A group of us came from Florida, thanks to recent travel restrictions lifted had no problem (everyone can visit Costa Rica now). We had a rental car that we parked at their gated lot in Sierpe (super easy and secure) and took the shuttle boat from there to the resort, nice little scenic boat ride, dock to dock and they help with bags etc. We were greeted by staff and the owner Bradd (who is wonderful) kindly and while our bags were carried to our room enjoyed orientation in the beautiful dining/common area with a tropical drink. Everyone was masked up from the boat to the resort and the tours, we wore a mask to the table, cleaned our feet and sanitized our hands (all available) every time we were in common area, and guests and tabels were spaced out, so felt completely safe as far as covid goes, definitely more so than in our home of Florida. Every meal was amazing, fresh fish, fruit, choices. We enjoyed a breakfast, lunch, appetizer and dinner every day. Our room was beautiful, overlooking the forest and bay behind us, large patio with hammocks to relax, very clean cozy and charming. We did two days of diving off Cano island, only a short boat ride from the resort, and our guide was great, saw tons of sea life both days and not a lot of traffic out there so very personal (so don't hesitate to go now before the whole world gets back to traveling). We also did a rainforest tour in the massive Corcovado park, also a short scenic boat ride from the resort. In just a few hours we saw, monkeys, wild boar, exotic birds, cayman and much more. All of the tours can be arranged from the resort and leave from the resort. We just spent 3 nights as we were hopping around but you could easily spend a week here and take many tours or just relax. One of our party had visited before and the rest of us will definitely be back. This is not a typical chain resort experience, this is a really personal exotic and special place, deep in nature but with first class accomodations (and there were other guests to mingle with if you like, and also a little town nearby within walking distance). Covid or not I highly recommend visiting Aguila de Osa!

We stayed in September of 2018 and although it was officially the rainy season, we were able to get a lot of birding in. A scuba trip to Caño Island one day with fabulous crew was spectacular as all the Humpbacks were in the bay with their calves. We must've seen 20 breaches while the boat was stopped on the way out to Caño. Diving was fantastic--excellent viz and beautiful marine life (turtles, abundance of fish, eels, etc.). Water was nice and warm. I dove in a shorty. Definitely take something for nausea on the boat. The food at Aguila was superb--all meals were served with guests together and we met a lot of wonderful people from all over. Service was stellar. On the grounds, we found a sloth roaming. Birds everywhere. Just a beautiful place to be. We hope to come back again.

We stayed at the lodge for 3 nights as part of a Costa Rica wildlife holiday and we thoroughly enjoyed the friendly relaxed atmosphere as well as the excellent guided wildlife experiences out to Cano island and into the rainforest. There are large tables for group meals which was lovely as it gave us chance to talk to the other guests from around the world. Coffee is available all the time and the food was delicious. My only slight reservation were the steep steps up to the rooms. This meant the rooms had lovely views of the bay and wildlife in the tress though.

First, I must point out that we were there on the last part of our trip and it was when countries, including Costa Rica, were shutting borders down. That did affect, to some extent, the last part of our trip but mostly just around dinner conversation. I hope that once normalcy returns to the world, people frequent this establishment, and others, to help the travel industry get back to normalcy as well. I look forward to getting back to the world. Now to the review.... The location of this place is amazing and it is a beautiful setting. If you want to experience what it's like to be in a tropical rainforest while hearing the Pacific waves hit the shore and wildlife abounds around you, you should check it out. We stayed there for four nights. It's definitely a place we would go back to and there are a lot of positives but also some things you should be aware of. Positives: * The hotel is very comfortable lodging. Because we added a night, we ended up staying in two different rooms, standard and deluxe. The standard was very nice but lower down the hill and not as good breezes but bigger overall inside room. The deluxe was higher up with better breezes and provided more outside room (patio) with a hammock and chairs. While we loved the deluxe room, we would have been fine with Standard as well. * The team there is great. Everyone made us feel welcome and was so helpful. Great group of people who want you to experience the place and was always willing to answer any question or just have a conversation. And they love the setting too so that helped to enjoy it more. * It's beautiful. It's a very natural setting so if that's what you want, you'll like it. That includes wildlife sometimes at your doorstep but if you are going to Costa Rica, I'm thinking that's what you want. We had a monkey troop come through one sunset including jumping from our roof. It was amazing!! And that was only one of the many types of wildlife we saw on the property including tons of hummingbirds a few feet from our patio. * The food was great. This place takes care of your meals and that type of situation always concerns me because you are somewhat trapped. However, they did a great job. Everything was delicious including the cookies that they always have available to you. We ate quite well and, honestly, we are picky. * The activities are great. We went to Corcovado National Park (separate review about that), snorkeling, kayak ride and walked on several paths on our own including to the nearby beach. Caveats: * it's an interesting place to get to and from and you need to be mobile enough to deal with it. Whether you fly in or drive to the dock in Sierpe, you will arrive and leave by boat. The boat ride from Sierpe does have one point that can be harrowing when you go from the mangrove to the ocean. And the boat ride to or from the airport has a wet beach landing. All that being said, the boat captains and crew were fantastic! I always felt confident of and admired their skills and abilities. Just be aware of this and enjoy it as part of the adventure. * You're going to work those calf muscles. You will be walking up, and down, between your rooms and the main area. I think the nicer the room, the higher you are. It's a very nicely done walkway so very easy but we measured our nicer, and higher, room being about 100 steps and six floors from the bottom where the dining area was. We never felt like we could not make it or it was too much but you will want to avoid any unnecessary trips up and down. * It's hot and humid and no A/C. You're in a tropical rainforest so that's just the way it is. They have fans and they help but it's still hot. However, we loved listening to nature rather than air conditioning units so that was a sacrifice we were OK with for four nights. Rather than listening to A/C, we heard waves crashing at the beach down below and animals talking to each other in the jungle. Overall, as you see from my rating, it's a place we loved and would recommend. Just understand what you want and what it has to offer so you match. If you want a great and comfortable place in a very natural setting, go for it. Just stay in shape!

We loved the lodges and the view we had over the bay. It was great to bird watch on the balcony early in the morning. I saw Toucans, Hummingbirds and Scarlet Macaws to name but a few. The meals were good with fresh fish and vegetables daily. The trips though excellent with very informative guides were expensive and priced I think for the American market.
