We (4 adults and two boys, 4 and 6 years) stayed at the wonderful Hotel Klauster for two nights last week.
The location right in the middle between Vik and Skaftafell makes the hotel a perfect base for days of excursions in the area.
The staff is very friendly and service minded and the rooms and bathrooms are spacious and very clean. Shampoo and soap is top of the line products. The beds provide for a good sleep.
The restaurant is very good with emphasis on local products, the artic char is fantastic. The restaurant provided gluten free pasta on request. Wine list is well chosen and there is a good kids menu. The breakfast buffet (including smoked salmon) is great. All prices are reasonable.
Remember to bring your swimsuits since the hotel offers complimentary access to the local swimming pool. The room next to the lounge is very good for board games.
All in all, a wonderful hotel with very good value for money. We enjoyed our stay very much and look forward to return.

Absolutely a most pleasant surprise. Rooms well maintained, and the staff is truly part of the whole Icelandic welcoming experience. The room was spacious and the bedding very comfortable. The pride in the facilities was evidenced in every corner of the hotel. Folks always puttering around cleaning, straightening pillows in the lounge and common areas asking customers if they needed anything. Just attentive and professional while being very personable. Apparently some time ago the town itself invested in the hotel and the pride is still carried on by the present staff. The meals were outstanding! Nothing like fresh Artic Char and if you've never had Icelandic Lamb you'll be pleasantly surprised. Breakfast was outstanding as well.

This hotel didn't look special from the outside, but it was modern and comfortable inside. The reception was efficient and those behind the counter were pleasant and helpful. The rooms were spacious for us spending only one night. Good size bathroom with shower. We were a little disappointed with the evening meal as some of the items were no longer available (vegetarian/vegan) and the other dishes were mediocre.
Breakfast had a good selection, including waffles you made yourself (batter provided) hot off the iron with a choice of dressings. Yum - maple syrup!
The reception's weather screen forcast the possibility of Aurora Borealis the night we were there (between 9pm and midnight). The reception offered to wake us if it happened once we were sleeping. It didn't occur until the next day when we were back in Vik.
A good hotel that I can recomment.

We stayed for two nights in December 2019. The hotel was decorated for Christmas, which was lovely, and the public areas have wonderful touches like comfortable chairs and woolen rugs and blankets.
Our room was on the smaller side, but perfectly fine for two nights. The bed was comfortable and the room had good climate control meaning we could keep nice and warm. The bathroom had a good shower and underfloor heating. Breakfast in the restaurant was excellent with lots of variety. We had dinner in the restaurant one night, which was delicious. Every staff member was friendly and helpful, spoke perfect English, and was happy to give us help and advice.

I stayed here twice this summer for a total of 7 days. The rooms are smart and comfortable. Equally important, the staff is well-trained. It shows in the service which is warm and polite. Together with the summer offer due to the coronavirus situation, this was a superb deal.

Breakfast is included and seemed more than adequate (I only have coffee in the mornings). The dinner is overpriced but in Kirkjubæjarklaustur there are not many choices for a good evening meal in a cosy setting.

In summary, I would have no hesitation staying here again.

Visited Hótel Klaustur for a one night stay as part of a self-drive circuit tour of Iceland, on my honeymoon. The hotel itself made efforts to appear grand, was very clean and well presented. The room itself was of a reasonable size and the bed was comfortable. There was a kettle, but very depleted quantities of anything you could make with it! The shower was sufficient, with quite low water pressure but of a good temperature. We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant, having the wolffish and chips, which was very good and served quickly. The pudding was less enjoyable – a so called ‘French chocolate cake’, that was actually a chocolate brownie drizzled in a bitter berry dew and lacking any sweetness. The biggest problem with our stay at Hótel Klaustur was the staff. Perhaps because we arrived in hiking regalia, or perhaps for some other reason, we were given the distinct impression that our presence in the hotel was something of an unpleasant burden for the staff. The hotel is well situated for the Skaftafell National Park, to which we travelled afterwards. The village itself has little else to offer, beyond the Systrafoss waterfall, the path to which is not as well marked as other waterfalls in the country, and is slippery underfoot. Overall, I would recommend the Hótel Klaustur, but only as a stop gap, and certainly not if you intend to arrive after a day of arduous hiking, as you will likely be treated as an inconvenience.

This is a great hotel in the small town on Kirkjubaejarklaustur, which is in a great location for visiting southern Iceland.
Staff were very helpful with the northern lights, giving advice on where to watch and checking the forecast.

Has a cosy little bar and restaurant with a nice breakfast. For dinner there aren't many places to eat and this place has a small and relatively expensive menu so I'd suggest going to the restaurant down the road.

The room was pleasant but quite simple with fairly basic furnishings. Quite acceptable but that's why I give 4 stars not 5.

I have sooooo many allergies and their kitchen went above and beyond in making me a meal catered to my needs. The bar is so good! Best Moscow Mule I’ve had in a while. But, to top it all off the heated floors in the bathroom left me swooning!

Stayed one night with wife and kids as we vacationed in Iceland for Spring Break. This was the only one of the four hotels we stayed in that had connecting rooms available which was very nice for a family with kids.

What stood out most to us and made this worthy of a 5 star review was their customer service. We arrived around 8:00 PM and the front desk clerk was tremendous. My son had ripped his snow pants on his crampon while hiking on the glacier earlier in the day and the gentleman at the front desk provided us with some black duck tape to repair them. I had a work conference call and he set me up with some space in a private area so I didn’t have to do it in my room with my kids. Finally the next morning, we showed up to breakfast around 9:50, unaware that breakfast was supposed to end at 9:30. The workers, allowed us to take as much as we wanted from the buffet before cleaning up.

The hotel is under renovation and I look forward to visiting again when it’s completed. Also, they were the only hotel we stayed in that offered Northern Lights wake up calls if the Northern Lights became visible at night.

I stayed here two nights. i was looking for a fairly centrally located place on the East side of Iceland to use as a base, and this place was available. It looks very corporate, kind of sterile, but the decor was nice and it was very, very clean. The staff was very friendly, and helpful. The breakfast both mornings was good.

The problem I had with this place was the noise, and that didn't become apparent till the second night. The first night was quiet, which was a welcome reprieve from the other places I had been staying. I didn't realize this was the anomaly. Apparently there was nobody on my hall, or next to me, or above me the first night. All that changed on the second night.

On the second night, I heard a lot of scraping of chairs from above me (this place, like everywhere else i stayed in Iceland, doesn't believe in carpet on the floors). Worse, though was the nose on my floor. The walls were paper thin. I could hear the couple through the wall which my bed was on. I don't think they were talking loud, they were just talking, in either Dutch or German (I don't speak either, but that is how well I could hear them talking). The other problem was the slamming of the doors. The hinges they have on the doors do not slow them down appreciably, so every time someone on the hall went in or out of their room, it would slam, loudly. This went on well past midnight, and started up again around 5:30 in the morning. Needless to say, sleep was not an option.

I think if the hotel made improvements or adjustments to the hinges, this would be a big help in making it quieter and more comfortable. Unfortunately, that will not improve the situation with the walls.

I don't think I would stay here again, which is a shame, as the staff really was that terrific.
