This property should not be rated as a 3 star hotel. A 4 star would be more appropriate. Service is very good and so is the food. At the restaurant, the staff was not only attentive but also catered to our dietary requirements. The hotel's location is outstanding if one plans to hike the region. There are several amazing trails nearby. This is the second year in a row we have stayed and we plan to return next year. If you like hiking, this is the place to stay!
They advertice SPA which consists of hot tub (not so hot) and very small sauna only cold. Rooms are small with uncomfortly chairs. Very good bed. The surrounding nature is fantastic and view from room window is fantastic. Resturant Silfra has a very good menu and fantastic food as dinner, but service is average. Breakfast table is average. Silfra and ION are two different companies and staff does not have common goals and service could be a lot better with more smiles.
This is a unique hotel, with a good restaurant and a fantastic-looking bar. If we were going on that criteria alone, it is terrific. But as many others have reported, the customer service and overall attitude of the hotel staff severely impacts the overall experience. And I'm not talking about American customer service vs. European. I expect less when I travel overseas, so expectations are much lower. That said, if you're paying $500 USD+ for one night in a small room, you hope the service is passable. We had multiple issues, including them not being able to find our reservations at check-in. Only 44(?) rooms so even if you are looking at them manually (I hope they're not doing that), it shouldn't take more than a minute or two. I finally had to show the reservation on my app. The restaurant is high-quality for a place that remote, but, once again, the service :( . Overall, just a bummer for a hotel that I really want to love. Hopefully, they'll listen to the feedback and make the needed changes.…
By far the best hotel I’ve visited in a while! Staff were friendly, the room was smart and clean, and the amenities are lovely - the pool and northern lights bar are particular highlights. Only strange thing we found was a huge artwork of London (feat yoda?) on the bar wall which would’ve been much nicer to reflect something local. Overall I Recommend HIGHLY, and also suggest allotting a few hours for a swim and drink at the bar in the evening time. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
My wife and I took a long weekend at the Hotel Ion and it was heaven. The rooms are modern and let the outside scenery in. The restaurant is delicious, focusing on local foods. The bar overlooks the landscape and features authentic Icelandic spirits. And the natural hot spring pool under the overhang of the hotel, complete with amazing moss in the water (smells awesome!) is the capper. And small enough to not feel crowded. AND, they set up a day of super jeep tours for us so we could see geysirs, falls, glaciers, etc. What a spot!
The hotel has a really nice location in the national park but the power plant spoils the view a little. For me the highlight of the hotel was the bar because of the nice view and the interior. The staff were mostly friendly. The restaurant was a catastrophe when we were there all fish menus were out and we didn’t have a lot of options. Don’t order the falafel,is gross.
We recently stayed at this hotel, which overlooks the power plant, not as pictured. It is in the middle of NOWHERE, AND SUPER HARD TO FIND. We stayed there in order to receive credit from Marriott, and because it was associated with a reliable company that we have been faithful to for 700+ times. AFTER OUR STAY, WE DID NOT RECEIVE CREDIT FOR A MONTH, EVEN THOUGH THE FRONT DESK SAID THAT WE WOULD. WE CONTACTED MARRIOTT AND WERE TOLD THIS HOTEL DOES NOT PARTICIPATE, ALTHOUGH THERE IS NO REFERENCE TO THIS AT ALL ANYWHERE. We did not receive any Point or Night stay credit from Marriott. IN ADDITION, when our friends had to change their flight in order to accommodate a cancellation due to bad weather the next day, they were not given any credit at all because they had booked with Booking.com, and not with Marriott. This was not their fault, but were given no compassion by this organization. DO NOT STAY HERE. THE PROPERTY IS TIRED, very hard to get to, the FOOD IS EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE and not good at all, AND POOR CUSTOMER RELATIONS IF THERE IS A PROBLEM. STAY IN REYKAVIK INSTEAD, AND SEE THE LIGHTS. THE POOL WAS FILTHY, AND FILLED WITH ALGAE. IF THERE WAS A ZERO, IT WOULD BE THE RATING FOR THIS PLACE.…
Although smaller than it looks in the pictures, this hotel was very nice. Clean, comfortable and modern. The rooms are a good size as was the bathroom. The staff was very friendly, courteous and helpful. The restaurant menu is very limited, but the food is excellent. The hotel is very secluded so you will need a car if you want to explore the area.
The staff was amazing! Very friendly and nice. We hot stuck one extra night because of the weather and the staff where so helpfull and nice! Never had this good service anywhere. The rooms and food was very good! Beautifull pool and northern light bar! Everything here was perfect!
This was the most disappointing hotel I’ve ever stayed at, and EXTREMELY overpriced for what you get. The hotel overlooks a power plant - really scenic. The entire hotel smelled of sulfur - it was impossible to fall asleep because of it. Unfriendly staff. WiFi does not work. “Gym” does not open until 10am (in what world does this happen at a hotel?).... I could go on. Save your money and your nostrils and book ANYWHERE but here.
