Since it was founded in 1985, Drake Bay Wilderness Resort has continued to be a family run business. Our focus has been to take good care of our guests so that they'll feel right at home. We try to be as flexible as possible, taking into consideration people´s needs and we do our very best to fulfill special requests. For instance, we will prepare meals for special diets. Furthermore, the hotel is situated in one of the most beautiful locations in the area. It has large open areas with a bounty of beautiful flowers, tropical plants, big mango trees, and beach almond trees that attract the raucous macaws. The property gives you the feel of being in a private island since the river flows along the backside of the property and the whole front side meets the ocean. In addition to this, most visitors come to us by boat and the access by land to the hotel is a small path, unreachable by car, that is submerged in a jungle. Best of all, there is a paradise like view of the bay and ocean, reflecting the deep blue sky and, beyond that, hills bound in lush forests. We offer all sorts of extras that help make our guests' stay more comfortable and enjoyable. For example, we include a full laundry service. Kayaks close to the water are always at our guests' disposal. We have a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, dock, and hammocks to relax under the shade of a tree with the cool ocean breeze blowing on you. From our hotel we take guests on adventures in snorkeling, hiking, diving, canoeing and whale watching. Visitors often see four species of monkeys, sloths, tapir, caiman and a myriad of birds, including the scarlet macaw, mangrove hawk, toucan...

We stayed 5 nights in this hotel. the location is great, food is nice and so are the facilities. the staff in the restaurant is kind. However, the reception is confusing. It was not clear how to arrange the tours - if the hotel arranges them or orders via other agencies. It could be confusing. It would be also nice to get a short information on the offered tours. It can be confusing and stressful if you have limited time. The reception is somehow not very communicative. Even a simple small chat would help. Drake Bay is not an obvious place. As a result I did not feel well in the beginning of my stay - later on I have found out myself.

We loved our stay at Drake Bay Wilderness Resort. It is in a gorgeous location right where the river meets the ocean, with a long stretch of waterfront property and dramatic ocean views. I particularly like that it is family-run by a lovely Costa Rican family (who are also bilingual) who clearly work hard to keep the beautiful grounds and flowering plants in tip-top shape. The staff were so friendly and kind, and the meals were excellent. I also loved that they have canoes for guests to use; canoeing down the river is definitely worth doing. Finally, the owner told us about a large tide pool just at the end of the property that was a perfect place for our girls to swim. Go check it out!

My family and I stayed at Drake Bay Wilderness Resort six years ago and we have kept coming back since. Before our first stay, we researched all of the hotels in the area and felt that the location was the most beautiful; we could not have made a better decision! We could not speak of the atmosphere, the owners and employees, and the amenities more highly. The hotel catered to our dietary needs and made sure that we were comfortable. The all-inclusive resort comes up in conversation at least once a month for innumerable reasons: the breathtaking views of wildlife and the peaceful ocean waves; the luxurious meals; the kindhearted concierge that welcomes you and treats you like family; and the fact that I already plan my next trip days before I leave the current adventure. I

My wife and i took a two week trip traveling all over Costa Rica. We started in San Jose, to La Fortuna, to Monteverde, then to Manuel Antonio, our last stop, and the one we were most excited about, was Drake Bay. We arrived by boat since the resort has to roads leading to it, and we were met with a welcome drink of some delicious fruit punch. We were then shown to our bungalow as the Owner/operator grabbed our bags (which weighed a total of about 80lbs) and carried them up to our room at the top of about 2 flights of stairs. The view was incredible. The staff was extremely friendly and really helpful with all our tours. We started our stay being the only guests in the whole place, but that didn't stop the wonderful service. The bar was open and ready to serve, the food... the

We stayed at Drake Bay wilderness resort during Christmas time 2019, and enjoyed our stay a lot. The resort is in a very nice location and the grounds are very well kept. The resort was very helpful in organizing the trips to Corcovado and Cano island, and was flexible in adapting the trips schedule upon arrival. The guides were very good and we saw a lot of wildlife as a result, even a puma up close ! It is definitely worth going to both ranger stations, the boat ride along the coast is beautiful. There was quite some wildlife on and around the grounds of the resort, with groups of monkeys passing by every now and then. Cano island was good for snorkeling - unfortunately we decided not to go diving, we maybe should have. The owner and staff are very friendly and

Drake Bay is well worth the struggle to get there (fly into small airport, drive/ford the roads and rivers to the beach, and finally, a boat to the Resort). Once there, you have the perfect little cabins (with air conditioning thankfully) right on the ocean, and an easy walk to the bar/pool, office, or the dining hall. Food is good, but leans towards typical Costa Rican foods. They went all out for Valentines Day, with roses and everything! Several tours to Corcovado NP and Cano Island and other interesting spots, plus kayaking in the River. The weather is hot and humid, so be prepared. Few bugs, and barefoot everywhere is ok except for the rocky volcanic shore.

We absolutely loved our stay at DBWL. The views are fantastic. The owners, staff, and guides are 5 star. Rooms are basic and the mattresses are greatly improved with a mattress pad. The food was very good and met everyone’s dietary restrictions. We are on a 2 week tour of Costa Rica and this was a favorite. The tours are amazing and the guides highly experienced. A trip of a lifetime. However, if you are expecting 5 star amenities this is probably not your place. For us it exceeded our expectations. Would love to come back. Pura Vida.

This was the most hospitable resort. Everything was beautiful and thoughtful here. The beds were comfortable, food was delicious and the view/ location was fantastic. I especially appreciated how good the service was. They helped us organize everything we wanted to do to. For a few days during our trip I came down with a cold and they made me fresh ginger and tumeric tea for every meal. When we didnt go out on a tour one day they brought us lunch to a private table near our room where we had beautiful ocean views and macaws eating fruit above us. I really recommend this resort above all others.

BASICS Our stay at the all-inclusive Drake Bay Wilderness Resort was one of the most memorable weeks of our travelling lives. The resort is a peaceful place, carved out of the jungle along the coast. It’s rich with plant life - particularly flowers, insects and birds, frogs and monkeys. The ocean waves provide a relaxing, background thrum. The shoreline at the resort is quite rocky and more suitable for long and thoughtful gazing than swimming, but there are beaches near by. The citizens of the wild - Howler Monkeys, Basilisk (Jesus Christ) Lizards, Red Eyed Tree Frogs (and many other species), Toucans (and many other birds) - are common sights here. We felt immersed in the natural world each moment of the day. GETTING THERE Drake Bay Wilderness Resort had arranged a ride
