From the moment we arrived at this hotel, i knew I had made a mistake. It was listed as a category 5 and had decent reviews online, however we were in for a big disappointment. My first impression is that it's dark and old, and is just like a university student hotel or dorm. We got the 2 bedroom suite, which I believe is supposed to be their nicest room. when we checked in, i first noticed that the dishwasher was full, so I had to unload someone else's dishes if I wanted to use the kitchen. Barely any supplies in the kitchen. Fridge had garbadge in it from the last person. There were No chairs or furniture whatsoever on balcony. In general the room seems Run down and dark and has been damaged by students staying here. The most disgusting thing i noticed after i got into bed was that the thin duvet on the bed had several massive stains. Human fluids of some type. So we took that off and just used the sheet. How in the world marriott assigned this hotel a category 5 is beyond me. We are here for 11 days, and didn't want to have to eat take out the entire time. But it seems impossible to find a hotel chain that has a kitchen and isn't run down. We are absolutely checking out early and finding a hotel that cares about upkeep and cleanliness.

I would consider our family a “fairly avidly active traveling family” of 4. We have two young boys and probably stay on average at 5 hotels/15 nights a year. This property absolutely blew my mind. Not only were they beyond on top of the COVID game, each and every employee behind the front desk was kind, patient, and professional. The same goes for housekeeping. We extended our stay (twice) and they were so patient and gracious and even reached out to us to ensure we knew to get our key cards replaced before we would get locked out. The level of communication between employees to ensure guest satisfaction I don’t think I’ve ever seen (and I’ve been in the restaurant and hospitality industry myself for 21 years). This specific trip we had a total of 9 of us and in 2 rooms as we flew to meet out of state family. Multiple times a day we saw staff sanitizing the pool area. Even during COVID they’re still honoring their complimentary breakfast policy via pre-bagged breakfast sacks which includes a bottle of water, your choice of muffin flavor, an orange and a yogurt. It was perfect before a day of hiking or sightseeing with a young family! This property is extra safe and secure as you can’t even enter the property without a valid key card or buzzing to the front desk. We are already planning our next visit to this specific property! The location is SUPREME! And don’t even get me started on their rooftop pool view! BREATHTAKING and STUNNING! THANK YOU, Residence Inn Downtown Tempe for the most memorable family vacation inside the states to date and humoring us with all of our needs and banter! Our only “pit” would be the pool closing at 8pm but that’s not a complaint. It’s more of a “bummer but we understand.”

Other than the location, there is nothing special about this hotel. No housekeeping, ridiculous side charges (i. e. Parking). Check in person (Dan?) neglected to provide site Covid procedures, which another clerk gave us later (this should have been a priority BEFORE check in). Limited sanitation stations. One at main floor elevator but not other floors, none at rear entrance. No sanitation wipes. Other than location this is just another RI...nothing special about the property and the lack of Covid protection and information is inappropriate.

From the moment we arrived, we knew precautions had been taken to ensure guest safety. Everyone wore a mask and social distancing was at its best. The sunset at the top floor near the pool was the best ever. Hope to return mask-free in the future. Stay safe everyone. Restaurants offered delivery or take out.

We had a great time at the Residence Inn! This property was a great place for our bachelor party. Right from the start, Serena, an associate at the property was very kind and welcoming. She informed us of some great activities to do around the area, offered some complimentary popcorn, and even had 2 bags with treats for us to celebrate our bachelor party. I would definitely stay here again!
