Cabinas Pura Vida was perfect for us. Beautiful outdoor covered common area and large kitchen for your use. And hammocks. Easy walk to all the stores and restaurants (lol-- it's a very small town); 5 minute walk down to the beach-- and from there you can go right to beaches with no people, or left to the sendero that goes along the jungle coast for many miles. And, if you walk up hill and follow the main road early in the morning, the birding is exceptional. My eBird list from one 1km walk up from the place is S63698317 (Trip Adv won't let me post the the Link!). AND they have a fruit feeder on the patio, with Scarlet-rumped Tanagers, Blue-gray Tanagers, Palm Tanagers, and even Green Honeycreepers 6 feet from your breakfast table. And great breakfast. And nice A/C rooms! And Norlin the mgr knows everyone in town and can answer all questions and connect you with all tours. Great for birders and anyone that needs a good Drake Bay base.

We stayed in Cabinas Pura Vida in total 3 nights and enjoyed it very much. The owner, Norlin, was from our arrival, taking great care of us, driving us from and to the beach where the transfr and tour boats arrive, booking our tours and transfers and helping with practicalities. He was also very transparent with the payment process when we arrived, ensuring that regardless of the currency selected (colones, dollars) we paid the agreed value. The property is located a 10 min walk from the waterfront, in a more quiet part of Drake Bay. It is very comfortably planned, with a very nice, clean and friendly kitchen/dining/relaxing area, where breakfast is served and where we relaxed after our tours or in the evening. The view from there is over the valley and surrounding hills. We enjoyed watching the birdlife around. The rooms are very clean, comfortable and have air conditioning which is almost indispensable. There is no fridge in the room but a big one available for guests in the dining area. There is plenty of shelves and hangers which helped us organizing / unpack our stuff. There is a separate area outside for drying the clothes which is also a plus. Overall a wonderful stay with great service and I would certainly stay there again. I recommend this place very much.

The stay was great, super friendly staff. We booked via Hotels.com and the owner, Norlyn, contacted us to ask if we wanted to book any tours and how we would get to Drake Bay, if we needed pick up. Norlyn also booked snorkeling for us which was awesome. The water was really clear and we saw multiple types of turtles, rays and much more. Breakfasts was excellent. Cereals, fresh fruit, juice and a hot side. Eggs and toast or pancakes. We have stayed at several hotels in the same price range during our three week trip to Costa Rica this was the best experience.

We spent 4 days here, the area and wildlife is great and the Corcovado is amazing. We really enjoyed our time in Drake Bay, but the accommodations however are just ok. The water is not recommended to drink for travelers in this area and the hotel does not provide any for their guests. Most other restaurants and hotels offer a water filling station, this one does not. Breakfast is not very good and most days was carb heavy with pancakes and French toast. I also thought we would be a little more off the beaten path, but we were right on a busy road. The bed and pillows are awful. I woke up in pain every morning feeling like I slept on the floor. There are no lamps or outlets by the bed which is not that terrible, but would of been nice to have. The staff is indifferent. No one was welcoming or overly friendly and charge too high of an exchange rate. DO NOT USE LOCAL CURRENCY HERE! They want US dollars and will change you more if you use colones. The tours are very expensive and while the park is amazing to visit I think it’s still a little steep at $95 per person. Cano island snorkeling was just okay and also too expensive at $85 per person for what it is. The water was really clear, but still didn’t see much. Pros: good location for access to town and restaurants and bars. A little up the hill from the beach, but not a bad walk at all. They do offer you rides to the beach if you book a tour. AC is great and the rooms were clean Overall, I wouldn’t stay here again, but for the price and having ac it was fine...
