We have just arrived home from a very special holiday at Waidroka. From the moment we arrived to sadly leaving we had a fantastic stay. World class daily yoga with beautiful Alecia, Rob the surf guide really went out of his way to make sure my husband got some really great waves including a trip out to Frigates with the lovely dive team crew. Thanks Rob. The staff - Elizabeth. - very special lady, Etta, Sula, Eli and Mark - thanks for all the fresh coconuts & the best wishes for you and Bale on the arrival of your baby. The lovely older gardener gentleman whom I danced with at Kava nights 😉, the managers are so lovely & accomodating, thanks for the late checkout so Mike could surf Frigates, apologies if I don’t have all of your names. The accommodation was great, cleaned everyday, just lovely, loads of space. The food ~ Wow, the lovely chef really looked after all of us, my husband had his fifth birthday at Waidroka, the fabulous team, decorated a lovely space for us to have a private dinner & the food was the best, Vinaka. We have meet lifelong friends and loved our time doing so much: suping , snorkeling, kayaking, walking, swimming, chilling by the pool, Kava night of singing & dancing , the village vist - a highlight. Alecia you’re a true treasure of Waidroka and I really hope Waidroka promotes the Yoga as it’s definitely one of the best classes I’ve done, having had yoga on my home for the last few years. Needs for attention on the website. OK for all the people who don’t research before you go- apart from it being really weird thing to do, it’s NOT Waidrokas fault you didn’t do your research, it’s as advertised, no surprises at all! Yes it’s a long road trip to get there but it’s worth it, yes there’s no beach right at resort BUT there’s loads of beaches around and the snorkeling is easy to get to. So don’t complain just enjoy, it’s not for people who like loads of tourists, it’s for the cruisey , fun people who know a great gem when they see it. The wifi is at the main building only, which means you actually get to relax, instead of looking at your phone all day. Thank you Waidroka family, you’re in our hearts forever, we will be back. Jo & Mike S

I did try to write review before , trip advisor (technical issue, I suppose )were not allowing it. Overall experience was fine until checkout . Resort is nice , green and clean , staff friendly . Website advertises (shows)resort much nice than actually is . Accomodation needs refreshing , furniture remember time when the resort was built. My wife and I had one beer each on arrival and than wife had around 3 beers day before checkout and same on the day of checkout . We were given $400 Fiji to pay for less than two six packs . I just paid it , how can I dispute it when no receipts are given and all is on the room , any one can say my room and go . Dives were nice and dive guides professional . We traveled in September 2018

Bula Dariusz Thank you so much for taking the time to write your review, we all really appreciate it at Waidroka Bay Resort. We are really glad you liked our resort, staff and liked the diving and our professional dive guides. We also appreciate your comments regarding the accommodation needing refreshing, as in fact since your stay, over 1 year ago, we have by now fully rennovated, repainted and freshened up ALL OF OUR ROOMS. As to your issue at check-out, we are all perplexed and do not understand how your bill could be $ 400 FJD for the bar, having consumed 8 beers in total...? This is absolutley impossible, as 1 Fiji Bitter is $ 7 FJD and even if you would have ordered Fiji Premium beer or Vonay they only cost $ 9 FJD for 1 beer. There must have been another type of charge or consumption and it is a real shame you did not raise this at the time, as our resort prides itself for fair charges and always ensuring ANY ISSUE IS RESOLVED WHEN RAISED ON-SITE. We are happy to offer you a bar voucher for the difference of the charges on any additional future stay with us and as such you could also enjoy our newly rennovated rooms. We look forward to hosting you again at Waidroka Bay Resort. We loved hosting your dive group, who all seemed to love our resort and would love to see you all back. Thank you again for staying with us and for the great compliments and we sure hope to see you again and look forward to hosting you for any future stay at Waidroka Bay Resort. Thanks for making an effort posting a review - we highly appreciate it and learn from reviews how to continuously improve our guest experience, as we do take ALL of our guests’ comments extremely seriously. I felt immediately as a part of the family. The resort is a bit away from the road, but with lovely huts. GREAT food, very friendly staff and super nice managers, that fulfilled all individual requests far beyond my expectations. Top diving in small groups with fantastic guides. Thanks a lot! I DEFINITIVELY want to come back

I was here as a solo traveler in which I purchased the unlimited surfing package. I consider myself an intermediate surfer who uses a longboard to surf. I don’t have anything negative to say about the place; however, when I compare it to other surf resorts that I have been to in the past, I would give this place an average rating only because of the natural conditions that can get in the way of surfing. Things to consider if you are going to stay here. This place is basically suited for the advanced surfer. If you are an advanced surfer, you will be surfing some epic waves and that is a fact because you will be able to handle the waves at each reef break with no problem! They say it suits the beginner and intermediate surfer at one or 2 reef breaks; however, one must consider mother nature such as the tides, winds, weather, swell, and etc. If you are a beginner, your chances to surf go significantly down than if you are an intermediate surfer. For beginner surfers, I would just say forget about it and go somewhere else to learn surfing. For the intermediate surfer, I d say go for it and see if you have what it takes to surf the reef breaks in Fiji, but you probably be taking a beating out there. I brought my longboard to surf, which you can surf there using a longboard, but it can be a challenge at times because you can’t duck dive with a longboard. Duck diving is the key to surfing the reef breaks. The resort only allows surfers to go out 2 hours before and after high tide because of the low tide issue that they have. I stayed there for 5 days and we had only 3 days of surfing due to the weather conditions. As a surfer, I understand that surf trips can be a gamble due to mother nature issues. Along with me was a married couple who were very advanced surfers. We went to Frigates pass on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday’s swell was SICK as hell! When we got there, the swell was like a breathing dragon in the middle of the ocean spewing massive waves onto the reef. I paddled out there as an intermediate surfer and when I got to the line up of about 4 other people, I panicked because I felt the wrath of the dragon’s breath which was on fire due to the ever constant and moving ocean near the reef! I was completely out of my element that day. Tons of paddling has to happen just to be in the right spot otherwise, the dragon will eat you up and spit you out on the other side of the reef leaving you like when you were a child scared of the monster under the bed or closet ! I actually saw this happened to a female that paddled out with me. She stated she had not surfed in 2 years, but she still earned my respect because she stayed out longer than I did! Because I went the rest of the day feeling like that scared child in me, I was not going to go back to Frigates the next day even as I got encouraged to go back from the surf guide and the married couple. However, resort put on a Kava celebration which took place that evening with the Fijian locals and they invited me to have however much kava I wanted, which I did. There was also this long haired surfer dude who I will call Bhodi that lived next to the resort and had this small kite like plane that he uses to fly around to surf spots. I had a lengthy conversation with him at the bar and talked to him about my experience with Frigates earlier in the day. When I was telling him about my experience, he did not judge me, rather he completely inspired me to “pick up my balls and go back out there!” SO, the next day, I went back to confront the Frigates beast which was still breathing fire! The surf guide and the Australian couple said that they would be by my side so I can conquer the Frigate’s dragon while paddling out to get in the right spot. I geared up, threw my longboard in the water, and paddled out with them. My anxiety was a lot less, but still pumping. We got out to the line up and I just let go of all fear and just let the Frigates dragon breathe her breath on me. I stood my ground with the dragon, got comfy with the ever changing conditions and movements and practiced my breathing out there. The married couple and surf guide would direct me to paddle at different places as the Frigates dragon spewed fire at me again. And, within a half hour of getting into place, they spotted the perfect wave for me to surf. I turned my board around and committed myself to surf the dragon’s fire breath. As an intermediate surfer, I can officially say that I surfed Frigates pass!! I was only able to handle surfing one wave because it was still scary for me that day. The next day, we went to Serua which was a nice swell that morning and something that I could handle with my longboard and I had a fun session. For a lot of the times, I felt lonely because the resort is literally in the middle of nowhere miles from somewhere. I did feel out of place and awkward with the surf guide and married couple because at times, I was never included in their conversations because of my level of surfing ability. My board suffered damage from the airplane ride and the surf guide was very helpful in bandaging my board on the first day. However, as the week went on, I just felt a vibe from the surf guide that he really didn’t want anything to do with me because of my intermediate level of surfing. The Fijian staff were super friendly and I enjoyed learning about their culture and having conversations with them during Kava ceremony and dinner. The food was enjoyable and plentiful. The accommodations were fine. They do have limited supply of surfboards for rent, but they are basically suited for the advanced surfer which is why I am glad I brought my own board. I am satisfied that I stayed here as a solo surfer, but I would not be coming back to Fiji unless I become an advanced surfer. By coming here though, it gave me that extra confidence and boost to surf larger waves that I would normally not surf where I live in California. I'd say not bad for a 42 year old with previously 3 major back surgeries and 2 knee surgeries! When I got back home, I went surfing the next day and surfed a break I was always told to stay away from as an intermediate surfer because it was the best break around with larger sets-this is what the Fiji experience gave to me and I appreciate that!!

Bula Jeff Thank you so much for taking the time to write your review, we all really appreciate it ! Most importantly CONGRATULATIONS for "mastering the dragon's fire breath"...believe me that with a longboard and on Fiji's faster and more barreling reef breaks YOU HAVE DONE INCREDIBLY WELL and we are sure that it will benefit your surfing back on beach breaks with sandy bottom back home in California. Even though you don’t seem to feel like it – you should be seriously proud of the effort and sessions and waves you got at Waidroka. Thanks so much for your comments about our atmosphere, staff and food, which all of us seriously appreciate. Thanks also for hanging in there and trying to master the waves, as for any surfer Fiji can be intimidating (sometimes) and the dragon can show its teeth, but the only way to go about it is to keep trying and hanging in there until you make some waves and gain confidence, which is exactly what you did ! Our surf guide Rod is surprised by you getting the vibe of not being part of the conversation, especially as he was also so stoked for you to catch some waves and get some waves at Frigates, which many times is more fun for the surf guide when you succeed, than for the surfer, which was the case here (Rod was seriously stoked for you and thought you did great!). We all apologize for you feeling the way you did and feel bad for not supporting you more , as it was definitely not intended and we are all stoked for you getting the waves you did and for your attitude of not giving up ! Thank you again for staying with us and for the great compliments and we sure hope to see you again, whenever you feel ready for your next Fiji Surf Challenge and look forward to hosting you for any future stay at Waidroka Bay Resort. Thanks for making an effort posting a review - we highly appreciate it and learn from reviews how to continuously improve our guest experience, as we do take ALL of our guests’ comments extremely seriously.
