#6 of 15 hotels in Drake Bay
Travelers' Choice
Since it was founded in 1985, Drake Bay Wilderness Resort has continued to be a family run business. Our focus has been to take good care of our guests so that they'll feel right at home. We try to be as flexible as possible, taking into consideration people´s needs and we do our very best to fulfill special requests. For instance, we will prepare meals for special diets. Furthermore, the hotel is situated in one of the most beautiful locations in the area. It has large open areas with a bounty of beautiful flowers, tropical plants, big mango trees, and beach almond trees that attract the raucous macaws. The property gives you the feel of being in a private island since the river flows along the backside of the property and the whole front side meets the ocean. In addition to this, most visitors come to us by boat and the access by land to the hotel is a small path, unreachable by car, that is submerged in a jungle. Best of all, there is a paradise like view of the bay and ocean, reflecting the deep blue sky and, beyond that, hills bound in lush forests. We offer all sorts of extras that help make our guests' stay more comfortable and enjoyable. For example, we include a full laundry service. Kayaks close to the water are always at our guests' disposal. We have a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, dock, and hammocks to relax under the shade of a tree with the cool ocean breeze blowing on you. From our hotel we take guests on adventures in snorkeling, hiking, diving, canoeing and whale watching. Visitors often see four species of monkeys, sloths, tapir, caiman and a myriad of birds, including the scarlet macaw, mangrove hawk, toucan...

Drake Bay is well worth the struggle to get there (fly into small airport, drive/ford the roads and rivers to the beach, and finally, a boat to the Resort). Once there, you have the perfect little cabins (with air conditioning thankfully) right on the ocean, and an easy walk to the bar/pool, office, or the dining hall. Food is good, but leans towards typical Costa Rican foods. They went all out for Valentines Day, with roses and everything! Several tours to Corcovado NP and Cano Island and other interesting spots, plus kayaking in the River. The weather is hot and humid, so be prepared. Few bugs, and barefoot everywhere is ok except for the rocky volcanic shore.

We absolutely loved our stay at DBWL. The views are fantastic. The owners, staff, and guides are 5 star. Rooms are basic and the mattresses are greatly improved with a mattress pad. The food was very good and met everyone’s dietary restrictions. We are on a 2 week tour of Costa Rica and this was a favorite. The tours are amazing and the guides highly experienced. A trip of a lifetime. However, if you are expecting 5 star amenities this is probably not your place. For us it exceeded our expectations. Would love to come back. Pura Vida.

This was the most hospitable resort. Everything was beautiful and thoughtful here. The beds were comfortable, food was delicious and the view/ location was fantastic. I especially appreciated how good the service was. They helped us organize everything we wanted to do to. For a few days during our trip I came down with a cold and they made me fresh ginger and tumeric tea for every meal. When we didnt go out on a tour one day they brought us lunch to a private table near our room where we had beautiful ocean views and macaws eating fruit above us. I really recommend this resort above all others.

BASICS Our stay at the all-inclusive Drake Bay Wilderness Resort was one of the most memorable weeks of our travelling lives. The resort is a peaceful place, carved out of the jungle along the coast. It’s rich with plant life - particularly flowers, insects and birds, frogs and monkeys. The ocean waves provide a relaxing, background thrum. The shoreline at the resort is quite rocky and more suitable for long and thoughtful gazing than swimming, but there are beaches near by. The citizens of the wild - Howler Monkeys, Basilisk (Jesus Christ) Lizards, Red Eyed Tree Frogs (and many other species), Toucans (and many other birds) - are common sights here. We felt immersed in the natural world each moment of the day. GETTING THERE Drake Bay Wilderness Resort had arranged a ride

The best option in this area and possibly Costa Rica, as a Tico (people from Costa Rica) who loves to really know his country. I can state this place is such an nice place. If we perform an evaluation of this place in terms of operational excellence we can say: Time to receive services: outstanding Benefit VS cost: outstanding Quality: Outstanding Customer Service: Exceptional Even though this place is not a foreign hotel is better than others even outside Costa Rica, is a Real Tourism Experience y Customer Service. The price is very affordable and to the customer side in relation with the quality, and what you receive (exceed the expectations) I impressed and amazed with this decision I made to come here with my family and friends!....
