12 of us kiwis booked out the Damai bungalows and for 2 weeks had the best time possible in South Sumatra. Three fabulous meals a day provided by the happy kitchen ladies. Ice cold beers, sodas and water always right there. Nice rooms and plenty of fans. Only saw a couple of mozzies the whole time. Kevin seemed to run the place but the owner and manager, Jase organised anything required and if he didn't then Dedi our super guide sure did. No wonder this place gets so many five star ratings. Thanks all you guys for a truly unforgettable trip.
Alistair Goodwin.

My son "Boggo" and I spent most of April 2012 guests of Damai. Ayu and her staff go out of their way make your stay as enjoyable and interesting as possible. Ayu's love of cooking guaranteed a vaiety of excellent Indonesian and western meals. With clean rooms set in well maintained grounds overlooking the most consistant wave in the area and a cold beer to end the day make it the standout accomodation of the area. I have no hesitation in recommending it. Cheers Marc and "Boggo"

A fantastic experience. Damai sits in front of a world class surf break and caters for purists who enjoy authentic hospitality and the opportunity travel provides - new friendships, experiences and genuine good times.
Jason, Dedi and the team are right on point with their gaff. Good times indeed.

Where do I start. 10 days at Damai was not enough. Without a doubt Jas and Ayu have the best surf camp I've ever been to. Right in front of the best left hander in the region, we had unreal surf nearly everyday (in off season!). Jas and surf guide Dedi have unreal knowledge of the region, they've sussed the whole coast and as such we had endless peaks and barrels to ourselves on multiple days. Speaking of Dedi, what a legend to have in the surf. Always in the right position for photos of us, and always with a smile on his face.

Their 5 star staff are courteous and accommodating. Food is delicious, try the chicken wraps. Unreal value too, this is what surf camps should be about. These guys have got it nailed. Will be back next year! Cheers gang!

Just spent over a week at Damai during the off season and scored quality waves everyday. Damai Bungalows are sitting right in front of the point at Ujong Bucor and they definitely have the best location on the beach. Waking up every morning to an epic breakfast overlooking this perfect left hander is the best way to start the day.

Ayu and Jason are absolute legends and make you feel at home straight away, helping you out with anything you need and a good idea of where to go and what to do in the area. It's easy to see why so many people come to Damai, or the krui beach area in general and decide to come back every year, the place is perfect.

Not that you will be spending much time in your room, but they are great as well. Comfortable, clean and mosquito free. I'd recommend this place to anyone.

With three delicious cooked meals a day, laundry service, internet and pay TV its like going back home to live with the parents except its Ayu and Jas and they're both legends. The staff there are awesome too, always friendly and more then happy to accommodate. Having the surf out the front is a bonus too! I highly recommend this place to anyone thinking of having an awesome time!

From the long left hand reef break straight out the front to the all inclusive food, Damai has got it nailed when it comes to surf camps in South Sumatra. Jason & Ayu do a great job in organising everything you need for a surfing holiday. It is a long long drive from the nearest airport (Lampung) but Jas will have a good car and driver waiting when your plane lands. Jason has years of local knowledge about the surf breaks and just about everything else around Krui. He will organise a bike or car for all your side trips to the other surf breaks or even a cultural tour if you need a break from the waves. The Bintangs are always icey cold and the food awesome. Ayu will organise anything you need from the kitchen and will even get stuff like local sim cards etc etc from Krui, nothing is any trouble for Jason & Ayu. As a repeat visitor to Bali, Sumbawa and Lombok (and to Damai) I rate this surf camp the best I have been to.

Thanks Jason, Ayu, Big Kev and the staff for a lovely 12 night stay. The bed was big, the food excellent, the beers cold and the advice on where to get waves invaluable. Nothing was too much of a problem for you guys.

Just to add to the excitement of the waves in the area was the mad dash up the hill for the tsunami warning in the dark (luckily Jason has subscribed to the tsunami alerts!) and the wonderful lunar eclipse on the last morning's surf.

A magic trip, thanks.
Craig.

Thanks Jas, Chooky and staff. I had an awesome 12 days with you. Food was great everyday and loved the flexible meal times for breakfast and lunch - allowed me to plan meals around surfing not the other way around. Jas found some flat day fun for us (on the 1 and only flat day we still found waves on the beachies)) and also escorted us to some out of the way surf spots. Great hosts and definitely would return. I was trying to get a surf trip together when I got an E-mail from a friend ( that I never met) in Australia, wanting to know if I was "keen" on meeting him and some of his friends and family in Sumatra for some surf and adventure. ARE YOU KIDDING.......Yes!! So off I went to Damai's. It was the best thing I've ever done. The surf was crank'in everyday for 2 weeks. The food was so good, and the Bintangs were really cold. Jason is a good dude and the koolest to hang out with. Ayu is so funny and happy all the time it made me feel right at home. Jason was on top of everything, getting drivers together for surfing other spots, arranging boat trips, jungle tours. After 43 years of surfing I finally did a surf trip. I'd say I started @ the top. I'm about to turn 60 and this was the 1st on "The Bucket List"....... The 2nd.... I'm going back August 2015.... Cheers from Harvey the Wallbanger....

Hi, just wanted to know what the surf was like january looki g at going that time of ths year. Cheers
Answer from ayu s
Bandar Lampung, Indonesia
Hi January is off season here, so you wouldn't expect big swells, winds can be a mixed bag but the trade off is off season means a lot less people aorund the area, luck in with some favourable conditions and crowds would be the least of your worries..... thanks.... Damai Bungalows......

"It would depend on what group was staying there and if you had to share. The Hotel takes 6 rooms with 2 singles in each. back from the bar would be quieter but it's not an issue as everyone has surfed all day and goes to bed early"
