Really relaxed place to start a jungle tour in Corcovado, diving around Cano Island or a variety of other possibilities. Very helpful and super friendly staff! Clean rooms (basic) but all you need is there. Good breakfast and lovely Grill restaurant on the premises called Claudio’s Grill.
I don't have much good to say about this hostel, except it was in our budget. Rooms were old and had no charm. Beds and linens were old and worn out as well. No hot water, and wi-fi only worked in front of the office. From the beach, you go up to the top of the hill, and where the road splits, you keep left, down the hill about 150 meters. It is on the left. There is a highly acclaimed restaurant there, but it seemed expensive for Drake Bay. There are not too many options though. Management was very businesslike, and while not rude, I would not call anyone there very friendly. Would not stay again.
We stayed at the shared bathroom cabinas which were cleaner than expected although the bed was not comfortable and the showers didn't have hot water. Basic place for a quick stay, I've seen worse. I understand that not every hotel is generous enough to offer tea/coffee to the guests, but to charge C1000 per cup of mediocre coffee in a country famous for its plentiful great coffee...?! (The usual charge we came across in Costa Rica ranged from 500-700). To overcharge for their mediocre food at the restaurant on site is one thing, at least they have an excuse of a remote location, lack of ingredients or whatever, but coffee..? Very naughty. We asked for some advice with onward journey. The younger woman with dreadlocks assured us that the info we're searching for is unknown to anybody and there is no website nor phone number we could use. Basically told us good luck. An hour later we asked the other lady with glasses the same question and to our surprise she gave us all the info we needed. It's all in the can-do attitude. …
The people at this hostel are super nice and were really friendly and helpful. We've never stayed at a hostel before so I'm just gonna share my pro's and con's. Pro's: very nice staff, spacious room, close to the beach, clean sheets, comfy matress and a nice restaurants inside the property. Con's: our room shared a wall with the restaurant so it was quite noisy and we felt smoke coming from the "stove". The towels were old and raggy and although there was hot water, it kept switching back to cold so we had to call the staff to fix it. Overall our one night stay was fine.
Budget friendly, great facility, clean restrooms and bath. Good for stay if you are on budget. The hostel also helps you book tours while you are in Drake. Have insect/bug repellent on hand - since it is tropical climate, mosquito bites are inevitable. Mosquito net protection and a fan is provided in the room. overall, this place is a great value for your buck.
