Verry outdated hotel rooms that were not clean. My room had spiders and flying critters. I upgraded to get a space outside to enjoy mornig coffee and the outdoor furniture was covered in bird feces. I emailed management and nothing was done. Servoice was sub par as I was told about any amentities like restaraunts, and that my room was not going t be cleaned daily. I am not sure what the $15 repsort fee covered.

This place is very tired. Checked in - staff was nice - went to the room. Halls were dingy, room was so dated - we called around and found another property and promptly checked out. Didn’t want to stay the night or swim in the pool 🙁. We’re gold elite Marriott and have stayed at plenty of Marriott properties. This was one of the worst - sad to say.

We were here 1 night. Great location. This hotel is bulit into a mountain with lots of natural beauty. Every employee we encountered was friendly, greeter out front, receptionist, a manager gal we past on a walk. Older property that has been redecorated but still needs some TLC. We arrived at Noon and were able to get our room. Beds and pillows were comfy. Decent room & bath, Walls are thin, could here our neighbors chatting. Went straight to the pool. 2 different pools to choose from, one next to each other. A dozen or so people. Lots of tree debris in the pool but trees are hanging over the pool and breeze was blowing things in. Hundreds of dead bees in the pool and all around the pool from people scooping them out. I asked the towel attendant to call someone to clean them up. A boy came with a pool skimmer. He kicked all the bees off the concrete into the pool and skimmed them out. No broom & dustpan??? Lots of chairs that were torn, unable to use. These should be removed. The pool bar had closed the day before for repairs. We had to walk quite a ways to the lobby bar to get a drink. A gal sitting next to us walked up to lobby bar and asked for a daquiri and was told they didn't have a blender. Thought maybe a server would come around but no go. Would have been nice to have a complimentary beer or an attendant with a cooler full of beers, soda & water for purchase. Grounds were pretty dirty. Saw lots of garbage all around . Needs a good clean up. Went to their main restaurant for a drink but it was closed. There is a $15 resort fee. No valet, no bellboy, pool bar was closed, spa was closed, pool slide was closed. Maybe due to covid? Didn't feel they should be charging people a resort fee at this time. Has potential but needs some work.

A simply lovely resort ideally centrally located in the Phoenix Metro Area. The Buttes has a low key, classic atmosphere, and the setting is idyllic. If you are looking for a sleek and perfectly manicured place to stay, then go to the Westin Kierland, where we stayed for a week prior to our visit. The setting at The Buttes is a peaceful, natural oasis in the desert. Pools set amidst the rocks, with jacuzzis sprinkled up the rocky hillside, very private hideaways in the rock walls with lovely views all around. Our room overlooked one of the pools with brilliant fuchsia that are simply breathtaking. We celebrated our anniversary with dinner at Top of the Rock at one of their patio tables overlooking the entire valley with 270 degree views. This is our new go-to resort whenever we visit the Phoenix area. Just 10 minutes from the airport and no airport noise, it was just perfect for us. Although not classified a historic resort (built in 1987), it reminded me of lodges in our national parks, i.e. the Ahwahnee (Yosemite), El Tovar (Grand Canyon). Not shee-shee or uppity, but a breathtakingly delightful resort.

The Marriott Tempe at the Buttes is only 10 minutes from the airport and our favorite place to stay in Phoenix. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The rooms are nice, the pool and ambiance are great. Also the Top of the Rock restaurant is one of our favorite restaurants in the world. I also enjoy a short early morning hike up the Twin Buttes trail whenever I stay here. Phoenix can get hot, but the Marriott is like an oasis in the desert. The fitness center looks well stocked, although I generally prefer to just hike outdoors.
