I don't even know where to start raving about this place. I've traveled 6 continents and have been lucky enough to stay in some beautiful accommodations but this place is next level. If you really want to inspire envy across all your social media channels, this is the place - especially Bungalow 5 which is hands down the best value for money property I've ever seen. So much care and attention to detail has gone into everything on this property, you can tell it is very much a labor of love for the owners. And speaking of the owners, you can't ask for nicer hosts!! The food is great, there's even a wine cellar! Finally, you can't forget the dogs - Sansa, Sacha and Biscuit are just the best. Lake Atitlan is magical on its own but if you really want to take it up a level, stay here!!

This place is it. It’s secluded with beautiful and well maintained grounds. Each casa is secluded in its own spot that you almost feel you have the entire cove to yourself.. well other than Sasha, Sanza and Bicsuit the 3 incredible dogs that live on the property. Sanza will be happy if at anytime you want to play fetch with an avocado. And if dogs aren’t your thing they will leave you be. The minimal footprint of this place is inspiring. Being mostly self-sustainable and still able to provide top amenities is something to be proud of. The food is incredible and I miss the delicious coffee and breakfast watching the sunrise. I am pescatarian and my husband a vegan, so we sometimes worry of being that burden to small hotels. We stayed for a week and the dinners were do delicious! The quaint style and attentiveness of the staff is unparalleled. They are the there to help with any needs. Kat and Steve are so awesome and we loved getting the chance to talk with them. The location is secluded in its own cove, but it is so close to any of the nearby villages and easily accessible and cheap by taxi boat. Lake Atitlan has such colorful and kind cultures living among the lake. And if exploring isn’t your thing than you will have plenty of relaxing and swimming to do on the property. To bring up the obvious concerns for many.. COVID. I work in healthcare in the US and felt that coming here was safer than traveling to see my family over the holidays. Guatemala’s numbers are very low. Temperatures are taken on outings and hand sanitizer everywhere. All people on the flight had a negative test prior to arrival. We took a very safe private van (driver was partitioned from us) to the lake from the hotel. Everyone wears masks. The property is super secluded and quiet. Meals can be delivered to your room for your own privacy. What you are comfortable with is a personal thing. But when you are ready this should be the first place you go. And when you do, this magic cove and incredible vibe will be waiting for you. We will definitely be back.

If you are even looking at La Fortuna, stop looking anywhere else on the Lake. It gets no better than this. The property is absolutely gorgeous and Suite 1 is hands down my favorite. In addition to the amazing views, La Fortuna seems like a property fit for 30 but only 8-12 people are there at any time. It feels like a little wonderful private oasis. Add to that the food...unreal. No need to eat dinner anywhere else, I was blown away by the quality and preparation of the dinners and breakfast. Can it get better? Yup, it sure can. 3 dogs...3 wonderful, loving dogs. If you are a dog owner, this feels like home away from home...see my pics for proof! Finally, great people make great experiences even greater. Owners Kat and Steve were wonderfully helpful and attentive prior to, during, and after our stay. While we there, Angelique was running the place for our 4 days...Angelique is one of the most terrific woman I’ve ever met. She went above and beyond the call of duty in every sense. Her friendliness and happiness was felt in every interaction. I cannot say enough about her and how wonderful she was. Don’t miss this place...it’s SO SO special. And make sure you give love to Sasha, Sanza, and Biscuit! Trevor

We needed a change of scenery. And, we came to the right place! La Fortuna is a full service eco-lodge overlooking the serene and majestic Lake Atitlan. We had amazing massages, delicious food and slept peacefully for 10 hours. That hasn’t happened in a very long time. Guatemala is far more responsive to Covid health advisories than the U.S. Every precaution was taken to protect people against infection. We now feel rested and prepared for the next phase of Covid.

We stayed at La Fortuna for the second time and it was even better than the first (2019). As always the staff saw to our every need and went way above and beyond to help us get around the lake (post-quarantine travel is a little more complicated than usual). The Deluxe Suite was amazing (again). If you're planning a trip to the lake, do yourself a favor and stay at La Fortuna... there's no other place like it.
