Thank you to Matanavusi Beach Echo Resort and the Fijian people for an amazing all round epic adventure! This magic place offered Dan and I pumping uncrowded waves with a variety of options for all conditions. Also, the very best experience in culture, accommodation, location, food, fishing and snorkeling. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a culture rich Fijian experience with amazing uncrowded waves. Vinaka Vakalevu Donna, Brian and all the Matanavusi family.

This resort is amazing. We traveled with our 3 kids. Bures were comfortable, private and right on the beach. Food was awesome - every meal. The staff could not be friendlier or more accommodating. Good range of waves from learner friendly for the kids to cooking barrels for the dads. We will be back.

Matanivusi is a tropical oasis. Phenomenal surfing, patient instructors, delicious cuisine, terrific yoga and fabulous views. Thoroughly recommend! Lots of day activities available (ziplines, kayaking, surfing, hikes, waterfalls etc). We had a wonderfully relaxing time!

We had a great time at Matanivusi! The room was comfortable and quiet. The food was great and they did a good of accommodating our vegetarian diet. Donna was wonderfully helpful from her warm greeting until she saw us off—she made sure everything was taken care of and went out of her way to help schedule some off site scuba diving for my wife. Brian woke up early to personally take us surfing on a number of occasions before the boatmen got there. He clearly cares a lot about this place and works hard to keep things running to his standards. He's also a wealth of surfing knowledge and has seen it all. James and Chad we're great surf guides and got me into some of the best waves of my life. Emory and Weiss were fantastic boat captains and got us out to Frigates safely, many times and in some rough seas. The main surf boat had band new engines, ran well and was comfortable and safe. Frigates is way out in the ocean and you absolutely want a great crew and vessel if you're heading out there. The team packed great food and we were able to comfortably spend all day out there. There were a lot of great aspects to the trip, but that was the main draw for me and the team definitely delivered. The whole Fijian staff were amazing (apologies for any misspellings). Kreiga, Sala, Junior, Sany, Coola, Meleki, Ma, Mariah, and anyone else I'm forgetting. They were the best! Charlie was the visiting yoga instructor and she was awesome and super accommodating in terms of class schedule. The other guests were great as well and we surely made some lifelong friends. The eco aspects of the hotel are significant. They do a great job as stewards of the land they're on. Get Weiss to give you a tour of what they're doing. Enjoy! Vinaka to all!

Matanivusi is a beautiful eco-resort. If you like surfing, snorkeling, and paddle sports like SUP and kayaking, this is the place for you. Not only is the resort, surrounding ocean, and reefs incredibly beautiful, but you'll feel like you're among friends and family. The people working there ensure you're having a great time and make your stay even more enjoyable. Your stay will include three fantastic meals daily, plus appetizers before dinner. After a day of fun activities, sitting outside by the pool and watching the glorious sunset over the ocean is just the way to start your evening. The communal dinner table is a great way to get to know other guests. One of the best things about Matanivusi is its small ecological footprint. Donna and Brian, the owners, have considered all aspects of the resort's resource use and have accomplished many circular eco-friendly systems. They were the first resort to be certified by STOKE, Sustainable Tourism and Outdoors Kit for Evaluation, the world’s first sustainability certification body with standards built specifically for surf and ski tourism operators. My husband and I loved Matanivusi Resort and highly recommend a stay there. We hope to return there soon.

We had an amazing time at Matanivusi for our honeymoon. Felt like we stumbled across a real gem- it feels very remote and serene but it's pretty easy to get to. The resort is beautifully in keeping with the tropical forest and we loved it's eco crudentials (the eco tour is well worth taking!). Walking straight out of your room onto the beach felt amazing and you fall asleep listening to the birds and the waves lapping up on the shore. We had swans on our bed and a private dinner with prosecco for our honeymoon, which was so generous of Matanivusi. The Fijian people are so welcoming and friendly and we learnt a lot about the Fijian culture, which we were so touched by. The trip to the village and school were heartwarming and the Kava ceremony was a lovely end to our holiday. Food was fantastic. As was transport and bar service. We had such an incredible yoga teacher for our stay and doing yoga amongst the old trees in a rainstorm is something I will remember for a long time. We met some amazing fellow travellers too. Massage was incredible. Surf was amazing; I was too much of a beginner to really get into it but Arthur really took me under his wing and helped me get some waves. My husband was stoked on the waves, especially the 2 trips to Frigates. The only downer of the trip was that I did find Brian to be overly critical and dismissive of the staff in front of guests. I never talked to the staff about it but I could tell that they weren't being treated right. When Arthur stood on a sea urchin later in the week, Brian was very flippant and seemed to make out that it almost served him right, which I was quite upset by. Overall, I would highly recommend Matanivusi :)

We loved our stay at Matanivusi; it was exactly what we needed. My partner went surfing every day, while I went snorkelling, read, did yoga and made friends with the other surf widows. The staff were so friendly; Junior kept us on our toes with his wicked sense of humour, Captain Morgan found some brilliant waves for my partner, Melaki (not sure I've spelled correctly) gave a wonderful pregnancy massage and Tania, the yoga instructor, only arrived half way through our stay but was a beautiful addition to the Matanivusi community and led us through the most magical classes underneath the huge banyan tree. The food was consistently outstanding (although I wish they offered half portions - they're definitely cooked for people who have been surfing all day) and waking up to the sound of the ocean right outside our door was heavenly. I loved the commitment to sustainability, too, which I think attracts a smarter, more conscious and interesting, laid back type of guest (pretty important when there are only 12 rooms and you're eating together every night). If you're looking for 5 star luxury, this probably isn't your vibe (think worm toilets and BYO - ideally eco friendly - shampoo), but if you want genuinely passionate staff, awesome location, delicious hearty meals and activities on demand, Matanivusi is for you.

A week at Matanivusi is a week you won't forget. There are multiple surf spots all within an hour from the resort, so no matter the conditions you'll always have waves somewhere. The food is incredible, there are multiple dishes to choose from everyday for each meal. If you're lucky enough to catch a fish they'll make sashimi for you and serve it beautifully. The staff really create a 'family' vibe by setting a big table each night for all guests to sit at. This gives you the opportunity to mingle with other guests, which you'll end up being best buds with by the end of the week. If you're unlucky and get a super rainy day with no surf, there's still plenty to do. Yoga, snorkelling, kayaking, a hot tub, beachfront pool and local waterfall trips. The staff are so welcoming and genuine, we felt very well looked after. A unique, fun and adventurous experience I will never forget!
