We had a truly unforgettable week at Kalon. The surf, the people, and the accommodations made for one of the best trips of my life. Freddy and Geiner were the best coaches and made me laugh everyday! I gained confidence that I never had on a board before. The expert coaching and program were top notch. Nathalie covered every detail and briefed us nightly on what we could expect the next day. Jacqui was my favorite! She took us to a local farm on our rest day. Her kind spirit and knowledge of the flora and fauna were so special. The couple who ran the farm let us milk cows, make farmers cheese and opened their home to us. This was a special trip I will never forget. The cherry on top was the amazing friends we met in our week at Kalon. I cannot wait to go back - like the other reviewers, I am eager to book my next surf trip!

Property's Favorite Review
This was my 4th time at Kalon, and I can honestly say it never disappoints. There was no concern for us about the safety issues involving covid. Everyone at the airport was wearing a mask. At no time did we feel like there was an problem at the airport or hotel, or at the camp. The hospitality and vibe of this place is wonderful. As soon as you arrive you are greeted like an old friend. EVERYONE there is incredible. The surf instructors are the best...thank you Andres for being so patient and genuinely excited when I finally caught that green wave! Jaynors smile and optimism every morning was like sunshine. Same for Jackie. Natalie is one of the hardest workers I have ever seen, she is always available to make sure your questions are answered and that you get what you need. The food is divine. You sure don't go hungry...Andres and Tony make the most wonderful meals and are very accommodating for dietary issues and likes/dislikes. I'd also like to say you always feel safe at Kalon. The security guards that work at night are always around. The ladies that work early in the morning during breakfast and help clean the rooms are the nicest and most pleasant women. You can't help but be happy when you see them first thing in the morning. Speaking of the rooms...they are large and comfortable. The beds and pillows are very comfortable, which is a huge issue for me when I travel. The bathroom is spacious with a great shower. All rooms have ocean views. I've stayed in several different ones and think they are all wonderful. If you don't feel like you are getting enough exercise you can always have them drop you off at the bottom of the hill after surfing and walk up (takes about an hour). If you are considering going here...do not hesitate. As soon as we got back we booked for next year. Yes, it's that good. And I usually don't like to go to the same place more than once or twice. If your goal is to learn to surf, this is the place. If you want to get better...same thing.

You know it’s a good trip when you start planning for another surfing trip as soon as you get back. I went to kalon with three girls. We were beginners and felt so welcomed by the staff. We were taken care and encouraged to take it as far as we want to. I can’t say enough good things of the staff. The coaches Andres, Freddy and Janar made me felt save chasing green waves. They accommodated every skill level. Nathalie and Jackie were on top of it with our schedules. I wish I could have Angie’s deep massage tissue everyday. Of course can’t forget chef Andres and Tony making everything from scratch for us. I love that every staff is involved in multiple aspects of the trip. I feel truly part of family at the end of the trip. I also made some awesome new friends. MUCHAS GRACIAS POR TODO

My wife and I booked this trip originally for end March 2020, but unfortunately it was delayed a year after Costa Rica shut their boarders due to Covid 19. It was definitely worth the wait. Kalon provides the perfect balance between an active surf trip to a relaxing resort feel. Prepare to make new friends and gain a new hobby if you have never surfed before. The instruction including post session video review will bring you from kook to competent, while helping more advanced surfers refine their technique. The service is top notch and you can tell they spare no expense in any aspect with Firewire surfboards, Land Cruisers to get to and from the beach, delicious meals both at the house and while surfing at the beach, and meticulously cleaning the resort so it is always spotless. Nathalie did an excellent job coordinating everyone's logistics so you really don't have to think at all and can focus on relaxing and surfing. Feel safe traveling in the time of Covid at Kalon. The entire resort is open air and the only time you would come into close quarter contact is in the car, but masks and open windows will keep you safe. They also helped us arrange our Covid tests to return home, even though we stayed another week in other parts of the country after Kalon. Overall, this was an amazing trip and we will for sure be visiting again sometime in the near future.

Fabulous surf instruction on beginner to intermediate waves in luxury accommodations and pampered handling. Just bring board shorts, t-shirts, flip flops, and a desire to surf. All meals and plenty of snacks prepared by excellent culinary team able to adjust for any dietary requirements. I went with my 14yr old son, our group was composed of cool people all from the states with varying levels of surfing experience. Staff; Nathaile coordinated our day to day, explaining in patient detail everything we needed to know for our arrival, stay, and departure, she is amazing! Tony(chef) impressed with every three course dinner. Andres(chef), explained the dishes and gave tips on how some of the favorite dishes were prepared. Hazel got us started right with breakfast so we had the energy to paddle in the ocean for four hours. Geiner picked us up from the airport and was integral in showing us the Kalon method for learning to surf and was also a super fun, positive energy. Freddy will put a smile on anyone’s face anytime of the day, another surf instructor passionate about getting you to ride waves. Jackie was especially helpful with surf instruction as well as educating us on the beauty of Costa Rica and leading yoga class. Andreas(surf instructor) played photographer most of the time, probably because he’s very good at it but is also an amazing surfer, instructor, video analysis breakdown, yoga instructor, he seems to do it all. They all seem to do it all and very well. Angie(masseuse) rubs away the stress of life before Kalon and relaxes the body after a long day of surfing. Only complaint is that it is over too soon, I want at least a month!
