This place and the people there exceed all expectations for a tropical experience. My son is an avid surfer and we both love scuba diving. Daily surf trips with Sam the exceptional surf guide to perfect lefts and scuba diving with their dive master who personally had explored and charted the many fabulous coral reef dive sites were an experience of a lifetime. My family loved the included Yoga sessions with Yvonne set in the tropical forest and the kayaking and SUP on request. Brian and Donna have created a spectacular resort with just a handful of beautifully appointed rooms, great food prepared by Bruce, and wonderful service from the friendly staff including Mili,Veli, Junior, Roco, Weis, Semile, and everyone else. If your looking for a tropical vacation, go here.

I just spent 10 days at Matanivusi with my wife and 2 boys (aged 4 and 2) and I have to say it was not just a great family holiday but an absolute lifetime highlight. Its been 2 weeks since we left and I still get emotional thinking about it. I expected to have a great time (its Fiji!!!!) but what I didn't expect was to fall in love with the place and its people and to really learn a bit about Fijian culture and people beyond the surface of glossy pics and brochures etc. The staff looked after us like we were family. Their combination of genuine warmth and care, sense of fun, infectious happiness, BIG auras and high level of skills (they're all fantastic at what they do from the management, kitchen crew, groundskeepers and gardeners, housekeeping team, the water and boat crew etc)...... I can't praise them enough. When we left I was really sad!! We still miss them all. The team were wonderful with our kids. Like real uncles and aunties. It was nice feeling like everyone there had a caring eye on them. Families - bring your kids here. Don't worry about it. You will be taken care of. The resort itself is a real wonder. Its beautiful and needs to be seen to be believed. All the rooms are under neath the rainforest canopy but elevated above the ground by a series of amazingly beautiful boardwalks and timber decks. Its incredibly peaceful feeling living amidst the natural landscape there. They do an amazing job taking care of it. it feels loved and lived in and kind of brand new at the same time. The rooms were perfect. breezy and cool with everything you need and perfectly suited to the area. Really nice beds. Almost too good if you like to get up in the morning. The housekeepers do a perfect job and are great at sneaking in and out like angels while you're having a swim or breakfast or lunch. The food! Some of the best food I've ever eaten. particularly the fish and the vegetarian dishes. Its all fresh and delicious with a lot of local influence which is nice. Bruce and his team work really hard to put on a great feast at every meal. The love and care taken by Junior at all meal times to present the dining room immaculately was something else. I've never seen anyone take such pride in presentation and take such good care of diners. Junior is a real star actually. My kids were obsessed with him and we would have taken him back to Melbourne with us if they'd let us :-) The boat men and surf guides were great watermen and even better blokes. They knew where and when to go and the next laugh or joke was never far away. Had some of the best waves of my life. Couldn't believe how uncrowded the surf was given how good it gets. Surfers - GO. You'll get waves. My wife really enjoyed the daily yoga and the spa (massages etc). The yoga and spa facilities looked amazing too. (Surfers - be confident that your non-surfing partner will be well looked after here. This part of the resort is not an after thought, they take a lot of care with this program too.) Last thing - Visit the village and leave a decent donation for the school while you're at it. Most of the staff come from Vunaniu. Its humble and beautiful and the kids are a real treat. You will get an insight into Fiji life outside the resort here. l learnt a lot and the kids loved the school visit too. Anyway - I'm rabbiting on. If you've got this far through my review then do your self a favour and book to go here. You'll never be the same. The rest of this is just a personal thanks to the team. Junior Senior - thanks for driving us around so safely. and taking great care of us on our day trip. Junior Junior - my boys are still asking for you. Apparently my juices are not as good. The way my boys grew to love you will stay in our hearts. Please send me a cold fiji bitter. Simele / Seva - legends. both of you. thanks for all the waves and fun. WOW. Wise - thanks for teaching me and the boys so much about Fijian life, history and culture. Bruce / Eva / Rocco - your food and restaurant is exceptional. Can't wait for my next meal there. Milly / Seni / Dukes /Joeli / Villy / Cordy / Eva / Mitti / Emori and the rest of the crew - you were all amazing. We miss you and can't wait to see you all again soon. ok thats it.... i think... I might be forgetting someone.... oh yeh... i am forgetting someone... Sam the surf guide and caretaker manager. last and definitely least. Thanks Sam for ummmm... for ummmm... I'm sure i'll think of something you did at some point...... naaaaahhh jokes. Cheers for the good times Sam. Hope to see you in Vicco legend :-)

Mantanivusi Eco Resort blends in with the lush, rainforesty and jungle-like vegetation, close to the local village. This 14 day holiday is the most authentic experience I've had of Fiji, and at the same time offered many comforts and activities. Besides the natural beauty of the setting, the staff made this holiday very special and memorable for my husband, daughter and me. Our daughter surfed each day and got some great waves at Frigates with a very skilled and knowledgable Surf Guide, Nick. A big thank you Nick for that and the many laughs over the odd 'cocktail of the day'. Yoga Instructor, Chloe, tailored her classes to meet our various needs as we looked out and sometimes up to the grand old banyan tree. Thank you Chloe. We were taken to magical snorkelling spots to swim with turtles and other friendly and colourful sea life. Loved the kayaking in the long creek - if we were in Australia we'd have a croc checking us out for sure! The food was delicious - the best I've experienced in Fiji. Thank you Bruce, Iva and Onya for a varied and yum menu. Our gorgeous accommodation blended in with the tropical paradise and I loved lying on that verandah just gazing, in between reading a book. The staff was so welcoming and helpful. We miss you. Thank you Millie, Tony, Vinnie, Cody, Simellie, Seva, Wais, Charles, Junya, Dooks, Mitta, Mitti, Seni, Emori, Napoleon, Kevu, Mariah, and all those I played volleyball with :) We hope to be back to see you. Brian and Donna, what a wonderful contribution you're making in the Fijian community in an ecological and sustainable way. Thank you, Jennifer

From the moment we arrived at Matanivusi and handed welcome drinks with stainless steel straws we were impressed and knew we were in our element. We loved the whole vibe of the place. Raised duckboards through the rainforest take you to your room or yoga studio. The yoga studio was the most amazing space I have ever done yoga in, opening up to the centuries old banyan tree. Magic! The rooms were lovely, peaceful and so inviting that you could just be content to hang on the veranda reading a book looking out over the reef. If socialising is your thing, the main restaurant bar area is the place to be, the resort is so small you get introduced to all the other guest by name and become quick friends. I can understand why there are so many return visitors. I hope we too are able to return one day. Having stayed on the islands previously, my husband much preferred Matanivusi for the surfing locations and uncrowded breaks. Again with such a small number of guest the activities were organised around tides and what the guests were into that day. I often went out with the surf crew to snorkel and it was amazing with turtles and abundant sea life. Donna and Brian the owners were welcoming hosts, the staff were all lovely and together they have made this a very special place.

Thoroughly enjoyed every moment at this social / environmentally sustainable eco-resort! The quiet, intimate setting was just what I was looking for. The staff was incredibly friendly and tended to every detail. The food was AMAZING! And the surfing, snorkeling and yoga by “Grandaddy” - the 350 year old banyan tree was epic. I look forward to bringing a group of yoga students back to Matanivusi for a retreat at this magical, exclusive eco-resort! The owners, Donna and Brian have created quite a special place!
