Not only is Lake Atitlan a spectacular destination surrounded by color and nature, Villa Sumaya created an unforgettable experience that allowed the yoga retreat to feel like a dream come true. The ambiance at Villa Sumaya served everyone in the exact way that they needed- whether they knew they needed it and sought it out, or not. During the yoga retreat, we felt truly transported to a world that served as our therapy, escape, and solace. I was pleasantly surprised at some of the unexpected experiences and authenticity of the retreat offerings from their teachers and guides. There were plenty of services and excursions to choose from, and a variety of available practitioners who served us with genuine passion and spiritual guidance. The staff of Villa Sumaya were present to be available for any questions or requests, but not overbearing, and the cleaning staff was always friendly and peaceful-natured. The food was beyond our expectations, even after hearing about how delicious the daily buffets were. The abundance of portions was surprising as well. I will never forget my experience at Villa Sumaya on Lake Atitlan. I hope to return and enjoy another retreat there.

I recently attended a retreat at Villa Sumaya and it was just fabulous. The location was absolutely serene with beautiful views all around the property. Jorge was fabulous and took care of everything the group needed and all of the staff were really terrific. I loved that we got to meet all of the healers at the beginning of the trip, so we could select our treatments for the week. I’m not a vegetarian, but the food was fresh and delicious and the menu was really creative. From our location, we could take a boat to all different villages around the lake. If you are thinking of doing a retreat at Villa Sumaya, do not hesitate! You’ll leave in a state of bliss.

Our retreat at Villa Sumaya just ended and it was wonderful! The energy of the lake, the beauty and strength of the people surrounded us constantly. Jorge helped us with everything that we could ask for. The healing staff was incredible! Paola left me in a state of pure bliss and relaxation. We had a long trip and the drivers and boat operators were patient and helped guide us. They handled our group well and made our already close connection even stronger. I’m so grateful for this beautiful experience. We had a few small issues with some of the wildlife. Mostly just spiders and ants. Other wildlife included the resident Shiva, a small black cat, and Lila, a golden retriever. They were so sweet and very welcoming! Right before we left we lost water and power in few places because of a bad wind storm. Not the resort’s fault. Just something to be aware of. It’s a very remote place and built to be ecologically sustainable. The food was amazing and abundant and varied everyday for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I would go back to this place in a heartbeat. I absolutely love it here! Thank you to the beautiful staff at Villa Sumaya for a great stay!

I can absolutely say I had wonder time in Villa Sumaya. Staff was friendly and Bilingual. This is a retreat center not a hotel. My room was simple but clean. My bed and pillows were comfortable. I was worried about not having enough activities scheduled throughout the day, I did have to add a couple more (it was additional). I was only there for 3 days personal retreat. I took yoga classes, had a massage, did the cacao ceremony, sweat lodge, and I also had an astrological reading done. The food was excellent. I can't wait to return. :)

Villa Sumaya was everything I wanted for a solo vacation and more. It was picture perfect (even more beautiful than I expected), my room was the best room I've ever stayed in (Ginger Suite 19), the staff was so friendly and accommodating, and I looked forward to every delicious meal. My private yoga classes with Gema were exactly what I needed, plus spa treatments with Marcelo, Alba, and Robert were the icing on the cake. Make sure to ask for a kayak one morning - it is so peaceful! You will not regret booking this Guatemalan oasis whether it's with friends, family, or on a personal retreat as I was. I cannot wait to go back!
