Our recent stay at Las Cotingas was just the kind of vacation we were looking for. The hosts were fantastic, so welcoming. Odir is the consummate boat captain and seemed to know where the whales were, the tuna was biting, and the best snorkeling was on our two tours. The breakfast was delicious and we ate overlooking a stunning bay view. The lodge is nestled high above the town, and the walk up might not be for the faint of heart. We had a sea view room with a great porch, complete with a hammock, a table and two chairs, and that VIEW. The room was clean, comfortable and had air conditioning. The reviews we read said that you needed a flashlight to get around after dark. We had them, but never even turned them on. We enjoyed ourselves so much, we’re planning a return trip.

This property is located close to where the boat lands coming from Sierpe. The boat was late, so it was dark when we landed..... but the lodge staff were there to greet us and take our bags up the steep hill and the steps leading up to the lodge. Thanks...that was greatly appreciated. We had a sea view bungalow which had a bunk and comfortable double bed, small fridge, air-conditioning, good shower and great deck.... with hammock and a table and two chairs....and of course a great sea view. This was one of seven bungalows in the family run lodge...all set in a beautiful tropical garden. Breakfast was extra ($US8 - standard offerings)..served in the restaurant with a view. It was a pleasure to meet the family and they were all very friendly and helpful. We stayed three nights here...just the right amount of time for us allowing us a day to visit Corcovada National Park with our guide Alberto (ph/WhatsApp +506 8703 1862)...excellent day. There are a number of restaurants within walking distance. Don't expect five star...but for us, it was everything we expected (from the website and other reviews) and needed, for a comfortable stay. Highly recommended...except if you don't like small boats for transport!!

After Corcovado Hike we cashed in this beautiful friendly clean airconditioned place. Amazing view over Drake Bay. We came by car from Puerto Jimenez, nice drive, if you have a FWD it’s worth to go by car, it’s a beautiful drive. Had a nice snorkeling trip to Cano island. The corals weren’t the best we’ve seen but we still spotted lots of nice wildlife. A Bryde’s Whale, sharks, Turtles, flying fish, Dolphins, Boobies and more.

When arrived to the beach, we were greeted by the owner who kindly escorted us to our cabin after a quick registration. The cabin looked clean and tidy apart of being really spacious and the views from the lunch area were stunning. After lunch and some shopping, we returned to the cabins when, suddenly, all the lights along the street disappeared. This is something normal as Drake Bay is like an island and the electricity is affected eventually by strong wind and rain. Without delay, the owner of the hotel came down to our cabin to offer us some torches and candles. In addition, he offered himself in order to attend any other requests that might arise. Regarding the location, the property is not far from the town center (10 minutes max) and very close to the boat taxi pick up point (less than 5 minutes) Finally, in terms of price, I think 22 dollars per night is a good rate considering that this is Costa Rica.

They were so happy for the checkin because they wanted to sell us their tours. After the realised we weren't going to book tours with them, they were angry at us. Lady in reception was incredibly impolite and grumpy. Rooms are old and worn out. Water pressure is a chaos all the time No hot water Location not so good. No lights in the whole property after 18h so you need flashlights to get out. No breakfast, no kitchen and no restaurant. Most horrible wifi ever. Never worked. Cons Daily cleaning Water refill
