Staff were very friendly, and the common facilities [WC | Breakfast Buffet | Hot Tubs] were clean and readily accessible. Additional towels and bath robes available on request. Very attractive lounge with a balcony available at all times near the reception desk.
The cabins were very cozy and compact, with sink + stove | dining table | bed | couch all in one area, then narrow bathroom off to the side.
The hotel is in a prime location for Northern Lights viewing as well. I would recommend walking past the reception area and parking to the small gravel road leading down to the secluded house, and setting up there along the road. If preferring other locations for viewing, there are numerous parking spots on Route 93 as well, which are far enough from the town where light pollution isn't much of a concern.
Rooms are simple (2 *) but spacious enough, however bathroom is rather small with shower curtain between your legs, no guest amenities. Matresses are comfortable, as well as pillows. Blackout works well.
Breakfast was also simple but OK. However cleanliness should urgently be improved: Nesquik box, Sun Up glass as well as Hazelnut Paste Glas were all (at 7 AM !) still completly dirty and glass rims sticky and full of yesterdays stuff. Brrr...
The two staff ladies prefered to either chat at the Front Desk (instead of greeting the guests and to care for breakfast guests) or they slouched on the Sofas in the hall way Waschung their handies.
Room floor was also not cleaned and still full of (bread?) crumbs.
Also during breakfast, the gentleman that is one of the head staff, fed his baby ducks outside the windows of the breakfast area which was very cute.
We would defiantly book again.
It is located 2 km from the center of Egilsstadir, with proximity (by car) to supermarkets, gas stations and restaurants.
The only room for improvement I would mention is the bathroom; the walls had some stains and woodwork that looked like they were unfinished; It was clean, but in terms of decoration it was nothing like the room.
I would definitely stay at this place again.
In each cabin there was a small kitchen (stove with 2 burners, sink, refrigerator). The bathroom was a narrow room - we couldn't walk past each other. The water smells and tastes very much of sulfur (that's how it is in the area). We boiled it and then the sulfur taste was gone (no idea why). There was also a table at "normal" height and two chairs in the cabin, so we didn't have to sit on the bed when eating.
The cabins were nice and warm inside despite the cold outside temperatures.
For breakfast we had to go to the main building, where there are two hot tubs that everyone can use (we didn't try them). The breakfast room is rather small and cramped. The breakfast is great, you can even make fresh waffles.
Main building + some bungalows. Spacious room on the 1st floor without elevator.
Equipment: coffee maker, but no air conditioning, no safe, no balcony, no TV. Good wifi.
Dinner (very good) in a nice little dining room, served by a young Spanish waiter who speaks French. Aperitif: bread + butter. Starter: mushroom soup. Dish: cod + vegetables + p. earth. Dessert: chocolate mousse. Self-service coffee or tea.
Average self-catering breakfast: coffee in a thermos, no hot chocolate, good croissants, salty options not very varied.
