This was our 4th hotel on our trip around the Ring Road. It is a lovely hotel located on a lake not far from Hengifoss waterfall. I requested a lakefront room and received one. It was a lovely, comfortable room with a view of the lake and a modern bathroom. The basement of the hotel has a hot tub and a very nice changing area with showers. They did not charge us an additional fee to use it as others have commented. We ate dinner and breakfast in their restaurant. Both meals were good, although the 2 different fish soups we ordered were identical. The front desk was very helpful with requests for drinks and where to see the Northern Lights. They gave great advice and we were able to see the Northern Lights that night, a bucket list for us. Of course the hotel had nothing to do that except that they suggested a good observation point.

We had a great stay at this fine old hotel, built in 1903. We booked well in advance and got a great room on the 4th floor with views of the snow-capped mountains. We used the elevator to carry the suitcases but otherwise used the stairs: the entrance, lobby and restaurant are all on the second floor. On arrival we got a warm welcome and recommendation to book a table for dinner. The restaurant was busy on a Sunday night accommodating both hotel guests and locals (We had happily already booked in advance and got the time we wanted-see separate review for the restaurant). We found the bed comfortable, shower strong and hot (albeit with a bit of a sulfur smell), and the room comfortable with bedside tables, a desk and chairs. Breakfast was included in the rate and served 7-10. A good selection at the buffet. The staff were friendly and funny. We enjoyed our whole stay, and wholeheartedly recommend this hotel, one of the best we have stayed in during our first week in Iceland.

This is a family-run hĂłtel. The owners are on site every single day and it shows in the upkeep of the property and the experience of the hĂłtel guests.

We stayed twice here in the months of September and October of 2020. Due to the pandemic the hĂłtel occupancy was extremely low which made for an even more pleasant experience.

The location is outstanding, with a view of Lögurinn (the lake) and with easy access to the nearby fjords. The tastefully appointed lobby makes for a relaxing ambience.

The rooms in the new wing are smart and comfortable, the thoughtful design of the bathroom a point of note. The provided amenities are a cut above what you normally expect in hĂłtels.

What distinguishes Lake HĂłtel EgilsstaĂ°ir, however, is the warm service. The entire staff, at reception and in the restaurant, is trained to value guests and make your stay worthwhile.

Without hesitation I recommend this hĂłtel highly.

Our original plan was to stay is nearby Seydisfjordur about 25 minutes away but even 8 months out, there were no rooms to be had, so we instead opted to stay in Egilsstadir at this hotel. It's in a nice building on a large property at the edge of town overlooking farms and a lake. The hotel is just a few minutes walk from the town center with access to grocery stores, shops, a bakery and a few restaurants. In the wintertime, you can rent cross country skis and use them to go around the lake. In the summer, the skis are there for decoration. The hotel has a spa you can use for an additional 2000Kr fee.

The rooms are functional and decent sized albeit lacking in any character. They had a flat screen tv, but no bar fridge. Every other place we stayed at on our trip went to some effort to make the rooms seem special, but not at this place. They had the necessary amenities but nothing further. On the plus side, the doors were solid and the windows good so the rooms were very quiet. On the negative side, this was the only hotel where the sulfur smell in the water was noticeable. Even with the windows open to let in cool air, we couldn't make it go away.

The restaurant was good, a little pricey but with a nice variety of options including both vegetarian and vegan choices. This was also the location for the included breakfast which was decent and had some hot options, but got quite busy though.

Surprisingly, of all the places we stayed at in Iceland, this was the most expensive per night, yet the rooms were the most average.

This was approximately day 6 of a 12 day Iceland ring road trip and one of eight hotels used. Sadly, we have to rank this one the lowest of the eight hotels booked by Nordic Visitor. We were largely very happy with all the other hotels. First the good: The restaurant was PHENOMENAL and the staff were all very nice and helpful. The bad: it just is a bit tired and needs an update. It advertised satellite TV but only about six local Icelandic channels tunable (the rest all returned as “scrambled” or “no signal.” I guess no news for a day isn’t awful but given we’d paid extra for “lux” rooms for the entire 12 days, I expected more from the room we had here. Probably would have given this two stars rather than three but the dinner was actually amazingly good and the staff were very pleasant and funny.

Construction outside our window started at 6:30 am , the bed feels like you’re sleeping on a bed of springs , the bathroom feels like a scene from a prison movie , the pillows shambolic . Considering I paid 550€ for this room , this is absolutely unacceptable, I would rather sleep in a tent . Oh breakfast? Just one big LOL! The chef must be on his summer vacay . The land around. The property is amazing ; try to stay out as long as possible if you’re stuck with this option , and they have great toilet soap and shampoo , steal them and get your moneys worth . I come to Egilsstaðir every couple of years , next time will definitely be sleeping in the car instead of.

Nice location, SPA and breakfast, however, our visit to this hotel was a big disappointment. The management „lost“ one of our room bookings and we had to stay in a single room with an additional bed. All „compensation“, which was offered by the owner was a free SPA entry. Mistakes can happen, but guest would expect a little bit of caring and that their needs are taken more serious, in particular in in house with such a price tag…

This mid range hotel has pleasant rooms which are clean and warm . The food in the restaurant is good but the service was much lacking . Check in was an indifferent affair, no welcome. Service in the restaurant was functional - an adult order for apple juice was served as an individual carton ( with straw) unopened and certainly not poured into a glass!

It’s a good base for sight seeing around this area, but could easily be better with a warmer welcome offered to visitors.

I didnt stay at the hotel
However the restaurant wasn’t that great
My salmon tartar didn’t have a quail egg on it as advertised instead they just put a lot of oil on it
My sushi roll that they had for a feature was basically all rice and was quite expensive for all rice and mayo
Perhaps the other dishes are better 🤷🏻‍♀️

Loved this hotel! After staying at a few in north the amenities of an on site spa and restaurant were much appreciated.

The room was a good size and had either recently been renovated or was very well up-kept. I appreciated the availability of a single room along with a corresponding price.

The hotel was walking distance to town where there were other restaurants as well as a decent sized Netto (grocery store). The lake views from both my room and the back yard were beautiful.

The only thing I would change would be an in room mini fridge )admittedly I didn’t ask for one so they may have some on site.)
