What an amazing spot- a world class surf break right in front, and under 20minutes to get to many other uncrowded surf spots. and WOW, Jason and Chook are fun, personable hosts- who make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. They have great staff, always smiling and happy to help with anything you need. chook and the giggling kitchen girls will keep you well feed with the best food in the area, I tried many new Indonesian dishes, but they are also happy to accommodate any dietary or food style requests. Jason will have you on the karaoke before you know it with the coldest beers after a hot day in the Sumatran sun- watching stunning sunsets day, after day- by the pool, which overlooks the beach. Bliss. The rooms are well maintained with aircon, flushing toilets and large bathrooms with local wall art. They helped with all requests, transport, photos, to dos in the area, scooter hire etc. Atm & shops with basic snacks 5 minutes walk away. I know this will be a regular holiday spot now, it really does have it all, and exceeded expectations- the value, service & location are unbeatable!…
A fantastic experience. Damai sits in front of a world class surf break and caters for purists who enjoy authentic hospitality and the opportunity travel provides - new friendships, experiences and genuine good times. Jason, Dedi and the team are right on point with their gaff. Good times indeed.
Well there is no closer you can stay to a world class break. Rippa Spot Jas and congratulations for putting together such a great team. Thank you Dedi for being the most knowledgeable, laidback, humorous and generous guide. Here’s a fella who’s warmly able to spend all day with us (taking photos and driving us anywhere we wanted) whilst he had a newborn three week old at home. Many thanks mate. So Dami ? It’s the only place with villas far enough away from the road to be able to get a good sleep, any time of the day. And yet it’s the one place that faces directly at THE Break, Ukung Bocur. Walk straight out the front and within 30 seconds you are wading across the reef to paddle out. The Bintangs are plentiful and always frosty and the view is killa. What more could you ask for ? Food ? Well no one goes hungry here. Three solid, and really tasty meals every day, all included in the daily price. Value plus. The rooms ? Well the local power supply could be a little better and Jason would be able to run the AC more, but to be honest it was pretty hot when we were there and we could sleep any time of the day with the AC/ power rationing that Jason has going - very well managed Jas. Ceiling fans and mozzy nets were first grade. But the vibe of your place Jas is the best. We had all sorts of other crew come and go in our two weeks but every night (and day) were just so relaxed and casual. You really have got a very unique setup Jas, spot on mate. We’re coming back…
Well super simple.. Solo chick travelling for the surf and I felt so well taken care of with this bunch! Thankyou so much jase and Dedi.. and all the awesome other guests staying!!!! It’s like a lucky dip haha Short and sweet this place was sick, and I’ll be back - boom 💥
Let me start by saying I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Damai, and that Dedi, Jason and the crew are all awesome people. It’s an ideal choice of you want to go surfing with mates at fabulous Ujung Bocur and surrounds, and enjoy a terrific social atmosphere. Being situated directly in front of the break, Damai is probably the best placed spot on the point, and walking out the front door of your room and being in the water in about thirty seconds is unbelievable. That said, Damai ain’t the Hilton. My room, though comfortable, could use a little love now and again – perhaps a coat of paint and a bit of an AC upgrade. That’s not a complaint, because Damai doesn’t charge like the Hilton either - the value is exceptional - but you should probably only go there if you’re keen on surfing – if your partner is looking for a luxury resort with all the frills, to fritter away the time while you’re revelling in amazing waves, better leave them at home. The food was good and there was plenty of it, the info that Dedi provides to find the right surf is spot on, and the overall experience is A+.…
It was my second time here at Damai and my third time in South Sumatra. It was a awesome experience and we even done a little adventuring of the beaten track with our amazing surf guide Dedi and scored some very nice uncrowded waves in some ideal settings. The surf was on tap and the food was of a very high standard. Jas has a great team and also a gifted leader to keep such a team clicking united and happy. I will be back when a get a leave pass. Well done guys on a very memorable stay.
Couldn't have asked for a better Surf trip with some mates. Good accommodation, plenty of food, cold Bintang and one of the best waves I have surfed. Crew there are great and Dedi is the man, local knowledge and taking us to Surf spots all to ourselves. Will be back I can assure you.
Perfect pumping point break on the front door! We stayed for a week and were so gutted we couldn't stay longer. The hosts could have been better. The food was really good, the beers were cold and the rooms were clean, and had AC. Best surf camp I've been to! Will be going back asap!
12 of us kiwis booked out the Damai bungalows and for 2 weeks had the best time possible in South Sumatra. Three fabulous meals a day provided by the happy kitchen ladies. Ice cold beers, sodas and water always right there. Nice rooms and plenty of fans. Only saw a couple of mozzies the whole time. Kevin seemed to run the place but the owner and manager, Jase organised anything required and if he didn't then Dedi our super guide sure did. No wonder this place gets so many five star ratings. Thanks all you guys for a truly unforgettable trip. Alistair Goodwin.
Where do I start. 10 days at Damai was not enough. Without a doubt Jas and Ayu have the best surf camp I've ever been to. Right in front of the best left hander in the region, we had unreal surf nearly everyday (in off season!). Jas and surf guide Dedi have unreal knowledge of the region, they've sussed the whole coast and as such we had endless peaks and barrels to ourselves on multiple days. Speaking of Dedi, what a legend to have in the surf. Always in the right position for photos of us, and always with a smile on his face. Their 5 star staff are courteous and accommodating. Food is delicious, try the chicken wraps. Unreal value too, this is what surf camps should be about. These guys have got it nailed. Will be back next year! Cheers gang!
