I have visited Ecanto Lodge in February 2019 for a couple of days and it has been one of the most beautiful and interesting hotels I have ever lived in. Sabrina and Edu are more than kind to all visitors, trying everything to make your stay an unforgettable holiday. They helped me out with every problem and question I had, the meals were delicious, healthy and prepared with love and the room was always clean and comfortable. Beside that, Drake Bay is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Especially while staying at the Ecanto Lodge you can see, hear and feel the beauty of nature all day round. Next to parrots, Aras, Toucans and many other beautiful birds it's very possible to meet a raccoon, snakes or Coatis at the Ecanto Lodge itself! When going to the beach which is 100m away from the Lodge or going on a boat tour through the river next to it you won't meet any people. Howevery instead of that: monkeys, pelicans or a crocodile. I even met a wild Tapir once! And in the evening you can just enjoy the beautiful sunset from the terrace of your room while enjoying a meal in the restaurant of Edu and Sabrina. (both sunset-pictures are taken from the terrace of the Tapir-Room) All in all, Ecanto Lodge offers everything a nature-, animal- and adventure-loving person needs. The journey to Drake Bay was one of the best I have ever made!

Me and my partner arrived to Drake Bay after a one night stop in San Jose. We chose to travel by plane (rather than a 10 hour bus journey) which was an amazing experience in itself as we were 2 of only 5 passengers. This offered superb views of the beautiful country. As we landed, the scents of the rainforest hit us immediately. It was like landing in Jurassic Park! Edu met us at the "airport" and drove us to the farm (next door to the runway) via the "supermarket". Plane noise is not a problem though, there are only a couple of flights in and out of Drake every day. It is a surreal experience staying at the farm but one I highly recommend. The cabins are basic with no hot water and the shower is a pipe coming out of the wall. They don't offer a tremendous amount of privacy, as there are mosquito nets instead of windows (there are curtains you can draw) however all this is in keeping with the surroundings and they were kept immaculately clean throughout our stay. We enjoyed getting to know our neighbours at the cabins, sitting out in the evenings in the communal areas with other people from around the world made the experience even better! There are hammocks dotted around the farm with gorgeous views. The walk to the beach is adventurous across the runway, through the forest and over the rickety bridge but a very secluded area almost exclusive for the few guests stopping at the farm. If you turn left for 100-150 metres after the bridge then it's much easier to get in the sea and we enjoyed a swim in the warm water. Edu sorted out our day trips; Corcovado Rainforest and Cano Island Snorkelling (which we highly recommend). He took and collected us for both trips. The kitchen facilities are also basic but good fun improvising with what you can find in the local "supermarket". After Drake we stopped at numerous other destinations across Costa Rica. All felt more luxurious but none came close to the experience that we had at Rio Drake Farm. Bonus note - no critters in the room which is quite amazing considering you are literally stopping in the rainforest surrounded by wild life. Do bring plenty of sun cream and bug spray. Many thanks to Edu and his wonderful family for a memorable trip! Isobel and Matt x

This accommodation is a home stay with Edu and his young family living in wooden cabins in the jungle . The cabins themselves are basic but clean and comfortable , there is a book exchange , fridge for beers and the ability to cook a basic meal for yourselves in the communal area .Edu will cook with notice and the food was good here .There are lots of hammocks and a view over the lagoon you can swim in (crocodiles) to the pacific ocean you can walk tom in 10 minutes over a rickety bridge , but cant swim in due to rip tides. Nature abounds everywhere . The cabins only have a pipe out of the all as a shower dispensing cool water . As the area is very remote you need to be prepared to 'rough it' a little here . Bring lots of sunscreen (so hot and humid ) and bug repellent !. Edu will arrange any activities that you want to do , including day trips to the Corcovado national park by boat , an excellent day out . There are very limited facilities in this area , but I would thoroughly recommend a stay here for people with a taste for adventure and a love of nature .

It is a very basic but clean accommodation with friendly hosts. We especially liked the location close to the sea and the jungle with lots of birds and other wildlife. There is a possibility, which we highly recommend, to eat there. Every day the food is prepared fresh and served at your table and there are also wine, cold beer and soft drinks available. If you look for a hideaway and a basic point to explore the Coronado National Park, this is the place to be.

We loved our time at Rio Drake Farm. Edu and Sabrina and their beautiful girls were gracious and helpful and made our first days in Costa Rica unforgettable. The food was delicious, wildlife plentiful, and kindness abound! We highly recommend it.
