We booked this hotel for part of our honeymoon to be held in Iceland this September. In April our flights were cancelled due to COVID, and I reached out to them immediately to see if we could be granted a refund due to our trip being forcibly cancelled. They never answered the phone when I would call, and it took several attempts for them to respond to my emails. When I finally got through, we were denied a refund. Extremely upsetting since we already lost thousands of dollars due to the pandemic cancelling our wedding and honeymoon, both to be held in Iceland. If you would ever need to contact the hotel for any assistance for any reason prior to your stay, I do not recommend this property.

We booked 3 nights but extended for one more. Stayed in the new part and used the Spa, which is excellent. The restaurant was very good and a great value. We had dinner once in town, but the food was much better at the hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. I have stayed in two other hotels in Egilsstadir before, but Gistihusid Egilsstadir will be my only choice from now on.

This time we only had dinner for two. Very cosy restaurant in Lake Hotel Egilsstadir - Good service and the food 100%. After dinner we had a cup of coffee in the Lobby which is really the heart of this building and nice to spend some time ther after dinner.

This is a great hotel! We had drinks in the lobby overlooking the lake while it snowed lightly. Staff was friendly and very helpful. (Put your name on the list to be advised if the Northern Lights appear!) The room was very nice and roomy. We did not visit the spa. We had dinner at the restaurant on-site. Please make reservations. It got very crowded very quickly. I prefer my beef cooked a little more, but it seems everywhere in Iceland the beef is cooked medium. The lamb was cooked to perfection. The free breakfast was massive. SO MANY choices! Excellent food! The coffee was very good also.

The hotel/guest house itself is an excellent value. Our room was less than any of our other nights in Iceland. Additionally, our room had a nice view through a deciduous forest out over a lake. As a nice bonus, this was our only night in Iceland to offer an included free breakfast. After hearing that, we expected a minimal continental breakfast, but it was much more than that - our best breakfast of the trip.
