My husband and I booked a tour through Visit Meteora which included a one night stay at Hotel Kastraki. The building is charming with ornate wood work, friendly staff, and jaw dropping views. The complimentary breakfast felt like a feast. Our room was very clean with all of the normal amenities you'd want as well as some thoughtful touches like slippers and candies. The location is great; there is a taverna across the street, small shop, and at the base of the Meteoras. If we weren’t on a tour leaving the next day, we’d happily stay at the Hotel Kastraki for multiple days.

We spent one night here in order to visit Meteora. The bed was comfortable and the room dark with the shutters closed. So dark, in fact, we nearly overslept and almost missed the complimentary breakfast. We thought the decor was lovely and very old-world.

Overall experience was OK but if I ever visit Meteora again I would not stay here. My advice is go somewhere else. Although there are some positives, the fact that I could not sleep comfortably makes me write this review to warn you. The positive: 1. parking is available. 2. Efi, the lady that work at night in reception speaks good English and clearly explained with a map the options to visit in the area. 3. Clean and large new towels in the bathroom. 4. Small fridge inside the closet. 5. Some reviews here say bad things about the breakfast. I think the breakfast was really good with several options. The BIG NEGATIVES: 1. Although the room has a aircon with controls, IT DOES NOT REALLY COOL UNLESS RECEPTION DO SOMETHING IN THE BEHIND SCENE. We turned on the AC, you hear the noise but the air is not really “AC cool”. I complained a couple of times and nothing was done. It was when I got upset about it, when receptionist finally turned on something on their side to make the air cool. TO MAKE THINGS WORSE, they turn off the aircon after 45 minutes and we started to sweat again. In other words, you have to put off with a noise device all night to discover in the middle of the night that they switched off the AC functionality. At check out I gave them the feedback and they told me they are planning to update the aircon system in the next couple of years. 2. The room is very hot without the AC!!!! 3. You can’t sleep with the window open because of mosquitoes. 4. The sheets, although clean, are not soft. 5. The wifi in our room was very weak.

Overnight family stay at the Hotel Kastraki after taking the sunset tour to Meteora. From the outside the hotel looks quite nice, also offering convenient free parking on the premises. The grounds, the hotel area and rooms are quite clean, but are quite dated and seem to belong to another era in history, a kind of Greek Fawlty Towers. Mini bar was empty. All room amenities are equally dated and very very basic. Bathroom is small and the sit down bath / shower unit one of the smallest and mouldiest that I have ever seen. Caution must be taken when entering the bath especially if you have to take off eyeglasses before you do so. Breakfast was breakfast, boring and the additional charge for a cup of cappuccino coffee, exorbitant in my opinion. I would suppose that this hotel is a satiactory solution for accommodation whilst coming to Meteora for a day, but not longer.

If you are planning to visit the monasteries at Meteora you won't find a better location than this. The Kastraki is a 10-15 minute drive to all six of the monasteries open to the public and some of the rooms offer panoramic views of the massive rock formations. We were in room 35 and had a magnificent view from our balcony. The staff is very imformative and the breakfast is delicious. This is not a luxury hotel, the bathroom was small and there is no restaurant beyond breakfast. That said, it is very comfortable and clean and we would certainly stay at the Kastraki again if we return to visit Meteora.
