This place is fantastic - easily the coolest and most enjoyable hotel I have ever been to. I had an amazing experience here and I would recommend it to anyone. Efstidalur is an actual working dairy farm with a small number of rooms, a restaurant, and an ice cream bar/cafe. The rooms are comfortable and cozy (ask for a room...

Was my second visit in 10 months. Pretty much a working farm, with restaurant attached to the barn. First time around I had the Icelandic meal, wonderful - great salad and soup, then lamb, trout (I think), mushrooms, potatoes. And of course their home made ice creams - salted caramel my favorite. So, in October I take my sons to...

We wanted to eat at an authentic Icelandic restaurant. We were also seeking super fresh ingredients. We are so glad we happened upon Farmhotel Efstidular. This beautiful property with spectacular views fit the bill. It has two restaurants on the property, a cafe and restaurant. The cafe has coffees, desserts and of course homemade ice cream and yogurt from their...

I am a photographer and I stayed 2 nights in this hotel during my round trip through Iceland. As I arrived in the night I was lucky to easily find the hotel. The rooms are cozy and offer a heated floor and it was overall clean. The apartment offers a shower which works fine, only the ventilation system is useless...

This hotel truly has all the ingredients to be a perfect experience: it's in an idyllic location looking over an expanse of flat land, it has two particularly welcoming dogs with whom my sons fell in love, the included breakfast was outstanding and a great reflection on Icelandic food, the staff (particularly the Polish staff) were wonderfully helpful and friendly...

What a great suprise. From the friendly farm dogs, to the lovely family to the cute cabin style rooms. Warm and welcoming, with a personalised touch. Great location for the golden circle. The cabins were warm, clean, spacious and comfortable. To top it off we saw the northern lights. Food and ice cream were tasty! We just wish we had...

Support your local farmers!!!! This family is pure bliss, so humbled and so loving. They work hard on this farm to put food on the table for their guests and their home so why not come in and test out their homemade goods!!! The feta cheese is delicious and the ice cream + waffle cone is the perfect ending! Oh...

We decided on this Iceland trip we would save money on accommodation and go for mid-priced accommodation. And this place was great. Friendly staff welcoming you, great restaurant with food sourced from the farm (or nearby) - where you can watch the cows who make some of their delicious ice-cream, eat below in their barn. Accommodation is basic but warm,...

This was a wonderful farm hotel with Icelandic horses and cattle. The rooms were very spacious with beautiful countryside views. The only downside to the rooms was that we could completely hear our neighbors through the walls. The restaurant on premises was very good and we also enjoyed the farm's ice creamery. They offer laundry service here but it is...

Staying at a working farm is always a great way to break the cycle of hotels. This location is alittle off the beaten path but worth the trip. We stayed in a cozy small cabin room with bathroom. Desk is in the restaurant building and everyone was VERY nice and welcoming. Food at dinner was great and breakfast was even...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We are a family run business that offer comfortable stays in the Icelandic country side. We offer rooms with great views over the valley and are right in the middle of the Golden Circle route. We also offer a summer time horse rental with trips to a local waterfall, as well as our farm to table restaurant and coffee shop with home made ice-creams. Here people can see into our dairy and watch the cows whilst they eat the products that come from them. Everyone is welcome to stop by here at Efstidalur for a taste of the traditional Icelandic farm life. ... more   less
