Our stay at Aguila de Osa was soooo incredible. The food was excellent. We only mentioned to be vegan and they went crazy with dessert ideas, vegan Ceviche, pestos, burgers and especially very tasty local dishes. great coffee and cookies whenever you feel like it. the staff and service is great: so friendly, very attentive, know your schedule and perfectly time food and trips. you don’t have to take care of anything. the room was so clean, no bugs, spiders and even mosquitos whatsoever (August, rain season). we did not need to use our own mosquito net. comfi beds. shower with sounds and looks into the jungle. and the best: the veranda with trees right in front of it with plenty of monkey and wildlife action (humming birds, toucans, Iguanas, spider and white capuccin monkeys) to just sit and watch (sunrise/sunsets recommended). the tours were so well guided (mangrove/Sierpe river tour with so many animals, a must! Cano Island scuba dive (awesome schools of fish, white tip reef shark and turtles. snorkelers saw about the same). The only thing to improve would be some deck or beach chairs to make relaxing on the veranda cosier (there are chairs and a hammock, though).…
It is difficult to imagine a place I enjoy more. The staff here is incredibly friendly and detail oriented. The bartender and chefs are excellent. The environment is such that prioritizes guest comfort while protecting the beautiful wildlife that most of the guests are enjoying. The food is amazing, the drinks are perfect, and the kayaks are free if you want to enjoy them after your daily tour. The only issue we had at all was that some of the other guests were very loud after hours. We were tired and wanted to sleep, knowing we would have to be up at 6a if not earlier. However, we resolved that issue. Everything else about this place was perfect. It was within walking distance to a beautiful beach. The staff was a delight. The food was delicious. The drinks were amazing. The wildlife you saw on the premises was such a delight. I want to return to CR just to stay there again. They are the embodiment of a perfect place on the Osa Peninsula.…
Firstly it’s an adventure in itself to get there, but it’s part of the excitement and well worth it! By the time you arrive you’ve already seen tonnes of wildlife! Food is freshly cooked and of excellent standard and presentation. Staff are super friendly and helpful - we felt very well looked after and like a home from home. Views from the rooms are incredible. The mangrove tour with Tony and Edwin was excellent, their knowledge and wildlife spotting skills is unbelievable! Sandra was a great snorkelling instructor, we were lucky enough to see lots of turtles, reef sharks and lots of colourful fish- highly recommend. The Corcovado National park is on your door step and there are some great walks right from your door - they will provide a delicious packed lunch for you too. The location is stunning, you are literally amongst nature. Will definitely be going back, it’s a gem!…
I finished my trip to Costa Rica at Aguila de Osa. I stayed for six nights. I went to San Pedrillo and Sirena Stations in Corcovado, snorkeling at Cano Island, bird watching, took a night walk tour, walked to the beaches and to Drake Bay multiple times and loved using the kayaks. There was so much to do! Everyone was helpful and friendly, especially Stephanie! I loved meeting folks from all over the world while sharing our meals. The food and drinks were fantastic! There was so much food! It was an incredible experience. Every day I encountered something new just around the hotel, macaws, toucans, white-face capuchins, frogs, little crabs every where, and so many birds! Thank you!
Aquila De Osa is a resort on the Osa Peninsula, and the experience was the highlight of our two week tour through Costa Rica. We got to the lodge after dark because of a flight delay as the result of a plane crash at the San Jose Airport. Just getting to the lodge was an adventure. We were picked up at the Drake Bay airport and driven about 25 minutes to a small boat launch. After ditching our shoes and walking through the water to the boat, we had about a 5 minute ride to the lodge's dock where we were met by the hostess. She gave us a welcome drink and explained the activities and how meals would be handled. A very good orientation. We had a 4 day and 3 night package that included all meals. Our room, 8, was about a 5 minute walk from the lodge reception/dining room/sitting area. It was somewhat of a steep incline, but we got used to it. Our room was their standard with 2 queen beds. There was no TV or A/C, but it wasn't needed since there was a ceiling fan. It was very clean, and did have a mini fridge, and a front porch with table and chairs. The view from the porch was great. The upper part of the walls in the room were just screens, but there were pull down shades for privacy. The room could have used better lightning, but we were not there very much. The grounds at the lodge were spectacular and full of wildlife. We saw monkeys everyday and many lizards, spiders, and birds. Some guests said they saw crocodiles in the bay that housed the boats, but we never saw them. Incidentally, the howler monkeys woke us up every day between 4:00AM and 5:00AM. Our package included both a snorkeling trip and a guided tour through Corcorvado National Park. The snorkeling trip was fun, but the water was not very clear on our day. Still we saw a lot of interesting fish as well as some sea turtles. We also saw a lot of wildlife on the guided hike. Meals served at the lodge restaurant were very good. At each meal we were given a selection of what we wanted for the next meal. The service was great and very friendly. The lodge offers free use of their kayaks and there is a river off the bay that extends into the rainforest for about 1 KM that is great for a mellow trip. For the more adventurous, going out into the bay with some bigger waves is an option. I would highly recommend a visit to Aquila de Osa. If you are into wildlife and nature, this is the place to stay.…
We stayed for 3 nights and would definitely recommend this place to everybody wanting to visit Corocovado and Isla Caño. The hotel offers great trips but we especially enjoyed the personal touch and the easy way how the hotel and extremely friendly staff encourage to interact with other guests and have a great time doing so. We met wonderful people during our stay. Hope to come again.
Overall, this was a very beautiful place to stay and most representative of "Costa Rica" when I imagined what Costa Rica would be like before I had ever been here. The place is quite beautiful, and there is much to recommend. What I liked: - The food is really good and is priced into the hotel charges so you don't have to worry about unexpected extra food costs (except for the alcoholic drinks) - they have a wide variety of cocktails - lots of fun and tasty mixed drinks with a tropical flair - you eat at large tables with the other travelers rather than with just your own party, and the Inn hosts a pre-dinner appetizer/drinks "happy hour" with all the travelers in a cozy setting. So you get to meet people from all over the world, which I think is a pretty enriching experience. Every night and day we sat with someone different. The Inn encourages this intermingling, which I think is nice. - surrounded by lush tropical forests; you are really in the middle of the jungle at this place and see lots of beautiful birds, monkeys, etc. - the people are all very friendly and helpful - I think that is par for the course in Costa Rica, though. - the rooms are large and airy, and although there is no A/C, the windows are open, screened and have good cross-ventilation with ceiling fans, so I was never too hot (my husband on the other hand says otherwise....!) What I did not like/caveats: - the biggest negative for this part of our trip, which really was no fault of the Inn is that you cannot get to Drake Bay by car UNLESS you are traveling in a 4WD large vehicle capable of driving through small rivers and for many miles over small, dirt roads. We did not know this when we booked our stay. We assumed we would drive to get there. We were totally surprised to find out the day before we were to go to Drake Bay that it is extraordinarily difficult to get to Drake Bay by car. We spent a stressful night beforehand researching our options (this was all prompted by the Inn sending an email/text to my husband that night offering round trip boat trans for $100+pp each way - which we quickly determined was too expensive). We researched and found that there is public boat transportation to Drake Bay in Sierpe (which supposedly costs $15-$20 each way - a lot more reasonable cost). We drove to Sierpe but once there, got directed to the Inn's private transportation, and they told us there that it was $84pp each way (confusion over the pricing from the Inn). I assume that many travelers would not know the requirements to get to Drake Bay. For that reason, the Inn should have more of an explanation on their website about this transportation issue. A warning about the difficulty of travel by car at a minimum would suffice. Also, their pricing for the transportation is unreasonable, I think. So, I recommend that you figure your transportation plan to Drake Bay before you go to Costa Rica. Expect to get to the Inn either by boat or by plane, but not by car if you can help it... Other than that, it's pretty rustic lodging in the rooms and, if you book a standard room, you don't get much privacy from your neighbors. We had one neighbor who was a heavy smoker, and we could smell the smoke coming in from the outdoors whenever we were in our room. The windows are screened only (can't be closed up), and you can hear and smell everything from the outdoors, including your neighbors smoking and talking. If I go again, I would get a deluxe or better room for the private porch. Otherwise, it is truly a beautiful place, and I hope to be back again soon.…
Great location loved the boat trip to get there. Nancy who welcomed us was super very informative and welcoming. The activities are included in the stay do no hidden charges. Not far to walk to a couple of nice beaches. The trip to the Corcovado National park was fantastic esp the puma foot prints! Food was really good esp breakfast. One word of caution you need to be mobile to stay here as all the rooms have quite a steep climb. Rooms were spacious and we had a lovely balcony with a hammock and great views. Good cocktails too.
This was my second Time staying at Aguila de Osa and it was even more magical than the first time. Brad Johnson owner is an amazing host and his team including Christina, Rebecca and Nancy Treated us like family. They helped us plan tours and make sure we were organized in advance and prepared. We went scuba diving (amazing!) we did night hikes, we walked to the beaches, went kayaking, did bird watching tours and the list goes on! The staff organized it all! Originally we were concerned about the steps and the lack of swimming pool but that quickly went away and was over powered by all the other amazing amenities! I would consider this more of a “lodge” feel than a hotel; great feel and character which sets it apart- very special! We loved the Familial culture for meals in the Beautiful open air great room overlooking the bay. We met really interesting people from all over the world. We heard the ocean waves at night and saw Scarlett macaws in the morning and Monkeys all from our room!!! We will be back!…
My husband loved everything about this resort and location! To get there we took a flight from San Jose to Drake Bay. Then we were greeted by a driver who drove us to a boat. The boat ride was about 5 minutes. All of that was coordinated by the resort. When we arrived a manager was on the dock waiving hello to us. She brought us up to the meeting area with a yummy welcome drink and caught us up quickly on what to expect during our visit. From there she brought us to our room. Yes there are a lot of steps and it took a few days to get use to that. However the room was so beautiful. We loved the architecture of the building and the view is spectacular. Our favorite part was the monkeys came to wake us up every morning and we saw them again every evening! Another highlight of our trip was the scuba diving at Cano Island!!! It is a must do bucket list item. We saw thousands of fish of all sizes. Swimming through those large schools of fish will be a forever memory! We want to go back to do it again! Next time we will scuba dive every day! On one of our dives we saw 10 sharks. It was an awesome dive! The food at the resort was delicious. We got a choice of 3 entrees every dinner and lunch. It was always hard to decide. The drinks were also delicious! The bartender and waiter was always looking to assist us and a pleasure to see every day. Please be sure to tip them if you go to this resort because they work long hours and very appreciative. On our last day we didn’t want to leave. We had stayed for 5 nights and we could have easily stayed for a week or two! Every dinner we loved talking to our new friends and hearing about their day. There was a family that highly recommended a RV tour and horse tour. The beach trip was also highly recommended. We left the resort by boat to Sierpe. We were a little nervous because we read the water can be choppy but overall we thought it was a fun boat ride. When we got to Sierpe a rental car was waiting for us there so we could continue our trip to Manual Antonio and La Fortuna. We were in Costa Rica for 2 weeks. Our favorite part of our trip was at Aguila de Osa. We both want to go back next year!…
