Hacienda Baru has much to offer. The grounds are very nice and spacious. This property has a little bit of everything. The trails are amazing and great for any level of hiker. All the information markers were a nice touch on the trails. Easy access to a beautiful beach. The pool and the hammock area is a quiet and serene... More

A great place for people interested in tropical ecology with many signs on the property describing the plants and animals. Unfortunately, we did not have time to walk all of the trails but the ones we did were well marked and in primary rainforest. The older cabins are a little dated but roomy and comfortable. With 3 bedrooms they would... More

Hacienda Baru is an exceptional place to stay! I was there for 2 weeks straight, and even though the cabins do not have A/Cs or TVs, it was a unforgettable stay! It has taught me that a person can live a simple life without any fancy gadgets, and to truly appreciate nature. Not only that, but the staff was outstanding!... More

My stay at Hacienda Baru was the best experience that I could've had. Everything - from the location to the staff, to the cute little cabins - made the Costa Rican experience much more enjoyable. The staff always had a smile on their face while working and always did their best to make you feel welcome and at home. The... More

Much as we liked the grounds and nearby trails around Hacienda Baru, the highlight of our 3 week stay in Costa Rica was the "Night in the Jungle" tour with Carlos. Within the first ten minutes of our hike we learned the value of being with a guide and saw more than we'd seen all morning walking around on our... More

We had a very enjoyable stay at Hacienda Baru. The cabin was very roomy, with well equipped kitchen, enormous bed and big umbrellas :-). There were lots of things to see in garden area - colourful birds and alive with butterflies, lizards and iguanas. The restaurant had good food with huge portions, constant internet and bird spotting. We didn't take... More

We stayed four nights here, but could have stayed much longer. Usually doing a lot of day trips; here we spent our time right out of the door of cabin. Don't expect the ultimate luxury in the cabin, but a lot of nature experience outside. There are lot of birds right outside your front door as well as agoutis, iguanas... More

A beautiful family place, with a luxuriant garden, full of flowers, birds and butterflies. Rooms were clean and spacious, restaurant was fine (by Costa Rica standards). Swimming pool was big compared to some hotels. But the big thing was not the hotel itself but its surroundings. First of all the beach (5 min walk): pristine, untouched: just imagine miles of... We rented an economy cabin which had 3 bedrooms (2 double, 1 single), living-room, bathroom, kitchen and outdoor sitting area with mosquito net as well as a large "private" garden. It was comfortable but not at all luxurious, but very peaceful and private. The pool area was wonderful apart from the very hot water so it wasn't that great for... More

This reserves e is abduty amaxi g. It's not on the main tourist trail which adds to its appeal but the forest and bird life are as good as any. We saw oodles of birds we'd not seen previously despite visiting many reserves. And though we didn't overnight there, the bungalows, pool, empty beach and general set up looked appealing.... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The lodge is located at the entrance to Hacienda Baru National Wildlife Refuge which protects 330 hectares (815 acres) of tropical forest, wetlands, mangrove and 3 kilometers of pristine Baru Beach. The refuge offers seven kilometers of well marked nature trails and a bird watching tower for a modest entrance fee. Guided tours with sharp-eyed local guides include two different types of canopy tours, five hiking tours, a camping tour and three bird watching tours. Hacienda Baru National Wildlife Refuge & Lodge is situated on Costa Rica's Southern Pacific Coast. This is a region of distinct natural beauty where forest covered mountains rise up from the dramatic Pacific coastline. The village of Dominical is just 3 km from Hacienda Baru located. Hacienda Baru Ecolodge's bungalow style cabins are large and roomy. Each one has two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with one double and one twin bed. Each bungalow has a bathroom with hot water shower, living room, porch, and kitchenette. For your convenience, they come equipped with fridge, coffee maker, hot plate and fans in all the rooms. They are ideal for families. In addition to the cabins, Hacienda Baru Ecolodge is now offering six new Pool View Guest Rooms. Each of these superior units has a large bathroom, a porch and ample space for beds and other furniture. Each will normally have a king size bed and a twin bed , but they can be equipped with up to four twin beds. Each has a frige and coffee maker as well. The attractive tile roofing is made from recycled plastic bags. A well ventilated design, insulation between the roofing and the polished teak ceiling, and overhead fans all insure cool comfort for our guests. All of the teak and gmelina wood used in the construction came from Hacienda Baru's own plantations. The wood for the pine beams and cypress furniture all came from plantations as well. Not a single piece of the wood used came from a natural forest. Solar heaters provide plenty of hot water for the bathrooms. The outside walls are slate and polished teak. The new guest rooms are conveniently located right in front of our new swimming pool. Our breezy open air restaurant allows you to observe the gardens and natural surroundings as you dine. We have five private ranchos for guests that want an intimate setting perhaps for a romantic candlelight dinner or a special family meal. Our menu is primarily very tasty typical Costa Rican food, but we do offer a variety of dishes for those who either don't like or want a break from rice and beans. We offer a selection Costa Rican fruit drinks known as FRESCOS meaning refreshing, soft drinks, a selection of Costa Rican beer, you must have heard of Imperial, wines and other licors. The swimming pool at Hacienda Baru Lodge is disinfected with ozone produced by an ozone generator which injects a constant flow of this eco-friendly gas into the water. This system of disinfection allows us to maintain a very low concentration of chlorine in the pool. The chlorine level is so slight that it is imperceptible to pool users. The swimming pool is open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Guests from both the cabins and guest rooms are welcome to use the pool during these hours. Bird Watching, Canopy Exploration and Ecological Tours are our specialty. Our bilingual grass roots naturalist guides will help you discover the wonders of the tropical rainforest, such as leaf cutter ants, the sleepy sloths and the nesting site of the Common Pootoo. On our tours you can experience everything from the Rainforest Canopy to Mangrove Swamps or the Jungle at Night. ... more   less
