Laxá Restaurant opened during the Summer of 2014 along with the Hotel, since then our Chef has been creating a menu around Iceland and Mývatn region’s uniqueness, putting an emphasis on regional ingredients and carefully selecting high quality products. Our smoked Arctic Charr is from Skútustaðir just down the road, the fresh Arctic Charr is from Húsavík and our lamb and foal are from North Iceland and Eyjafjörður. Finally all our fresh vegetables are from nearby farm in Hveravellir, grown in geothermally heated greenhouses.

We found the Hotel Laxa to be a great place for our stay in the Lake Myvatn area. The reception staff were exceptionally friendly. They were from different parts of Europe and clearly enjoyed working at the Laxa. We enjoyed two superb dinners at the restaurant and breakfast was equally good. The room was very comfortable and we had wonderful views of the mountains. For bird-watchers, just a few kilometers away at the Laxa River, one can usually find a few families of Harlequin duck!

Room was small but ok for one night. That said it was a nice modern room. View was good. Breakfast was enjoyable - wife always happy when she can make her own waffles! Can’t drive up to room but not that far.

So we booked this place in jan. 2020 for a trip planned in May 2020. And then Covid happened, flights were cancelled and our trip was cancelled. And that is when the pain started, not with any other places but them. They did not want to reimburse us, we had to fight for even a voucher (many weeks of e-mails) and even then, the voucher they wanted to provide would only have been good for 6 months (which was ridiculous...). They were not nice to talk to, they did not want to accomodate or help us, they only thought of their money. They also only wanted the voucher to be 50% of what we paid... -_- They didn't care about the customer. Because we had booked on booking.com, we also had the added struggle of booking telling us one thing and Hotel Laxa telling us another. It was a nightmare. For that reason only, I would never EVER recommend that place and would actually advise anyone to stay away, especially since that was the more expensive hotel of our trip and they are giving us a credit for half the price... It took us a month of back and forth communication with them to get the little we got (and fought for hard). I am sad I will have to spend more money for them... I would prefer to go anywhere else at this point. Sadly, I cannot afford to loose 200 something euros and pay another hotel... Fast forward to today, we finally did our trip to Iceland and did stay there. The place was actually ok in person, comfortable, good breakfast and the staff and the reception was great. Unfortunately, the service we had received beforehand still means we cannot recommend this place... unless you are extremely sure nothing bad will happen to cancel your trip... Because their service after sale was horrible.

Modern, chic hotel. Very clean, great service. Rooms were modern and nice, had everything we needed, great views. The beds were hard as rock though, that's why we gave it a 4/5. Restaurant was great for dinner and breakfast, food excellent.

What a find! Hotel Laxa is perfectly located for exploring all the the Myvatn area has to offer. It is a modern hotel that is incredibly easy to find, given that it is located at the top of a small rise with nothing else around it. This secluded location makes for a relaxing setting. There is a generous car park with level access to reception, where the welcome is warm and friendly. The modern theme is continued throughout the interior, with a wide single staircase down to the majority of the bedrooms, and generous skylights allowing light into areas that would otherwise be dark and reliant on artificial illumination. Our double/twin room was well appointed and of a comfortable size, with a window bench to admire the views of the scenery. During busier times, you may be unfortunate to get a view of the car park. The bathroom was well equipped with a good double-header shower ("normal" head and rain shower head). We were pre-booked for a two course dinner on both our nights and we had a choice of starter and main, main and dessert, or two starters and a dessert. The menu was small but the quality of the food was fantastic. My wife had the prawn tacos to start on both evenings - definitely a strong message there. The salmon and beef tenderloin main courses were both very good, although I found the bernaise sauce with the beef a little on the heavy side. Breakfast is fairly standard for such establishments - a good mixture of continental and cooked options, with the added fun of two waffle makers. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and quick to resolve any issues (one of the lights in our room wasn't working. We reported it when we left for the day and it was fixed by the time we got back in the afternoon). They even offer the option of a wake-up call if the Aurora Borealis appear. Unfortunately it was too cloudy so we didn't have need to call on this service, but it is a lovely touch. A great hotel and one that is definitely on my list of places to return to.

We stayed for 2 nights booked a package with dinner included. Hotel warm, comfortable beds, great little bathroom with super powerful shower. The hairdryer was one of the best I have ever encountered - a nice touch much appreciated! Bar / lounge areas well appointed with comfy sofa's and upright tables. Expansive views from every window and perfect location to have watched the Northern Lights - had it not been overcast and cloudy when we visited! Breakfast buffet, standard for similar hotels in Iceland, hot, cold buffet style with cereals and a waffle maker, make your own waffles - Yummy!! Staff from check in, through to the team in the restaurant were incredibly helpful and very welcoming. Appreciative of the area they lived in and happy to recommend areas to visit both locally and further afield. Plenty to do in the local area and we would certainly stay here again. Thank you to all the Team at Hotel Laxa!

First of all, the location is great. The room was a bit small, but quiet, cosy, clean and the bed was really comfortable. There was a spacious shower in the bathroom and they provided also a hairdryer. The staff was really friendly and helpful, they spoke severeal languages. The breakfest selection was quite wide, eventhough there weren´t many hotel guests at that time. Overal, great experience, I would love to visit this place again.

The Hotel was a warm and friendly find in the ice cold winter. The staff was warm and inviting on entry, the room was clean and warm with amazing views of the lake and volcano cones covered in snow. The hotel restaurant had wonderful choices for both the meat eater and the vegetarian alike. The mushroom risotto was amazing as was the pink trout. A hot breakfast got us going with classic continental choices and local favorites. The staff also went out of their way to provide us with tours / activities of the local area and pointing out other highlights to see on the way to the capital. Would stay here again.

Weekend trip. Everything very clean and friendly staff, and the food was excellent. We had a five course meal on Saturday night and the food was superb. Also the breakfast had everything; eggs and bacon, homemade bread, pancakes and croissants and many different types of coffee and tea.

I stayed here specifically to explore the area and to see the northern lights. It was freezing rain the whole day so no northern lights to be seen. There is actually quite a bit to explore in the area so in retrospect I would have stayed two nights instead of one. Akureyri was really a waste of time so I would suggest staying in Siglufjörður which looked like a postcard or coming straight to Mývatn. The hotel looks nordic trendy and the large window was probably designed with northern lights viewing in mind. The television actually had channels. The single hotel were it did. A buffet breakfast is included in the stay. It was a decent breakfast in Iceland standards with fruits and vegetables, make your own waffle, and three hot food items of sort of scrambled eggs, bacon and baked beans. I was very leery of the buffet given covid so I tried not to touch too much stuff but the waffle iron handle, I suppose I had limited options. I think it was the most comfortable bed I've had in my trip around Iceland but really none of the beds were bad to begin with.
