Our final stay in France and it was the 'icing on the cake'. A stunning chateau sitting in a beautiful tranquil estate. We were slightly overawed at its beauty. The owners were charming and quietly welcoming. We stayed in to dine that evening with another english couple and had a fantastic dinner cooked by Marie Anne. We really enjoyed the... More

We found the chateau on the Internet as we have a dog and wanted to break up our journey travelling further South, made very welcome, lovely pre dinner drinks with the hostess and other guests on the terrace and a fabulous meal. Everything we wanted a great find.

Found this by accident on an internet search. We were instantly charmed! What a lovely old chateau in a picturesque setting. We had a four poster bed in the eaves and the most fabulous candlelit dinner served and prepared by Marie Christine. This chateau has been in her husband's family for 19 generations. We had an aperitif served outside on... More

We stayed in Monhoudou on the way home from our two week summer break in the south. We had a lovely couple of hours exploring including some time in the hot tub. We put our two children to bed upstairs and had no worries about being downstairs for dinner as it is all self contained. The food was amazing and... More

This was our second stay for Classis Le Mans with a group of Austin Healey 3000 owners. The owners have, very sadly for them - and for us, decided to sell up. The place has been in the family for generation after generation and the staff are wonderful. Both times we have visied the waiter cum cleaner cum odd job... More

We stopped here, conveniently, on the way back from Cognac to Caen. It's a very impressive place to stay, lots of family history but it's clearly a burden to the current generation. We were the only guests and it therefore wasn't appropriate to take dinner there, which meant we had to drive 30 miles to Le Mans to eat. Breakfast... More

We stayed for 2 nights and could not fault this beautiful chateau with it's charming and gracious hosts. You really feel as if you are very welcome guests, not a bit like a hotel. There are several reception rooms including a cosy library, filled with interesting antiques and pictures showing the history of the Monhoudou family and you could not... More

I was introduced to this marvellous place by two friends making their return visit. The chateau was excellent, conversation with the hosts before and after the dinner was charming, and dinner first rate. We used the swimming pool, which is a good size and heated by a ground based heat pump. I intend to return.

Family trip on our way down to Ile De Re, we needed an over night stop near Le Mans. Found this place on trip advisor. A small Chateau located in a charming isolated position. We were greeted by the owners and shown to our room on the second floor. It had a four postered bed for us, a small bed... More

We went in a group of 16 and had a fabulous time! Nothing was too much trouble - an extra meal - bringing the TV down to the side lounge (unfortunately Wimbledon was not on French TV!). The food was better than expected, even after reading all the reviews! The rooms were fabulous (although we had the smallest - which... More
