We called the resort from San Jose, CR the day before we were to head down to Jinetes de Oso and we were told the diving was great. So we spent the whole next day traveling to get there (bus, taxi, boat taxi through mangrove...More

I think it is remarkable how a reasonable and fair minded person can condemn the diving at Cano Island for two months (August and September) based upon an untimely three day experience in September.
If after reading this review and my response, you are still...More

Jinetes de Osa is like a summer camp for well-traveled adventurers. Beautiful setting right off the beach and a very positive, upbeat management on site. Good dive op as well with cool divemasters: CK and Oscar. Great birding with Scarlet Macaws making regular appearances. There...More
My husband and I spent several days at Jinetes, and had many amazing adventures. The diving was amazing. I'm a new diver and was very nervous about going down, but the dive master (Vincent) was wonderful - and made me feel at ease. The horse...More
We stayed 4 nts and totally enjoyed all the different people you meet at dinner. It almost feels like you're at summer camp. Carrie and Jessica line you out the night before on your next days excursion (Cano, Corcovado, fishing, hiking etc.) They're like counselors...More

They bring the horses to the hotel and you head out. The ride is guided, through town and some back roads that take you to the river. There is a spot to stop and walk into the waterfall. Total time is appropriate 3 hours. You cannot hike on Cano Island. You can swim, dive or snorkel. A guide leads you. There are lovely beaches nearby the hotel. You have approx 20 minute walk through the jungle. You can rent kayaks nearby. There are lots of hikes. The hotel staff can help you with everything. They are great!

If you will be arriving to Drake Bay from San Jose, there are two ways to travel by air or by land. The easiest way of arriving to Drake Bay is by taking a flight from San Jose to Drake Bay. There are two airlines that make this flight; SANSA Airlines and Nature Air. The flight costs about $150 each way per person. You can also take a bus to Palmar Norte, where we will pick you up in a taxi and bring you to the town of Sierpe. In Sierpe we will have a boat waiting that will bring you to Drake Bay. It takes 4 1/2 hours by bus to Palmar, 15 min in taxi to Sierpe, and 1 hour by boat to Drake. It costs about $10 for the bus, and $35/person from Palmar to Drake. There is also a private shuttle that I can reserve for you that would pick you up at your hotel in San Jose and bring you directly to Sierpe where you will catch the boat for $85/person. You can also rent a car and drive to Sierpe. From San Jose the drive takes about 5 hours and you need to keep in mind that there are two times the taxi boat departs Sierpe. Once at 11:30am and again at 3:30pm. You can also drive directly to Drake Bay as well. However you must have a good 4x4 and a keen sense of adventure as the road to Drake is only passable during the dry season due to several rivers that you must cross to get there. You can see all this on our website.
If you will be in another location and traveling to Drake Bay please let me know and I will suggest other ways of traveling to the hotel.
