This hotel has a good service-level. The Rooms are different: Very comfortabel, modern and with a bit exquisite atmospher and other room just functional, clean and good. It depends on what you book. Take the "Full-Pension"-offering. The Dinner is really exquisite in comparison to the price.
Stayed two nights on a wine tasting trip in early May 2018. Rooms are very nice and spacious; loved the modern (yet functional) layout and architecture. The Brunnenhaus is well buit - no noise at all at night so you get a good night sleep after a few wine tastings. The only minor thing: I wish they would have proper shower gel and shampoo instead of those small plastic bag ones that are very hard to open. Breakfast: great choice both in terms of quality and quantity. Restaurant: had a drink one evening in their lower terrace next to the river: ok, though with very limited selection but still of good quality. The second evening, had a night cup on their restaurant terrace: great wine list and - as always - very friendly and efficient service.
The room we had was number 209, a double with a small window from which you could see the castle ruin and the church, almost across the road. Roomsize is reasonable with17m2 + 3m2 bathroom. Furniture bland, but with safe and wifi. mattress is good and floor with pasted synthetic felt-like thin carpet. The church clocks rings from 08:00 till 20:00, so it allows good sleeping. But at 08:00 they go banging a full melody. Bus tours with senior citizens attend this hotel. Dinner in the restaurant is of good quality and the wine is only double the shop price. Ample breakfast in the busy garden restaurant. When we asked for the option of luggage transfer, they were unsure and expensive.
Everything was great. To make this a perfect hotel the addition of tea and coffee making facilitates in the rooms would do it. Hotel is clean, comfortable and food is good. Staff very helpful and friendly. Location is good for touring
Have stayed here a few times before and once again the accommodation was the usual high standard. Service was slow in the restaurant during the evening however this was more than made up for by the service we received when eating outside in the beer garden even though we were a table of 9. We were disappointed not to receive a jar of jam when we checked out as it always serves as a reminder of a great place. Maybe next time we'll get 2........
We, for some reason had the disabled room! Very spacious, large comfortable bed and huge bathroom. Staff were excellent and most spoke good English. Right next to the river and plenty of eating places in the town, although after the first night's dinner we ate in the hotel each night. Lovely verandas for outside eating and drinking. Excellent menu, plus good veggies choice, and they would cook other German specialities (schnitzel) if wanted! Many very good local Mayschoss/Altenahr wines, red and white. Breakfast substantial! Wine tasting places close to the hotel. Good walks through the woods, some steep climbs but worth it for the views. Would definitely go again.
Stayed in the 2nd week of July. Located in a nice historical town with many activities to offer. Warmly welcomed at the reception and accommodated in a nice large double room fitted with a nice bathroom. Rooms are accessible by lift. Plenty of free car park as well free and strong WiFi signal all over the hotel. Had a set menu for dinner at the restaurant. Food served is on a gourmet level with fine service. Upon check out, a small home made jam jar was handed over as a souvenir. Nice touch. Highly recommended to stay for holidays and even for a stop over.
We know the area quite well and stayed here last in 2003, it was good then it is better now. The neighbouring hotel has now been totally redeveloped to provide 12 truly excellent, modern and comfortable large rooms with seating area, walk in shower with separate WC, and sizable dressing area. A small balcony overlooks the Ahr river. The restaurant provides above average food in a lovely atmosphere, we were made most welcome. The hotel does not need to advertise was extremely busy so it is essential to book, even for a table at dinner.
Having experienced the great food I made a promise to return to Ruhland for a stay. It did not disappoint. The spring building works had been completed and all was great.Staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The food was fantastic, Our room was quiet and very clean. The parking was plentiful, It is a geat place to stay and access the wonderful Aar valley.
Whenever I am in Europe I try to find family owned and operated hotels, as they usually provide excellent service besides the value for the money. Hotel Ruland in Altenahr is no exception to that rule. As we arrived late I called ahead and asked if we would get dinner in the restaurant even after 8:30pm, which was not an issue at all. The staff at the front desk was very friendly. When we left we even got a personal hand shake from the owner, thanking us for staying at the hotel! I had a room in the older part of the hotel, which is still very nice. The rooms are very clean and spacious, although I was missing the personal touch that would make it more charming. Breakfast is served buffet style with a good selection.
