We stayed here on our first visit to Iceland , we were travelling from the U.K. with our friends from Australia who had booked this hotel , so we had no idea about it . We arrived in the evening on a crisp Icy evening .
The rooms /houses are stunning , comfortable and warm with the most wonderful beds . Large panoramic window wall looking out onto a lake . Large tv and coffee machine . The bathrooms / shower room is luxurious , with Soley shampoos and body washes which are made in Iceland and are fully organic. The breakfast was gorgeous too with a selection of fruits cereals breads cheeses meats etc just wonderful we loved loved loved it

This is a new-ish hotel and won our hearts. Although in the photos the rooms look like little houses side by side, in practice, you feel complete privacy and have a lovely view. The room itself was one of the nicest in our three-week trip to Iceland, and even had a reading lamp over the bed, a feature missing in all too many hotel rooms with dim lighting. There was not much storage for clothes; this was really the only quibble I had. Comfortable bed, everything spotlessly clean. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and the dinner was delicious. The breakfast could improve a bit. The staff was lovely.
If we stay here again, which I would be happy to do, I will try to get a room right over the lake rather than higher up. But I'm sure all the rooms are nice.

Each room is a studio house that is separated but close to each other. You have to park your car up by the main area and take the slope/stairs down to your room. We had a queen and a twin bed family room. The individual rooms felt luxurious and spacious with lovely modern decorations. Rooms also included a fridge, microwave, kettle, and coffee machines. The floors are nicely heated and the bathroom also has a heated rack for your towels (lovely!) I also enjoyed that the porch led to a lakeside view.
We didn’t dine in the restaurant inside the hotel. There are few dining options in the area. We regret not dining with them during our one night stay. The check in was easy and the owners were polite. We had an issue with the TV and they came right over to remediate!
The breakfast was by far the best spread during our stay in Iceland. There was hot foods including scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and baked beans. Additionally, fresh soft bread loaves, deli meats, a variety of different cheeses, cereal, yogurt, pastries, and fresh fruit. Everything tasted great and we definitely ate too much haha.
Overall, it was a very comfortable stay. We regret not coming earlier to enjoy the full stay of the room. Would recommend if you are looking for an initiate stay.

This hotel is perfect for this area. The view out of the rooms are breathtaking and peaceful. The hotel feels brand new, and has been furnished with the highest quality items and BEDS!! Blackout curtains worked great, and their attention to detail is high.
I HIGHLY suggest you plan on eating here and letting them know that in advance. They have limited ability to adjust to last minute requests for dinner. They did for us and we only had to postpone our requested eating time 60 minutes.
The problem is....We like to try "local" non-hotel eating. Nothing against hotel food, but we like to try snd rub-elbows with the locals. So we had planned to visit another restaurant on the other side of town. We quickly realized when we went to google map it, and it told us like 45 minute drive that we had made a mistake. Their is a campground over there, and the one lane road towards the restaurants was JAMMED with Los Angeles style bumper to bumper. After a few minutes, we u-turned and begged to eat at the restaurant.
Other than that, everything here was just perfect.

The rooms are individual pods that on first look appear to be sheds with green roofs but inside are clean, modern, contemporary and stylish. Very comfortable all round. Dinner was bistro style and pretty basic with no dessert which was disappointing but the breakfast was good. Very trendy place with good vibes and presumably ecologically and environmentally sound.

Stayed here 2 nights and loved it. The views take your breath away as soon as you arrive on the property. There is not a single room with a bad view as they all face the lake. The room was comfortable with everything you'd need (including a coffee machine). The shower was great (water temperature and pressure are important in making or breaking your day!) as were the meals (breakfast and dinner) in the restaurant. I'd love to come back here again!

The Magma Hotel has been incredible! Great jumping off spot for two nights close to Kirkjubæjarklaustur for our farthest reaching eastern destinations (glacier, lagoon, diamond beach). It’s on a crater lake in the Eldrhraun (moss covered, be a good tourist, do not touch the moss!) lava fields (site of a catastrophic eruption that caused the French Revolution and decimated a quarter of Iceland’s population) next to a black sand glacial river. The bistro served an amazing European breakfast (read: meat, veg, cheese, not much sugar and no frosting or Froot Loops in sight) and exquisite dinner, both by lamplight as it’s dark for both meals in December! Daylight is only from 11 am-3 pm so we didn’t actually see the s every since we were driving to sightseeing spots in the dark, enjoying the spots in daylight and returning in the dark, but their sunny pix on website are beautiful. We’ll come back in summer too!

Nordic Visitor booked this hotel for us and it was one of my favorite stays. Beautifully decorated cabin overlooking a small pristine lake with loons and swans. It was such a tranquil place. We had dinner in The restaurant which was also excellent. The staff went out of their way to assist my friend by laundering her clothes after something in her suitcase broke.

This was the only hotel we stayed in during our two-week trip, because we had Airbnb homes for all other nights; however, in this area of Iceland, there aren't a ton of reasonably priced accommodations in the summer, so we booked Magma. It was wonderful, charming, and so comfortable! The rooms are all separated, and they have beautiful views from the large patio windows. There is parking right in front of your room. The bathrooms are high end as well. The breakfast in the main building was very good! We would definitely stay at this property again if on the south coast.

This was the most peaceful nights sleep we had in Iceland. I wish we would have stayed for 2 or 3 nights. Waking up and opening up the big patio door and walking out on the deck overviewing a small lake with lots of wildlife and greenery was absolutely the best.
The restaurant is a must for dinner. We had the Arctic char and the mushroom risotto with starter salads - all were exceptional.
This feels like a family run hotel with roughly 24 rooms so no large tour buses. All the staff were just great.
Try and get a room facing the lake rooms 4-12 are probably the best bu 1-3 are not bad. A super quiet hotel with your own little building/room. Large comfortable bed, room safe & refrigerator etc.
Consider staying more than 1 night beautiful area with nice hikes, or just chill out in your room watching the wildlife on the lake from you before or patio.
Bottom line is this is one of the rare hotels that I would travel to just for the hotel experience.
Road weary from the ring road but loving it

Hello Taniesha
I booked for September 2023 by Bookingcom, like I almost always do.
The prices there are normaly good, sometimes cheaper than on the hotel's website and often with better cancellation conditions. I have some discounts and often the reservation can be changed almost until the last minute.
And I already had a bad experience, with the Hotel New York, in New York, booked by Bookingcom, which charged me twice. I spent more than a year fighting the hotel and VISA, and only got my money back when I called Bookingcom. Within a week my money was returned.
(I do not receive any commission)
I've checked on website i booked with and they're sold out for those dates. Hotel katla by keahotels in Vik has 1 room available, breakfast included
I booked through an Iceland agency. Believe they are always fully booked because they cater to these agencies
Hi,
At this point Magma Hotel is fully booked during the summer 2019. If it changes the rooms will be available on booking pages and of course through our website.
Hi there
You could take the bus to Kirkjubæjarklaustur, the village closest to us, but you would have to walk from there (about 2 km one way). We recommend a car.
Best regards,
María
