One of our stops back packing in Guatemala, we stayed two nights. Nice clean and friendly staff. Close to center and lots of restaurants close by. Also fairly close to take the boat to Santiago. Very close to tour operators.
This place has some amenities like free kayaks but the woman owner is money grubbing and difficult to deal with. They are already double or triple the price of other similar places in town but because I booked on Expedia she gave me a small service member closet behind the reception near the entrance. After asking for a different room and offering to pay more she wanted pretty much another nights rate for a slightly better room. Far from the dock and in a small alley. They’re living off their TripAdvisor score and even then they can’t fill the place because they’re triple the price for no real reason. The workers are nice and will help with unloading kayaks but the owner is something else.
Lady owner doesn’t have a clue what customer service is... I came with my mother and she was awful, it seemed she didn’t want us there. She was rude!! Bad experience!!! I travel around the world and I have never been treated like that, the most sad thing is that I haven’t been there since 2015 in my own country.
San Pedro offers ample reward for the 4 hour taxi ride from Guatemala City. Hotel Sakcari is well located, near a variety of good restaurants, language schools, spas, and not far from the public market or the boat docks offering access to the surrounding towns. The view of a full moon rising across the lake cannot be beat. Even caught view from our room of a distant volcano spewing fire at sunrise!
Antigua is a must for any visitors to Guatemala. The hotel is conveniently situated 10 mins walk from the main square. Hotel Sakcari is charming, with a most attractive roof terrace, and courtyard with small pool. The sister hotel round the corner is bigger and has more amenities, which are available to those staying at Sakcari. Antigua has many attractions, and it is overlooked by the majestic Agua volcano.
