First time visit to this resort and I have to underscore the comments of several other recent visitors about the poor communication from the hotel around pool amenities etc. I was so put off by the emails I received in advance of my trip and my calls to clarify that I actually tried to cancel my reservation. It would have been too costly to do so. That said, I went in with very low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Once I arrived and connected with the front desk staff, bar team, and the rest of the support staff, I was treated with every courtesy one would expect at a Westin resort. The concierge team needs to up their communications game to match the rest of the staff. The property is well-maintained and comfortable. Just go in aware that you are essentially vacationing in the middle of a suburban neighborhood and adjust expectations accordingly. The smaller suites are rather dark, but have every convenience and are quite comfortable. Didn't expect to say this, but I can't wait to return! I know this review was a mixed bag. On balance this is a thumbs up.

Our in laws and my family had 2 rooms booked at the main resort. We chose this property over many other properties due to the amenities for our two children. Lazy River. Large Pool. Flow Rider. Etc. 3 weeks before arriving, we decided to move to the Villas for more space for the kids. After calling numerous times to confirm we could still use the main resort facilities, we decided to change our reservation and pay MORE money to stay at the Villas for a little more space, but maintain access to the whole property. This is NOT TRUE even though we were told numerous times this would not be an issue. After we arrived, we noticed the “Villas Explorer,” a flyer specific to the Villas ONLY, tells us conveniently when the Lazy River, Adventure Pool, and Flowrider are available. The things we DON’T have access too. Thank you for letting us know when the things we were told we would have access to are not available to us. Ironically, sitting around the pool, MANY others are very frustrated with the same thing. We even went to the front desk to try and get our refund for our reservation back. When we mentioned we had booked at the main resort and then changed to the villas, the response was “I’m very sorry about your experience not being the same as you expected.” Funny thing was that’s NOT why we were there - we were there to get our refund from our cancellation from over 3 weeks ago. It’s apparent many others have complained and all workers are dealing with complaints. As a frequent traveler who has never had anything positive to say about Marriott, this trip has definitely changed that loyalty. I never would have thought I’d be writing a review like this for a Marriott property. It’s really disappointing. If the expectation was clear out of the gate, I would have 0 complaints. The bottom line is expectations were incorrectly set by the property themselves and despite trying to find a remedy, 0 was provided. Nothing provided for the inconvenience. We paid over 7K for our visit - surely even a 100 dollar resort credit would leave plenty of room to hit your profit margin targets and gone a long way to show some level of customer appreciation. Empower your employees to do what’s right, Marriott. Any level of appropriate remedy would have stopped this review from happening.

I apologize for the poor messaging on access to the resort's pool area. The resort informed us in late February that they anticipated that their pool facilities would be fully utilized by their guests. We attempted to share this by posting notices on our amenities guide on our website and on pre-arrival messages. The resort always reserves the right to limit access for Villa guests in their pool area if needed and this may also be the case in future times. I would be happy to discuss how we could have handled your comments better while on site if you would like to call me. I appreciate your comments and hope you might give us another opportunity to better show our hospitality. Best regards, Scott Caldwell General Manager

We have been trying to book this hotel for a few months now. Obviously with the past year the best laid plans go to waste. We finally have the opportunity to make it work again and use our new bonvoy amex but the pricing is beyond stupid. I have stayed in luxury hotels where you are spending around 1 k a day this is not one of them. It's the Westin, sure it's upscale in all beige but not luxury. Yet they are charging $500 a night minimum for a basic room and your not even receiving the full benefits of the resort. The pictures of the long lines to get into the pools and the terrible reviews are enough to scare anyone away from paying that much for a poor experience. I looked into renting a cabana or chair anything to improve the use of the grounds and it would have made the cost of the staying well around $1,000 a day just for the stay & amenities alone for a couple. Absolutely ridiculous.

I certainly wish we did have more amenities open and look forward to adding to our pool seating as soon as increased density is approved. We strived to balance the safety aspects required with working to create a welcoming, relaxing experience for our guests. I do hope you'll give us another opportunity in the future to demonstrate our commitment to providing a wonderful, memorable stay. Best regards, Scott Caldwell General Manager

As our world has been chaotic for the last year, we returned to one of our favorite places in our vacation ownership portfolio - Westin Kierland Villas. In the hospitality and travel industry, it has been a tough balance between patron safety and vacation enjoyment. We were pleased with their efforts. It begins at the Front Drive where we were met by familiar faces (smiles under masks) and the usual friendly greetings. Rob, Jeff and Mark handled our luggage and transportation needs in an accommodating fashion. The Front Desk check-in and efforts to please were seamless and prompt, led by John and Emma. At the Concierge's Desk, Cat offered insights and results. The Restaurant/Poolside service was always pleasant and anticipatory of our desires. We appreciate Toni Marie, Ron, Haley and Emily's efforts. Chef Jason continues to produce his culinary magic! The Fun Team provides "Fun" for us and the necessary sanitizing efforts to keep us safe, led by Cameron and others. Manny kept us refreshed and comfortable as always. The cross-training of staff is evident and enhances their capabilities during these trying times. The property continues to be well-maintained and very attractive, which is important to us as owners. We also want to recognize the efforts of maintenance people (JR, Jay, et. al.), and housekeeping staff, who were prompt and professional when needed. We all look forward to a return of better times, but we truly appreciate the efforts of the Westin Kierland Villas personnel.

Walking distance to amazing shopping and restaurants. Beautiful property inside and out. Great service. If you are looking for a remote feeling property, this is not it, but if you want to be close to a vibrant, walkable shopping/dining area, this can't be beat! The golf course looks great too!
