This hotel was a highlight during our stay in Iceland. Clean, homey, and welcoming with a true Icelandic vibe. We wish we stayed more than 1 night! Only recommendation is to bring an eye mask since light does shine in room. Food was delicious too!
We had one of the rooms overlooking a valley. Stunning view. Just amazing. Just be aware some rooms overlook an inner courtyard so you will see parked cars Room was comfortable and big. There are no blackout curtains and two small windows have no curtains at all so the bedroom is quite bright at night (it doesn’t get dark at all in June) so better bring your own eye mask. Breakfast is the biggest disappointment. Stale old bread. Only hard boiled eggs, no fried or scrambled. Dry cheese. Dry cucumbers. Wafer thin tasteless tomatoes. All quite basic, tasteless and definitely should be improved.
We, my wife Karin and I, made a last minute reservation to stay at Hrifunes Guesthouse. We arrived around 7-8pm and i have to say it was the highlight of our trip in Iceland. We were greeted by a friendly icelandic sheepdog and as we stepped into the main building (recieption) the atmosphere blew us away. Guests were sitting at long table, having dinner and the smell of food was just amazing. The whole scene was like mom had made dinner, all the family was already at the table waiting and we were late without any excuse. Immidiately, I felt guilty for packing myself full at fish & chips joint at Wik earlier. Hadda Björk invited us to sit at the table and served us food. The food looked simple homemade food, but it tasted incredible. I knew the moment I smelled the food that I will hate myself for having that fish & chips before, but also realized that i would never forgive myself if i would skip that dinner. I’m glad I didn’t. Maybe it was just a lucky unique moment that we experienced at Hrifunes, but one must agree that Hadda Björk and Haukur have greated a warm and couszy place for travellers and we are most grateful to find this hidden gem. And sad there were no available rooms for the coming nights to prolong the stay.…
We enjoyed our stay here so much and wished we would have booked for a longer stay! The rooms were well appointed and beautiful and the dinner and breakfast were amazing! We had the best time celebrating this beautiful place with the other guests and enjoying the delicious dinner and drinks. We had to leave early and the staff met us in the morning with coffee and breakfast sandwiches on the most delicious homemade bread. What an experience! Close to many beautiful attractions with wonderful accommodations and staff this is a must!!
The expensive rates did not match the quality of neither the room nor the dinner we ate there. The luxury apt had a sewage smell in the bathroom. The kitchen did not have a kettle to make tea. The bedrooms were very small with not enough space to put your suitcase inside. Concerning the dinner , the goose we ate was almost served raw and cold. There was not enough green salad too. The rest of the side dishes were really not what I was expecting having heard great things about the food. The soup and home made bread were tasty though. I would definitely not stay here again as it was really way overpriced for what our family of 5 got from the overall experience.
My husband and I stayed two nights in a room at Hrifunes guesthouse. The road is gravel for a few miles upon arrival so we took our time to avoid any flying stones. It was definitely worth the rocky terrain to get there! Our room was off the main dining area and we arrived during a lively communal dinner. It smelled delicious and we were disappointed we did not have a chance to dine here due to our busy schedule. Our room had a spectacular view -was clean and comfortable for the two of us! The bathroom was right outside our room and we never had an issue with sharing as I believe there is only one other room in the main house where we stayed. Quiet hours are observed in the main house so we never had a noise issue. The decor was rustic, eclectic and charming and you cannot beat the view from the living/dining room. The owner showed us a free standing unit that was separate from the main house which was spectacular-the owners have a gift for decorating and making each room feel homey. Whether you are looking for a room for two or a place for a group I highly recommend the Hrifunes guesthouse.…
When i read all the comments and reviews and shen i pay for the room which was for me by far most expensive room in iceland i expected more. It is realy lovely room it is nice common space for breakfast but i didnt feel this extra value everybody talking about. i think it is my mistake that i didnt have dinner there, but maybe again it will not be that perfect as everybody says it is.
Hrífunes Guesthouse is nothing short of amazing. I stayed with a large group of people from 16-19 August. We stayed for 3 nights at Hrífunes and enjoyed trips into the highlands of Iceland on 2 modified super jeeps. The day trips are full day and give you the opportunity to see parts of iceland you cannot easily reach yourself and the bonus was the guidance of Haukur the owner and Jon Baldur. They know the area inside out so we got to see beautiful spots, secret waterfalls, sandy beaches, Langisjor lake and much more. On the last day we went to a natural hot tub which was refreshing. The Guesthouse itself is unique. The rooms are nice and modern, comfortable beds. The overall ambience and relaxed atmosphere is very good. The restaurant or center zone of the guesthouse is where guest assemble for buffet breakfast which was excellent and a good starting point for the day trips. In the morning Haukur went over the plans for the day and off we went for good adventure. It was nice to return in the late afternoon for the dinner buffet which was very good and varied. The food is prepared and cooked by the owner Hadda. Something for everyone taste, Icelandic lamb, fish and vegan options that were very tasty. Also sitting with a few other groups for dinner gave it a special touch. Overall very satisfied with the stay and experience. Great hospitality by the owners and staff and the friendly dog, Garpur. Highly recommended.…
This cosy little guesthouse captures well the authenticity of Icelandic countryside and hospitality. The rooms were clean, uncluttered and tastefully decorated. The view was beautiful. Great breakfast and a buffet at dinner that even I (with my cholesterol concerns) could be more than content with.
Yes the setting is bliss, and the home cooked meals (breakfast and dinner if you make reservations) are plentiful and tasty. But the room is Spartan and the sitting chair was broken. We found the owners nice but a bit offish. This is a nice place to stay no doubt but not as unique and special as the reviews led us to believe.
