Detailed Reviews
My ten days at Ocean Forest eco lodge was a dream come true, to be within the primary forest beautiful tropical gardens and an isolated ocean bay, on a Yoga Retreat, able to join in adventures experiencing four different kinds of monkeys, agoutis, peccaries, boa constrictor anteater, splendid birds, , and their inspiring music of their calls, waking me each morning, then to wander thru the gardens feasting my eyes to flowers, birds and butterflies, mysterious delicious fragrances floating thru the air, onto the yoga pavillion, so soothing to move thru our poses in the open air tropical wood built three story haven, then to the first of three amazing nourishing meals, we were catered to everyones dietary needs with lovely local friuts and vegetables and fish. My room was my retreat with a wooden carved balcony overlooking the ocean a hammock waiting for my siesta. In the cool of the evening I would swim in the bay looking out over Cana Island where we boated to go snorkeling, and the endless array of sunsets before retiring to our dinner with gracious company of the very kind staff serving us with sincere attention. Jonathon the ethnobotanist owner took us on walks thru his gardens explaining in detail how the plants are used medicinally and ornamental. Can I say more?? I could go on...rain thunderstorms to excite your senses, then sparkeling sun. on the leaves coconuts flowers of the huge trees.. Go! its a paradise!

This place is just amazing! In the middle of the rainforest, 2 minutes from a grandious beach, something like paradise on earth! The rooms are spacious and comfortable, the food very natural, the staff very careing and gentle, flexible in making your stay as great as possible. You wake up on a monkey dance, or on birds singing arround or waves breaking on the beach, what do you want more? Trees, bushes, flowers everywhere arround you! The beach is huge sandy beach, seems like it belongs to property, most of the time you will be alone there or with 2-3 other persons. The water is just to spend a lot of time in it! I have loved every single moment, will certainly come back and I highly recommend this place!

Have you ever sat working on your laptop through an afternoon, surrounded by wild monkeys leaping through trees above you and toucans squabbling over the abundant fruit growing overhead?
On the one hand it’s a little distracting. My work is fascinating, but not nearly as captivating as watching rare wildlife going about its rainforest business as though you’re not even there.
On the other, it’s my own fault for not just putting work away and relaxing in a truly extraordinary environment.
Ocean Forest sits on one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve visited. It’s remote, so you get to enjoy it pretty much entirely to yourself.
The resort itself is lovely. It’s just the right kind of rustic to blend perfectly into the lush environment; the magnificent, largely edible garden, is apparently converted from cattle pasture but feels like it’s been there forever. I’d gladly forego 5-star luxury for the realness of this paradise.
I didn’t stay long enough to get to take advantage of the various experiences on offer (yoga, learning about Costa Rican plants and their uses - though I did visit the nursery where numerous varieties of cacao are being cultivated for a permaculture garden that’s in development), but I did get to enjoy the delicious food and outstanding hospitality of host Jonathon and his team.
Very highly recommended!

Staying at Ocean Forest Ecolodge Retreat is like getting a wonderful relaxing massage the whole time. The food is delisciously fresh and healthy, but also very nourishing. Everybody working here has a big heart and a big smile. A very safe swimming and snorkeling beach is just a 15 Minutes walk away, but you can also jump in right in front of the Ecolodge, and watch the sunset every night. The most comfortable beds of CR (no joke)! What a profound and inspiring connection with nature. I will be back soon!

Ocean forest ecolodge is situated at a most wonderful location, with astonishing views on the ocean and a Sandy palm beach. From here you can make the most beautiful walks near the coastline, under the trees, spotting capuchin monkeys, macaws and kaaimans!
From here, you can make unforgettable tours, nicely arranged by the host, eg to Corcovado and Canó island.
The ecolodge was however not offering the level of comfort we expected, eg rooms cannot be locked, towels replaced every 2nd day. The garden and buildings are not maintained as showed on the pictures, although everything was very clean.

We could not have been happier with Ocean Forest. From the beginning, Dahlia was super helpful walking us through everything—including providing a packing list and setting up everything to get there. She was very detail-oriented and we felt confident taking the leap to go somewhere this remote based on our connection with her and her guidance throughout. When we arrived we could not believe our luck! 15 days in paradise. The food was simple and lovely, our cabin had the best view of the ocean, and we felt so welcomed by the amazing Rosie and Zamboni, volunteers at OF, and Victor, the groundskeeper. Rosie offered us yoga in the mornings or evenings! I highly recommend their activities—we toured Corcovado and checked out Cocoterra, their permaculture project, which turned out to be a tour through the jungle to a waterfall as well. Well worth it! Would recommend this place to anyone seeking respite in nature and recharge. Exceeded my expectations!

Ocean Forest Ecolodge is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. From the moment I walked through the front gate from the beach, I knew I was in a special place. The cabins and lodge are in a beautiful rainforest. The walking paths are lined with various fruit trees, flowers and medicinal plants. My husband and I were lucky to be able to stay in one of the cabins overlooking the ocean. It was elegant, yet simple and natural. Every evening a group of the monkeys came into the trees around the cabin to play and eat, and at night we could hear the sound of the ocean. There are many activities offered to visitors, but we only went on one trip by boat away from the lodge to Corcovado National Park, which was great. But what we really enjoyed was going on day hikes from the lodge and swimming in the ocean which was very gentle.
I think the other thing that makes this such a wonderful place is the people who live there and care for the lodge and the land. Every person we met was so kind, genuine and seemed to take great joy in sharing this place with us.
Finally, I have to mention the food. The meals are obviously prepared with care -- so delicious and healthy!
I loved this lodge and the rainforest. There is an indescribable feeling there- beyond the outward beauty– which is what I will remember most.

A very authentic and clean lodge located right on the Pacific Ocean.
The Corcovado National Park is a few kilometers away, but the animals don't know where the boundaries are, so you wake up in the middle of a wonderful animal and plant world.
Friendly staff! Tip for travelers with children: find out in advance what food and drinks are available for children.

Ocean Forest Eco Lodge,
A seven hour drive west and then south from the city of San Jose to La Perla Del Sur, followed by a boat trip through the mangroves of the Sierpe River to the pacific ocean, and finally to the small beach town of Rincon De San Josecito where the Ocean Forest Eco Lodge is located on the Osa Peninsula.
This place is a gem on the edge of the ocean , with tranquil gardens, lodge cabins and open air dining, all surrounding a three story pagoda for activity practice or general relaxation. The staff are wonderful, the food is fresh and nourishing, and the feeling is laid back and at the same time energizing. You are completely immersed in nature, rich in diversity, and always active in every way imaginable.
The ocean water is so warm and clear, and abundant with marine life. The forest interior is home to various species of mammals, reptiles, amphibians and beautiful tropical birds. I felt very at peace during my stay and hope to visit again in the future. The trip was simply amazing and I recommend it to anyone looking to feel invigorated by their surroundings.

I am a long time yoga teacher and retreat leader from Oregon. I just led my first retreat at Ocean Forest and it was a truly wonderful, magical, and nourishing experience! To be off the grid and immersed in the wild life of the rainforest was a dream come true. I brought my two kids and a group of 10 retreaters. We had the retreat/nature adventure of a lifetime!
The yoga space of the Lapa Lapa Lodge is really unique and beautiful. We heard monkeys and macaws as we practiced.
We went on a Corcovado tour and saw so many animals and birds. We had monkeys and scarlet macaws around the retreat center regularly. We saw toucans turtles and dolphins! The near by playa Josecito was perfect for swimming and floating. The snorkeling trip was also fantastic. Spectacular sunsets. The staff was so kind and attentive. The food was delicious and nutritious obviously made fresh with love and care.
Ocean Forest is a nature lovers dream come true. I hope to return with another group soon!
