#2 of 2 hotels in Kirkjubaejarklaustur
Located in the South-Eastern part of Iceland, a place famous for its scenery of the biggest glacier in Europe, Vatnajökull, and lava fields, Hotel Klaustur opened its doors in 1993. Hótel Klaustur features 57 rooms including Erró Suite, KLAUSTUR restaurant and a bar. Our emphasis has always been to provide a warm welcome for our guests, from family travelers to celebrity movie directors and photographers pursuing the magical views of local nature. The hotel was renovated in 2019 and re-opened recently with a unique brand identity – a fusion of modern Icelandic culture and local heritage. Our hotel acquired the name of its village – Kirkjubæjarklaustur, or “Klaustur” as it is usually referred to by locals, a town located on the famous Ring Road between the two of Iceland’s most famous glaciers, Vatnajökull and Mýrdalsjökull. Several tourist attractions are situated near the town, including Vatnajökull National Park, the canyon Fjaðrárgljúfur and the Glacier Lagoon.

I have been waiting to get asked to leave a review for this property because I am so excited to sing their praises. The staff was great. The food was AMAZING! I would recommend anyone visiting the area to stay here, to a point where I would say you have not experienced what Iceland has to offer if you miss it. Special shout-out to Joel and Adam, who both were excellent hosts to us. I work in the hotel industry and wish I had employees like these.

Hotel's Favorite
This hotel is a very nice one, I would say is a fair 4 stars hotel not a 3 stars one. We were very warm welcoming as we were having our anniversary. The hotel is nicely decorated and all the lobby space is a pleasant relaxing area. The room was spotless, with double bed, not twin as most hotel here have in Iceland. The breakfast was the best we had in all our journey in Iceland. First of all they had hot dishes- that is a big plus for us, as we are used to them in the morning. I have to mention an extraordinary home made tuna cream - actually this was my favorite in Iceland. There were also various cereal, jams and cold cuts. We had only one dinner here but it was a very good one. The restaurant looks nice, the staff is helpful and polite. They have a good wine list, the best known wines from all over the world. We had a very good pouilly fumee. I had risotto with lobster and salted fish - the combination was perfectly delicious, the risotto was creamy and tasty and the lobster was so fresh and sweet. My husband had long cooked lamb-shake with chickpeas and it was very good. The only down was the tomato soup, but you have plenty of other courses to choose from.

The hotel looks modern and nice when you check-in, lobby and bar. However when you open the door to your room the rooms look old and tired. Shower barely worked. There are not many hotels here, stay somewhere else if you can find something better.

Dear Maggie034, Thank you for taking time and sharing your opinion on TripAdvisor! We have noted your feedback on the room you were staying in, in fact, we have fully renovated half of the rooms this year, and the other half will be renovated later in the year. We hope to have an opportunity to welcome you after that should you visit South Iceland again. Warmest Regards,

First of all, there is no free breakfast. The room was small with narrow single beds. The bathroom was tiny and it felt as if I showered in a cupboard. There weren't any blackout curtains or roller screens fitted. When the thin curtains were drawn, there was a wide gap allowing light to leak in. The common lounge area was an internal room that felt like a cave. There was no fridge for guests to store things. This is the only hotel/hostel we have stayed in that didn't have one.

Dear Adventurers049, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us on TripAdvisor! We are very sorry to hear that our premises were not up to your expectations, although our rooms are bigger than in average across Iceland. Thank you for adding a note about curtains, we will fix that asap. We appreciate your comments, and hope that you have enjoyed your trip to the South of Iceland! Best Regards,
