Sonder The Monarch has appeared to undergo a change of ownership that was not reflected on Priceline where I completed my booking. We reached out to Priceline and a representative was able to secure a cancellation with front desk staff at Sonder The Monarch, who said they would read out within 24-48 hours but they never did. We never checked into the hotel and did not receive our refund for $350 across four evenings. This is completely unacceptable.
I unfortunately did not have a chance to stay here but I did book a cabana for the day via resort pass. I looked at quite a few different hotels who offered cabana and day bed rentals and felt The Saguaro was the best deal and still agree with that! There was a food & beverage minimum with the cabana rental (I did know this ahead of time but it was ‘fine print.’) Luckily the wonderful staff (especially Liz!) keep the pitchers coming and the food was delicious…meting the minimum was no problem. My only complaint is that the water was somewhat cloudy, but not concerning. I also completely understand that I was visiting the day after their 4th of July pool party and was satisfied that I could smell pool chemicals/chlorine. Bonus Points: Free Parking, close by Old Town Scottsdale, get the taco trio.…
This was my first experience staying at this hotel. Nice location. The exterior of the hotel looks decent, it looks like the pictures. There was an upfront parking fee, but after arriving it is unclear why there is a fee. It is self parking and no parking permits distributed to identify which cars paid. The room was basic no frills. The room was not the cleanest. There were tufts of hair on the floor. The TV has Roku and other streaming services, but you have to use your own accounts to be able to watch anything. We had a connecting door to the next room. We could hear the TV and conversation from the next room. Traveling with my daughter I felt uneasy there.
I was really excited to be staying in Old Town Scottsdale. I have been traveling around the US for work and have a few friends in the Phoenix area. So I figured I’d stay a few extra days in the area to spend time with friends. When I first pulled up, I had to drive around the entire complex to find my building. Because of how much luggage I am traveling with for work, I had to find a spot as close to the elevator as possible because there was no luggage cart. It took me 5 trips up and down to get everything inside. Although the place was relatively clean, there was hair in the bathtub and sink that I wish I didn’t haven’t to clean myself. Also, I had a few meetings Friday morning and there was not desk or even chair to sit in. I had to get a camping chair from my car and set it up in front of the dresser. In many ways, this felt more like a dorm room than a hotel stay. Also, there is plenty of parking, yet they charge $15 a night. Why not just build it into the cost of the stay? That being said, the bed was comfy, the property was great with the pool, hot tub, and gym and the location was fantastic as I was able to walk into Old Town Scottsdale within moments. What I paid was reasonable for what I got. There was a big storm heading through northern Arizona that I had to beat out in order to get to my next destination in Gallup, NM, so I vacated the property a day early - the basics of the place made it an easy decision to do without asking for or worrying about a refund. Would recommend this for visitors on a budget. If you are looking for something a little more upscale, look elsewhere.…
By far one of the worst Experiences I have ever had. We were booked there for an event. Stayed two nights, rooms were cheap and dirty. Digital lock code given to us did not work, tried phoning front desk , just got call center. Wifi didn’t work, couldn’t call front desk as there were no phones in room. Bathroom light and very loud fan came on at same time. Bedside lights were like 5 w bulbs. On the afternoon of our first day a new guest was assigned to our room and entered while we were inside. On our departure day we asked for a late checkout to 12:00. Cleaning staff showed up at 11:00 and asked us to vacate. This is neither a VRBO or a hotel.
This was a motel with no housekeeping service unless you wanted to pay extra. Everything is original, and the furnishings are from IKEA. It reminded me of my daughter's first place in college with a mini fridge and no microwave. No water pressure at all in the shower. Popcorn ceilings, tiny bathroom with a plastic door that wouldn't close and left a 2" gap so I had no privacy. Since there is no housekeeping, people were leaving bags of garbage outside of their room in the hallways. You could hear every single sound around you. Here's what I liked: the heating and cooling in the room worked fast. The proximity to Old Town Scottsdale can't be beat. The comforter was soft and so were the pillows.
Ridiculous non-functioning "check-in" process. Will never go back to any Sonders. Completely annoyed at your useless system, lack of phone numbers, and attempt to provide no service. Horrible process with more information than a hotel needs.....and it doesn't even work.
I booked a reservation through Priceline, upon check-in, I found out the rooms only have streaming services (i.e. Netflix). There are two NFL games on Saturday as well as games on Sunday. It's not possible to watch the NFL or any other games. I contacted Priceline to cancel, they contacted the hotel and the hotel refused to let me cancel my reservation. I had to pay for the room and book another hotel.
Positives: - Great property overall with beautiful lobby area - Beautiful pools - Our bed was SOOOO comfortable - Priced right - LOCATION - walk out the property and you are in Old Town Scottsdale - No key cards. Everything done by email/cell phone. Things that were challenging for us: - The bathroom door was a sliding closet door that didn’t close all the way. Not a great design - our room had an adjoining door to the room next to us and we could hear EVERYTHING through that door. I would consider staying here again.
Do not stay here. You cannot speak with anyone at the front desk. Sonder refused to allow us to modify our reservation despite canceling it outside the three day policy. Stuck talking with people isn’t he Philippines that are inept. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
