This place is very secluded yet easy to discover. The back yard leads to the black sand beach where you can walk to and enjoy tremendous views and privacy. Not the typical beach where you can swim or sun but surfing is good as well as scuba and snorkeling. But the high point here are Raven and Mark who could...

We wanted to experience the Hawaii of 1970s fantasies and not in the tourist way. Raven and Mark ensured that was the case. Their home, tucked in a tropical paradise, and sitting atop the 1955 lava flow was more than I could have imagined. We stayed in the Lava Room which is on the main floor. Do not expect expect...

Thank you so much for choosing to stay and share our life here on the beach, with the added extraordinary event of seeing new land being formed and transformed by our very active volcano, all from the safe viewing point of my home. We enjoyed your company, new insights into this place, and look forward to seeing you here again...

All the excellent reviews of Ma'ukele Lodge are true. Not only are you experiencing paradise you are also immersed in the Hawaiian culture plus Raven and Mark are the most fun-loving and caring hosts. We were celebrating our 49th wedding anniversary and we have always tried to stay in exotic and unusual places. This will always be our all time...

Mahalo for staying with us. Your celebration is my celebration, a memory shared by all of us as you mark an amazing journey through time with your love. Mark and I revisit our beautiful Inn and realize again how lucky we are to share this beautiful place with such special guests as yourselves. E komo Mai, with Aloha,

My husband and I stayed here last year for our Anniversary and we really enjoyed our time. The property has a lot of beautiful foliage, views of the ocean, and is even a quick walk away from lava-covered black sand beaches. It was conveniently located but still quiet and out of the way. Raven and Mark were both extremely friendly...

Incredible experience at the Ma'ukele Lodge! This is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. This trip worked out perfectly for us. Our intention was to check out the current lava flow and it exceeded our dream. We checked into the beach house that rests just behind the 1991 Kaimu Beach lava flow. 'A'a and Pahoehoe lava have...

Staying here doesn't feel like a B&B per say to me, more so you feel like an important guest staying with a long time set of friends you haven't seen in forever. You are made to feel very welcome. The beds were amazing; a creative and unique set up where every one had a different look. The shower outside in...

Sitting as it does, a stone's throw from Uncle Robert's at Kaimu Beach, and a short drive to Pahoa, there is no lack of things to do near the Ma'ukele Lodge. I used it as my launching point for several adventures along the Puna Coast. But the real treat was the lodge itself. Raven is a warm host. I took...

We got married on Kona, Big Island and made a one day trip to check out Hilo for the night before heading to Maui for the rest of our honeymoon vacation. Took a little time to find their house. Upon arrival Raven and Mark greeted us and were so welcoming and friendly. Their place was very different from other B&B's...

Raven was a great host and made us a wonderful breakfast that included a close encounter with a gaggle of green geckos. The room was charming and the outdoor shower and bathtub were decadent. Perhaps most interesting was the flow of pahoehoe lave that went right across the beach just past the back yard. It is a great place.

Thank you for sharing this special place with us. Although there are many Hippies that have moved and live in the Island of Hawaii, there is nothing Hippy about this place. This place is 100% Hawaiian. Mahalo and Aloha

Very cool B&B - I am so happy I found this little gem... It is somewhat hard to find as it is not listed on Booking, but somehow I went into Expedia and found this place! This is a REAL place, as far as one can imagine from Hilton or Marriot... So if a big hotel and a "yes sir"...

The beauty of this place awes me every day. Unfortunately, The Coquille frogs think the same thing about this environment and have been hitching rides here to enjoy the perfect weather. They have nothing to barr their existence, and sing only at night. There are amazing views, great places to snorkel and natural hot springs to submerge in. I open...
