- bad...

If they had just not called it Luxury, I would be giving this a higher rating. This is a great place, just not "luxury" for many reasons. The rooms are very small. I'd suggest that they take 2-4 rooms and either blow out the wall to make a large room or create a doorway for a suite layout. We would...
