The Humpback Turtle is a beach hostel in El Valle, Colombia, on Almejal Beach where the powerful Pacific Ocean meets the vibrant jungle of Choco. We offer rustic beach side accommodation in thatch roof cabins with private rooms, dorm beds, and hammocks. Our restaurant serves fresh fish and locally grown fruit and herbs, with a guest kitchen as well. Our bar keeps the cold beer and reggae tunes flowing, with stunning views over the Pacific. In addition, we offer an array of tours and cultural activities in the area. As we have a beach break right in front of the hostel, we do Surf Classes and Board Rentals! Come & live the Pacific at the Humpback Turtle!

Absolutely loved the Humpback Turtle. To build such a place in such a remote area takes absolute dedication and an enormous amount of effort. I enjoyed every minute of it; friendly staff, great place to socialize with other travelers and the nature is more impressive than I've

One of the staff had been really pushy toward one of my friend. Felix forced her to kiss, tried to touch her, and walked her until the room. Don't recommend this place to female traveler, especially if travelling solo...

Response from Tyler S, Owner at The Humpback Turtle
Responded Dec 2, 2018
Hola Alexandre, Apologies for the extremely late response, and for the terrible situation your friend was put in. I just want to let you and everyone know Felix is not a member of the staff at the Humpback Turtle, nor ever has been. He is a freelance tour guide who works the beach offering super low price tours to backpackers. The idea is that he does not enter the hostel. Apologies once again and we will do our best to ensure this person and people like him do not harass our guests!

We absolutely loved the area and remoteness. But this is a typical example of a hostel set up by foreigners but run by locals. Most of the staf were indifferent most of the time, had difficulty answering (simple) questions and we did feel more than an intruder than that we felt

The location is incredible, hidden at the end of this beautiful wild beach near El Valle. HOWEVER, the rooms are disgusting with a capital D. “Don’t touch anything” was my first thought each morning. Owner is condescending, reception staff is extremely indifferent, and

Hola David, Monkeys and sloths can be seen in the Jungles here, on a 3-4 hour trek from the hostel. It is certainly possible to do a night hike into the jungle to see insects and reptiles!!! Asid from that, we are in one of the worlds richest regions for bird life, and the marine life is epic as well!
