The W Scottsdale is always my go-to place to stay when in town. They always treat me so well, upholding all the Marriott Bonvoy benefits, like upgrades (they always give me the best rooms), early check in, late check out. On this trip, Liz at the front desk took extra good care of me by making sure I could stay in the same room when I added an extra night to my stay, last minute. Great property and lots of fun, don’t ever hesitate to stay at the W Scottsdale!
Our planned 3 night stay at the W Scottdale turned into one disappointing night. I have traveled the world and stayed in every type of hotel and never experienced anything like this place. I wish I had more carefully read the terrible reviews for this hotel as this was our experience as well. Online, the GM keeps responding to the bad reviews, and nothing seems to change. Just note to the GM that this message is not for you, so no need to answer. If you want to, you have the power to fix things for future guests. Pool: After many questions to the management, I was finally told the truth that the pool area, which is crudely called WET- is not managed by the hotel but by another company called Spellbound Entertainment Group. The hotel advertises it as an amenity for guests that is open all day and into the late evening. According to this one honest staff member, WET has the right to deny pool area admittance to any hotel guest as their pool boys see fit. Yes- there are pool boys at the gate that let you in or not and they seem to think that this is 1980 and that they are important bouncers at Studio54. FYI- This is 2022 and everyone should be treated with respect, and you work at an insignificant hotel in the middle of a Podunk town. As I experienced myself, they use arbitrary “dress codes” to turn hotel guests away. One young staff member at the front desk told me in a snotty way “You better dress to impress if you want access to the pool.” Seriously- I need to impress a pool boy to use an advertised hotel amenity?? The night manager told me the dress code policy was on the hotel website, but I couldn't find it. Hotel Atmosphere / Management: If you are looking for a boorish frat party ambience, this is your place. The night manager explained to me several times that this was a “lively hotel” and that they catered to customers who are in the “entertainment industry.” I have stayed at many “lively hotels” that hosted events and parties and I do not care what her preferred customers do for a living- as long as their activities do not interfere with my comfort and experience. The music from the hotel (not other patrons) blared until 2 AM and the walls are thin. We were given no orientation to the hotel- it’s services or policies- just more or less told that were we not their preferred clientele and given a room key. I have never stayed at a hotel whose staff/management seemed to be almost gleeful about making a guest's stay uncomfortable. Rooms: Our first room was so noisy from loud, dated, and repetitive music coming from the pool area that we requested and were granted a move to a less loud – though not quiet- room. For the prices at the hotel, the rooms were very small and box like. The first room was so small that there was barely room to walk around the bed. There was no balcony or outdoor space with the room. The furniture was beat up looking. The advertised refrigerator was actually a stuffed mini bar. With limited pool access, small rooms and a location that was less than I expected, there was no justification for the cost. Valet: Besides the one hotel employee above, the valet services were the only professional and courteous staff we encountered.…
The W Scottsdale fully discloses that this is a weekend party hotel. Definitely TRUE. What I didn’t realize is that the pool deck, bar ( only place to eat lunch) lounge chairs are not owned by the Hotel. If you want to sit around the pool, expect to pay 800 plus for bottle service first. You must reserve this beforehand through a different website. The pool will be packed full of people who have no where else to stand, or sit. This is a want to be seen, college, insta-fiends, bachelorette type weekend locale. Wild weekend get away…this is IT.
I’ve never left a review for a hotel, but I was so incredibly impressed with Caitlin at the front desk that I had to take the time to do so this time. Just through casual conversation we hit it off and she was always very pleasant and helpful when I’d see her occasionally during my 5 night stay. What really stood out however, was after a conversation we had during my last day about my love for Pokémon (don’t you judge me), she went through the insane trouble of sending a few beers to my room with a hand-written letter thanking me for staying at the hotel, accompanied with a Pokémon-related joke and cut-out of a Pikachu...I’ve never been so pleasantly caught off guard lol. I was so stunned I had to call my mom because I didn’t know what to do. I understand the concept of going above and beyond, but going above and beyond using knowledge coming from actually listening and giving a damn about your guests is on another level in its entirety. So hats off to Caitlin. I haven’t smiled that big in a really long time. And hats off to the hotel management team for having her as part of the team.…
THE WORST! I had this booked since beginning of March. Called weekly with questions etc. I was warned about a wild pool party which lol yeah okay. About 1 girl for every ten dads and only the waitresses are cute. Music is the same every day. I'm a Marriott Bonvoy member with a high status, I travel a lot. This is the worst W. I had a a 3rd floor balcony room but somehow that didn't happen and I was told I could either get a room now or cancel and go elsewhere, this is while I'm there and just got in. Go where? Also you ignore notes? Yes he admittedly did but here's two free drink tickets (they didn't get used). That doesn’t help the fact that I am okay with your biggest issue (the pool party) and my girlfriend and I were pushed aside. The icing on the cake was our waitress at Maple and Ash saying "omg I'm sorry you're at the W. It's gone downhill so badly and it's just a day club that happens to be a hotel. They only care about the pool party and you guys are from Miami so you probably think it's a lame pool party. You should've checked their reviews online they're pretty bad." Yes they were bad I'm about to add two more. And yes we did think the pool party was nowhere near as good as W Vegas, Miami or Fort Lauderdale.…
This hotel has sub par amenities for the price you pay for your room. We paid $4300 for two queen bed sized rooms for 3 nights. One bed the mattress was falling in, the hotel did bring a new one but this should have never been rented with the mattress like this. My biggest complaint though is the pool. According to Raoul at the pool, the pool is not owned or ran by the hotel, it is ran by a 3rd party company. They allow patrons to come to the pool who are not guests at the hotel, it is open to the public. There are only 9 double lounge chairs available to use for free. These are clearly labeled first come first serve. My party got to the pool at 7:30 am on a Friday morning just to secure a chair for each one of us. At this time there were 4-5 chairs that had various items sitting on them, hat or towel, to reserve them. Twoof the chairs had the same looking black cloth. Raoul told us he could not give us two sets of chairs, even though there were two sets empty, now mind you there was a big sign saying first come first serve. It was only at the time that I told my friends I was going to complain at the desk did he finally give in and allow us the empty chairs. One of the chairs that had the black cloth on it stayed empty until at least 3:00; even after I saw Raoul repeatedly tell people there were no open seats available. Around 3:00 pm I see a couple walk up, I saw Raoul shake his head no, I saw the couple hand him $100, then miraculously that seat became open. I am all for tipping, but it was apparent to me that these chairs were here for whoever gave Raoul the biggest tip. After the free chairs, the cheapest chair to use was $2500 a day to rent, this was a Friday, I know they were more on Saturday, but possibly less on a weekday. There is absolutely no preference given to hotel guests at any level at the hotel. I had a spa treatment and it was phenomenal as was the spa staff, that was the only thing that made me think I was staying at a high end resort, the rest felt like an every day Holiday Inn.…
The staff and management is one of the worst I've ever encountered. Mobile check in is a waste of time because they require you to do the entire process again at the front desk. They are incompetent and do not know or adhere to Marriott policies. I don't work for Marriott but as someone who stays over 100 nights a year in in Marriott properties, I pay pretty close attention I asked for the contact information for the corporate office so that I could share my concerns. I was told they are not authorized to give out that information! This is of course ridiculous because a property owner's information is public record and I found it with a simple search on the internet. But no customer should be denied the ability to contact the corporate office to complain about an issue. I was scheduled for a two night stay, but was so disgusted with every aspect of my stay that I checked out after one night and went to a hotel down the street. I would suggest you do yourself a favor and just skip the W Scottsdale all together. Marriott should either take immediate steps to retrain the staff (and especially the management who was actually worse than front line staff) at this property to bring them in line or the property will erode the W brand in the mind of any traveler that crosses their path.…
I was discriminated at the pool by the hotel staff. I stayed at the Ritz and various other fine establishments in the past, I am just in shock because not one of these establishments ever treated me so bad like the W in Scottsdale. Maybe because I speak Russian and there is a war between Russia and Ukraine. When I tried to bring it up to the supervisor on two different occasions, they just gave me emails of people to contact, and guess what, no one ever reached back. I was banned from using the facility for the rest of the weekend. Paying almost 900 and night and being restricted from using the hotel, is not acceptable.
This was my first time to Arizona and I'm so happy I picked Scottsdale and The W Hotel!!!! What a special hotel! We absolutely loved that you could walk anywhere from nightlife, restaurants ,shopping and even museums and historical places, the location was amazing. If we didn't feel like walking or taking an Uber the nightlife and food at this hotel was definitely top of the line with live music and/ or a DJ on certain nights . What really made it special was definitely some of the talent we had the pleasure of meeting and helping us with our stay. We checked in pretty late , we were welcomed by Feliez And because of our status was able to upgrade us to a beautiful room. Shout out to - Shawn Morrow-(always took the time to greet us , check in on us and make sure everything was OK and that we were having a great time, actually he was there day and night , I think he lived there that week , lol) Ethan Halverson ( helped so much with knowledge of the area, was awesome!) Jay ( also very helpful ) Bryce ( was so professional and helpful! Couldn't do enough for us with a smile at all times) Then there was Caitlin Smith ....! Caitlin truly went above and beyond and was one of the kindest humans I've ever met! She truly knows the meaning of connecting and making people feel special!!!🤩 She truly gave a whatever whenever experience, I mentioned that I'd liked a cup... something so simple but they were sold out and somehow she found one for me!!!!🌟✨ I believe she truly has an amazing future in the hospitality industry. All the above mentioned are truly an asset to this hotel , going out of their way to make sure or stay here was a great experience! We will be back!…
Elisa who works the night shift as this hotel was helpful, but everyone else at this hotel is u helpful. The hotel gym is super small, no pool… The amenities kind of suck. Honestly there are better hotels in the area which are newer and better. This could be a fun hotel in the summer but sucks otherwise
