The popular tourist destinations in south Iceland are spectacular, but if you've seen them or your not interested in crowds, try this place. My wife and I just returned from a long weekend stay in this small resort in the lowlands on the edge of the highlands. We signed up for a tour package that took our small group to fantastic local sites. A glacier ice cave, two mountain hikes (medium difficulty) with spectacular views of glaciers and ocean, local sheep and wool farm, secret waterfall, secluded black beach (with volcanic dust and sand storm that I found thrilling), the "Yoda" cave. Proprietor/photographer/guide Haukur and guide Hinrik spent the days with us in two highland jeeps filled with information, scenery and laughs. Proprietor/chef Hadda supplied all of the delicious meals of local foods in their country kitchen that would rival any in the south of France. The Guesthouse common/dining area is warm and cozy and the simple rooms are charming and comfortable. One night of bonfire and singing, two nights of northern lights, three days of unique experience.…
Highly recommend this guest house cozy atmosphere and awesome food. Beautiful nature all around and short drive up in to the highlands. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We stayed two nights and took short day trips. We will definitely go there again.
Really nice cozy guesthouse with good atomsphere. The food was excellent and staff super friendly. The environment offers endless possibilities exploring beautiful nature and remote areas. We had an amazing tour exploring astonishing ice cave.
Arriving after dark, we turned off Highway 1 onto the 209 and after 15minutes of driving through a dark, snowy landscape - the road indistinguishable from the surroundings except for the reflective poles - started to wonder where on earth we were heading. The sense of remoteness was extreme, even though we weren't touching on F-Roads or actually getting that far off the beaten track. Over a narrow bridge, this community-centre-turned-guesthouse was an absolute delight to find with a warm welcome and (in the morning) stunning views across the plains to the sea. With a homey dining space and cozy rooms it was an excellent base for our day trip to Jokulsarlon (the furthest east we went) and the evening meal with other guests was superb.
Æðislega kósý og skemmtilegt starfsfólk! /// Amazing staff and super cozy. We stayed in one of the cottages and the view on our left was amazing, though the view all around is great. It’s very homely and gives you the option to socialise with other guests, should you choose to. Definitely recommend!
