Detailed Reviews
The setting here is splendid! I delighted in walking through the birch forest to the lookout at the back of the property.
Mina's home is charming and we enjoyed our stay. The scent of baking rhubarb bread greeted us on arrival but dinner wasn't being served as we had been led to believe by our agent. An excellent recommendation in Poorvo by Mina was a fine alternative. Our attractively decorated room was a nice size but lacked luggage racks, nightstands and dark curtains. The common lounge upstairs had easy chairs, a desk and a view of the forest. The upstairs bathroom was for our use only (in this case) but it is a somewhat awkward layout plus has little space for toiletries. Our host is shy but very kind and sweet. Her partner was busy working on the property and didn't engage except for a nod. Two British guests, a mother and daughter, were a pleasure to meet and are regular visitors. We can see why.

We had a wonderful time at Strandhagen. Mina is a warm and friendly host. The house is beautifully furnished and decorated. It is an inspiring atmospere with a variety of books. Strandhagen is located in nature.
A birch forest and the sea are in front of the backyard.
The breakfast offers a wide selection. There is also a tea and fruit station during day time and a cheese and cracker station at the evening. We can highly recommend Strandhagen.

Strandhagen is a little bit away from the Porvoo center, you might say middle of the forest which is part of the whole idea of staying here instead of some hotel. The rooms are in a small building, partly upstairs, partly downstairs, I think there are four of them. Some share the bathroom/toilet, which obviously might be important detail, so if important to have your own, mention it when booking.
The small houses surround a lovely courtyard, when a friendly small dog barks you welcome. Behind the house there’s a garden, where here and there tables and chairs, where you can sit down and listen to the wind and the silence. The hostess of Strandhagen is most friendly and helpful person. The rooms are nicely decorated as is the shared bathroom and breakfast room. Clearly the small details are here taken into account. We went hiking for a few hours, there are well marked trails very near and maps available. Even as a Finn I was surprised for the emptiness, no one on the trails, and only handfull of people along the whole few hours of hiking, and none of them in the woods. Pretty nice Bistro Pellinki for a dinner (book in advance), apparently the hostess will also provide dinner if needed. Evening tea a nice finess. Breakfast again beautifully served. Golf club not that far away if anyone cares.
All in all, very nice one day & night at Strandhagen, nature, tranquility, friendly service and relaxing atmosphere.

We visited this amazing B&B and we couldn't believe how great this place was. All small details in decoration, amazing breakfast and supper and hosts hospitality was perfect. There is only four rooms so it's also very quiet and peaceful place. We will definetly visit this place again. I would give 6/5 stars if it would be possible.

We had an incredible few days at the Strandhagen near Porvoo, not too far from Helsinki. We want to go back next summer. We want to send everybody we know to go to Strandhagen B&B. The forest, the birds, the flowers, the washing line, the feeling. And Mina's table.

I have just returned from my third holiday at Strandhagen. I can truly say I did not want to leave but I do want to share with you how very special it is. If like me you love nature; beautiful scenery with birch and spruce forests alongside meadows and reeded shore lines that edge the sea. If you love wildlife, wild flowers, butterflies and an abundance of birds. All this whilst staying in the most lovely home that is a charming, warm and comfortable oasis of calm and tranquility away from life’s stresses then Strandhagen is definitely for you. With a huge amount of love and care Mina and Marcus have created a wonderful place to stay with a very special atmosphere. Nothing is too much trouble, they delight and strive to make their guests feel at home and to have the most enjoyable stay that is possible. The attention to detail is fantastic from beautiful bed linen, candles, comfy chairs in which to relax or read with pretty angled lights to a huge collection of books to dip into from wildlife, history and novels to art and cooking. Out doors is as considered as in! Mown paths lead from the lawn around Strandhagen through and around the surrounding forest and up to the shoreline. There are numerous chairs and tables, some with sunshades, some in forest clearings all of them with gorgeous views they are perfect places to relax, draw or bird watch. Mina fills her bird feeders each day and the variety of birds that come to feed is quite marvellous. I saw white backed woodpeckers, a mother deer and her fawn wandered over one morning. Then there is the fantastic birdwatching tower which overlooks the sea and the forest. Accessed by a ladder, two chairs sit atop and the view is simply spectacular. Cranes stride through shallows and sea birds fly into view. I must mention breakfast! Mina creates a feast based on her guests preferences. She is a wonderful baker, her bread is absolutely delicious as is her home made muesli and jams, do take a look at my photographs! With Mina’s expert advice and guidance we have visited lots of beautiful and interesting places round and about such as the historic and picturesque towns of Porvoo and Loviisa and the fascinating Postimaki folk museum. Nearby is the spectacularly beautiful Pellinki peninsula which has an association with the writer Tove Jansson. We’ve been to very stylish art and design museums such as Gumbostrand and we’ve been up to Tuusula where the great composer Sibelius lived at one side of the lake, the master Finnish painter Pekanbaru Halonen at the other. Strandhagen has so much to offer, we have already booked our stay for 2019. We are already looking forward to our return.
