I stayed here for 3 weeks whilst on business. Idar Oberstein is a small town so don't expect any international hotels however checking into the City Hotel made a really nice change from those often over priced, sterile hotels. Don't me misled by the initial impression from the outside because once inside (and climbed the 3 flights of steps if... More

Nice enough, unfortunately I was unable to take part of their breakfast. Was on the third floor, no elevator for those who may need one. Was able to look out the windows and see the church at night. Decent WiFi, was able to watch shows on my tablet. Close to a nice schnitzel and pizza shop. Also next to a... More

The hotel is located near the train station, on easy walking distance from the city Centre (market square, Felsenkirche). We had a spacious room, in the 'tower' on the street side. Very nice bathroom, modern interior. Friendly staff. Good value! We parked the motorcycles in front of the hotel.

We enjoyed our stay. The staff and hotel are welcoming. The breakfast felt like home it was cosy and had a nice selection. Our room was spacious and clean. The host gave us great dinner advice and parking was close. Within walking distance of the old historic downtown.

Don't expect anything fancy, but you will definitely get your money's worth. What this old hotel lacks in modern décor and amenities is made up for by Peter, the owner. He met me at the door after hours and made sure everything was OK - including that I had found a suitable parking place. The room was large and clean.... More

Weekend in Idar-Oberstein, one night in this Hotel. It is an pretty old hotel, needs refurbishing but it was very clean. The room was big enough, the bathroom with a shower and a little beauty kit (not much). We had a very good night sleep, beds were comfortable. The breakfast was pretty ok, one could even choose to have warm... More

We wanted to see Idar-Oberstein at least once. They have several attractions and a deep history in mining agar and other stones. We chose the City Hotel because of the reviews and the fair price. We arrived and we were greeted by the owner. He informed us right away about the mine tour and the stone grinding museum. We were... More

Wonderful hotel, quite location, close to railway station. The hotel is over 100 years old but had be refurbished in the 70s. Check in should be after 4 pm as they do not a 24 hour reception. Large spacious warm room, with ample power points to charge all the devices. Owner is also the chef and a breakfast is available... More

“It's a small hotel, any room would likely be wonderful. My first floor room overlooking the street had a small sitting area that would have been a great advantage if I'd had more time. It was quiet despite being next to the street and the hotel's entrance. The pictures on the web site don't do this hotel justice.”
