Danyasa is simply amazing. The place itself is a welcoming sanctuary oasis. You really feel like you are in the jungle. The rooms are exactly as pictured on the website although you really forget that you are in a shipping container! The outdoor shower is so refreshing and clean. The breakfast served daily is fresh, local and nourishing. The yoga shala is open air, clean and beautiful with a lovely breeze from the ocean. Quiet hours from 10pm-8am are honored by all guests. The pool is so fun and a nice respite from the hot Costa Rican sun. Cute little areas around the grounds to sit and relax. Occasionally some noise from the town in the evenings but to be expected and nothing that kept us up at night. Highly recommend staying here.

I fell completely in love with this little oasis of joy, magical vibes, and vibrant community offering high-quality yoga classes with outstanding instructors!

From the moment I stepped in through the concierge and lovely boutique front entrance and walked through the lush corridors adorned with plants, meditative sculptures, and a fountain, I knew I had made a perfect choice. The location might be near the beach, however, don't be surprised if you see wildlife here! Cute lizards and geckos will be sure to delight and welcome you during your stay :-)

The hotel cat, Ruby, and the hotel dog, Yoda, were also welcome companions during this adventure.

Paola and Isamar were very warm, delightful hosts, and always happy to chat and offer tips to enjoy the local area.

I loved soaking and floating on the donut float in the pool and enjoyed the waterfall. The shipping container room was so cozy, and I loved my balcony where I could light a candle in the evening. The dining area was also very cozy and I loved all the neat travelers I had nice conversations with. The highlight was definitely the yoga classes in the evening, where you could hear the rainfall and thunder, which only enhanced the experience!

I can't wait to visit again, thank you for creating this magical place 💜

This place is pura vida! Lots of available yoga classes and a great location central to many things on the pacific coast make this an excellent option for solo travelers who want to meet other travelers and connect with themselves and their yoga practice. The food they offer is excellent and the general vibe is welcoming and fun. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a unique visit to costa rica.
It was also very affordable and the people working there took an active interest in my enjoyment, including making covid testing and transport easier.

I hosted a Retreat for Aerial Yoga and Vinyasa The Yoga at Danyasa May 6 through the 13th 2023. I have hosted dozens of retreats worldwide, and I have never had the issues that I had here. I have made efforts to communicate with the owners and management and my last email was not even responded to.

My entire experience working with Danyasa from start to finish, was not a positive one. Communication was not wonderful prior to coming to the retreat. The contract that they use for retreat, leaders heavily weighs in the favor of Danyasa Retreat Center. I would highly recommend seeking alternative retreat accommodations.

From the moment that we arrived at the airport, we had a very aggressive bagger that insisted that we tip them more than what we wanted to. We had some difficulty communicating with the driver at the onset and created a bad vibe right away. The issues continued daily.

The retreat center is obviously unaware of the things that are required for an Aerial Yoga Retreat. Upon arrival the studio was not properly setup . The worst part of their Ariel system was at the hammocks were disgusting. And unsanitary. They smelled like mildew and mold, and should never be used with humans in them. They did not clean them or wash them while we were there, so the hammocks stayed extremely smelly the entire time. Both unhygienic and absolutely unacceptable. It is also extremely hot in this location with no air-conditioning or wind flow in the studio so it is a terrible match for this style of yoga. Upon being advised by their staff, we scheduled our aerial classes for 4 PM and it was extremely hot at that time and half the studio was in the sun light. A complete lack of awareness and understanding on the staff and owners part.

The meals were mediocre at best, we had a few very good meals but the rest were lacking. The breakfast was not very satisfying and rarely had any variety. My Retreat attendees complained about the food, and by day three everyone was sick from foodborne contaminant. After speaking with the owners, no one took any responsibility for this problem. The amount that they charge for food for the week is very high, compared to what you are receiving. One morning, they served a bread bowl that was full of flies.

During our stay, two of the air conditions malfunctioned, and our clients had to be moved rooms.

Our rooms were not cleaned properly in the last few days that we were there, they claim that it was a communication error. They seem to be something deeper going on with the cleaning and that situation, but we could not get to the bottom of it. And a place that is this hot and you’re unable to put toilet paper in the toilet, daily cleaning is absolutely necessary.

If your retreat leader, looking for a Retreat Center, I would highly recommend you look somewhere else.

Response from Brendan Jaffer-Thom, Owner at Danyasa Eco-Retreat
Responded Dec 13, 2023
Thank you for your detailed, if not entirely honest, review. The word dishonest, which you used incorrectly, basically means "intended to mislead or cheat ." You failed to mention the essential context: before giving us a 1-star review, you asked to host another retreat with us! We turned you down based on our experience with you, even knowing you would probably act out and leave us a bad review. We realize we cannot host retreat facilitators who can't draw participants. So we responded that hosting you again didn't feel like a good fit. We were polite. You then wrote demanding that we should assume some of your losses. We found your tone rude and your request unreasonable, so we stopped responding. When facilitators can't draw enough people, they lose money, and the whole experience can turn sour for everyone involved. We are in no way responsible for you losing $13,000, and we were not dishonest with you about your contract, the price, how the facility rental works, or anything else. We laid everything out clearly, and you agreed to it willingly. We didn't trick you or force you into the agreement. You claim our contract "heavily favors us," yet you give no support for this claim. Our contract terms are favorable to all parties, and we love it when retreats do well. Most of our retreat leaders make significantly more than we do on their retreats. Further, we went above and beyond to try to help you. We changed our agreement for you! You booked for three weeks. When your second payment installation was due, you asked to cancel two of the three weeks because you had no participants! Small businesses like ours suffer when planned-on payments don't materialize. And, even though you had blocked our calendars and prevented other rentals, we allowed you to cancel two of your three reserved weeks. To suggest that we were responsible for your losing money is dishonest (intended to mislead) on your part. You lost your money because you didn't draw close to enough people to make your retreat viable. Beyond the fact that you couldn't fill your retreat, you let your financial loss sour your attitude and passed that sourness on to us, our team, and even your guests! You complained about the people of Costa Rica (starting from when you got off the plane at the airport), the wildlife and nature in Costa Rica, the climate in Costa Rica, the prices in Costa Rica compared to countries with lower living standards, and just about everything else you could think of. Our staff were adamant that we didn't allow you to come back! We are excited to welcome numerous returning retreats this year, including several aerial retreats. Most retreats profit well at our place while having a great time. We have aerial retreats coming back for the fourth time! We are proud of the quality of our product, our facilities, our kitchen, and the customer service we provide to retreat facilitators and their participants. I will address the topics brought up in your review. Your claim that the aerial rigs were unhygienic is fictional. We wash the hammocks after each retreat and dry and store them in a climate-controlled environment. Considering one of your participants showed up with gastroenteritis, it’s likely that the stomach bug that affected some of your participants began there, not in our kitchen. Not everyone got sick. I ate the food all week but didn't come in close contact with your retreat attendees, and I didn't get sick. Our staff are trained in food handling as per the local health code. Fruit flies flying around during breakfast one day is vastly different than the bread being full of flies. Yet another dishonest attempt on your part intended to mislead. Our chefs are epic and make excellent food! We love them and their food. What could have happened if you had fewer empty rooms to move people to when an AC gave problems isn't pertinent to your situation. However, if we were hosting a full retreat, we always have spare ACs in storage, and our maintenance team is trained and licensed AC technicians and can change an AC in a couple of hours. We had to do this for the retreat of 37 people we hosted last week, and we have already purchased a new backup AC! I'm not saying we can't always strive to improve. Since it seems you couldn't manage to hang up the "clean my room" sign nor discuss with one of our four cleaning staff, our two maintenance staff, or our two live-on-site 24-hour concierges to have your room cleaned, we will explore how to better fool-proof our systems to cover such an unlikely possibility in the future. You might better serve yourself and others if you focus your energy on your business and don't waste your, our, and others' time writing spiteful reviews. We wish you the best of luck.

My wife and I stayed here in July 2021 for a week. It's on the small main street in what could be called downtown Dominical and a 5 min walk to the beach. We wanted a place to recharge. The place was beautiful and serene. My wife took yoga classes each day and I hung out by the pool. There is lots to do nearby and some great restaurants (especially Fuego next door and Phat Noodle up the street). We loved the included organic breakfasts each morning and really enjoyed the people we met while staying there. Some of our favorite outings were hiking to Nauyuca falls (epic swim below the falls!), scuba diving at Cano Island, and kayaking through the mangroves. We loved our shipping container rooms but be aware the queen size rooms are quite small. Our hosts Paula and Isamar were always helpful and friendly.

We cannot say enough about how comfortable safe clean majestic and cozy our stay was at Danyasa Eco retreat. We are young family with two small children and felt completely safe and taken care of during our entire trip. The rooms are comfortable clean and bright everything you need and perfect communal lounge areas to spread out. In combination with the daily yoga classes and the delicious local breakfast options of fresh fruit or the local plate made this one of our best vacations ever. Oh and the lovely staff who were available seemingly at all hours to help with even the smallest of needs. We had a blast. Short walk to the ocean close to all the restaurants.

Costa Rican hospitality at its finest in Dominical. I was arriving late to my check in and nonetheless, the host at Danyasa checked in on me and was super kind to my every need despite the late arrival. Parking (behind/adjacent to grounds) is safe, free, and easy. The room was clean, and spacious for myself as a solo travel with great A/C. The outdoor shower (attached to the room and with a privacy fence) was a nice touch. I took a yoga class the morning of my checkout and it was fantastic. I am a beginner/intermediate and this was good for all levels, with a very kind and welcoming instructor. The yoga studio was so nice I stopped by on my way back through town on a separate day. Nothing super fancy here, but you get what you pay for 100% with a tasty breakfast, kind reception, and clean, cool room.

This was the first time that Danyasa was used for hosting 24 women with the school. The accommodations were a tight fit and there were three people to a room or should I say container. We had a private chef cooking vegan meal so that was exceptional. We did run out of food a few times. Laundry is an additional fee. The location is in the middle of the town and it is extremely noisy and there was construction happening all over the place the entire time of our stay. The yoga shala is exceptional and is a great place for yoga classes. The staff were extremely helpful with everything we needed to do for excursions, getting to the airport and organizing all of our needs. It was my first time to Costa Rica and my first time to Danyasa so I would definitely say it’s worth a stay!

For my first time in Dominical, I could not have had a more welcoming and comfortable experience at Danyasa. I worked remotely from there and had great wifi connection the whole time. I brought my surfboard along, and the three-minute walk to the beach was perfect to catch some waves in the afternoon. Breakfast was so delicious and hearty, it included a hot typical Costa Rican option as well as a soaked oats with fruit option. The beds were extremely comfortable and I loved the fact that the rooms are made of upcycled shipping containers! The grounds, pool, and yoga studio are well maintained, such a relaxing environment. And to top it all off, the yoga classes were the best I’ve ever experienced before. The ladies that work there, especially Kassia, Ata, Paula, went above and beyond to make me feel at home. The women in the kitchen were super sweet as well. I will for sure be returning back to Danyasa anytime I am in Dominical!

I spent 5 days at Danyasa and enjoyed it very much. The shipping container rooms are cozy and compact but sufficient for one person for 5 days. They were very comfortable and clean. The rest of the resort was very nice with 2 lounges and a lovely little swimming pool. Free tea and coffee all day. I attended a daily yoga class and wandered around the area. Bus stop nearby as I had no car. Very close to the beach and a number of nice restaurants. The staff team were helpful and very friendly.

I would highly recommend and would return.

Hi, We get all ages at our hotel, but I would guess the average age to be around 30. We don't allow children under the age of 12.
