Paradise! Everyone was so helpful and friendly. All my anxious travel questions were answered quickly through WhatsApp before we got there and during our stay. Abel and another staff member (so sorry I didn’t get his name!) met us at the beach and helped carry our luggage up the stairs when we arrived. Abel then immediately poured us much needed cold water to cool off while we checked in!
Our view from the room was breathtaking (so breathtaking, my fiancé decided to propose on our balcony 🥰), the room was very comfortable and clean with A/C, and the breakfasts in the morning were delicious and fresh. The hotel overall was quiet and peaceful, and everyone who works there was so helpful and friendly.
Best of all, we booked 3 amazing tours through the hotel. -David was our guide on the night hike and was so amazing. He was extremely passionate and knowledgeable and we saw so many cool nocturnal creatures! Days later we’re still taking his advice to go into our adventures expecting nothing, and accepting what nature has to offer. ❤️ -Gabriella guided our Corcovado hike. She was incredible! She was patient, funny, also extremely knowledgeable, and we got to see a ton of amazing wildlife. -Abraham took us to Caño Island, and was also fantastic! He had so much energy and made us feel very taken care of the whole time. And again, his knowledge and passion for the ocean made the trip so memorable.
We can’t wait to come back again. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you! ❤️

It is a complex of cabins facing the sea. Located on different levels. To reach the reception you have to climb 115 steps. To the cabin I had to climb 130 steps. The only disadvantage, if there are people with reduced mobility, is a con. Otherwise it is an advantage because of the incredible view they have. Some cabins even have a kitchen. The people at the reception are very friendly. They close at 7:00 p.m., that must also be taken into account to see the arrival time. If you arrive by car the road is very ugly, only 4 x 4. Breakfast is your choice, now they charged 10 dollars, we chose 1 breakfast with omelet that comes with toast, butter and jam and infusion of your choice and the continental one with scrambled eggs , butter and jam toast, all with a plate of seasonal fruits.

The place is spectacular and the views make you forget all the steps of the climb😅. We stayed three nights. The service is very attentive, the cabins are very new and very clean and with air conditioning. And the food is very rich, not only worth breakfast, you can choose between several options, but also half board. Martin, the chef, delighted us every day with a different menu adapted to our tastes and needs because one of us is coeliac: chicken, tuna, ribs, golden, shrimp, lentil sopars, chickpeas and tomatoes).

This accommodation is top end hostel / budget hotel category. If you were paying those prices that would be fine, but Las Cotingas markets itself as something more, which invariably disappoints.
Positives: Great views from communal areas or sea view rooms; helpful staff who helped with bags from boat.
Negatives: Wrong room assigned - we had to wait 24h for the correct room to be available. First room was not clean - there were empty shampoo sachets and used soap bar in the shower. First room leaked - presumably from the upstairs plumbing as it didn’t correlate to rainfall. Shower water is tepid at best (not necessarily an issue if it’s hot!).
At the right price point and expectation a perfectly decent offering. At the current prices and lack of care and investment, not compelling. I’ve deliberately tried to keep pros and cons factual to help other travellers to the AMAZING Drake Bay…

The restaurant at Las Cotingas Ocean View Hotel is a true culinary paradise with a breathtaking ocean view. From the moment you arrive, the harmony between nature and the warm atmosphere creates an unforgettable experience. The food is simply delicious, made with fresh ingredients and a homemade touch that delights the palate. Every dish becomes even more enjoyable with the sea breeze and the stunning scenery. Plus, the service is exceptional, with friendly and attentive staff who make you feel welcome at all times. Without a doubt, this is the perfect place to relax, indulge, and enjoy a unique experience. Highly recommended!❤️

A great location looking over Drake Bay and lots of birds. It’s very expensive and yet lots of aspects seem to have been neglected. 100+ unlit stairs, no place to hang clothes etc, no hot shower, breakfast not included, very noisy, no water in minibar

Scorpion got in through the holes in the wall and stung our son in bed. There was zero support, they did not even offer to mend the room and fix the holes in the walls. When we complained via booking.com the property claimed we had never arrived, despite us having receipts, proof of bank transfer, photos and lots of whatsapp communication. We had taken the long track to get to Drake by car, this was going to be the highlight of our holiday and we had chosen a hotel rather than a tent as we wanted to avoid being bitten or stung, especially as we were travelling with three children. There were very few hotels available so we ended up leaving Osa early. Absolut shame. I travel a lot and have never come across something to rubbish before.

The staff is very friendly, helpful and courteous. We were able to book and pay for the Corcovado excursion directly through the accommodation. Everything was very well organized. The accommodation was as it was in the pictures and was clean. Breakfast can be reserved/ordered the evening before and is recommended. Local and very tasty. The view is beautiful and invites you to relax in the evening. The approach is very bumpy and must be driven in an SUV 4x4 car. The last 30km are bumpy, rocky and have lots of potholes. Be careful in the rain/it is rather difficult to drive. There is the option of taking the boat, then it is about a 3-minute walk to the accommodation.

Able was super helpful and reactive in his communication . The view from the upper patio is probably the nicest you can have around plus they are lots of birds flying around so it makes the perfect spot for drinks and breakfast. Long flight of stairs to get there so be beware if you have mobility issues or heavy luggage. Our family room/suite was large and clean with a very nice large deck including a tables, chairs and hammock. The only thing is that it is the lowest in elevation of all the room (meaning you are really close to the road and it is REALLY noisy especially early morning as most people drive by to get to the boat launch area on the beach. The view from that room is also partially obstructed by a lot of wires/poles compared to the other rooms (located at the deck level). Very close to the beach. We highly recommend overall

This hotel has to have one of the best views in the area. We had the superior rooms which looked out directly onto Drake bay. One of our rooms had a jacuzzi tub on the balcony.
Rooms were clean. Coffee and tea provided in the morning and some people ordered a light breakfast here.
With the ridge location, there are 110 steps up to reception level. Yes. I counted. There is also a trail path that meets with the stairs about 70% of the way up that is less arduous if it is dry. The location of the trail is past the stairs and around to the right.
We traveled lightly and this is necessary with the location. Hotel is only about 100 meters from the beach landing where the boats from Sierpe ferry people to and fro.
We would return here if back in the area.

When we showed up we didn’t have any issues with the reservation. Had an excellent stay and will be back again. Check out the Turtle Cafe by the water while you are there. Best food in Drake! Have a wonderful trip!!!
