Step onto Old Town Scottsdale in 60 seconds. The Monarch features beautiful yellow and orange accents like its butterfly namesake. The peaceful Calma Pool is at the center of our six-building property, complete with a Hammock Haven. Across the courtyard is the larger, more lively pool. Splash parties, a hot tub, walk-up bar, yard games, cabanas, and weekend DJ-style music. Book a massage with our partner, Todd Miller's Spa and Wellness. Or lift weights in the fitness center, which overlooks the main pool through floor-to-ceiling windows. Plus, La Flora is our onsite restaurant and cafe, offering delicious dining options. Enjoy breakfast or a quick coffee and pastry from the cafe, or settle in for dinner at the restaurant. Inside your modern room, you'll find a mini-fridge, drip coffee, and a Roku for streaming. Outside your door, there are endless Southwestern food and entertainment options. Catch a baseball game at Scottsdale Stadium, a five-minute walk away. Browse cactus-inspired trinkets along Scottsdale Road. And The Mission is a converted church serving Latin cuisine and hand-crafted margaritas. Spice up your getaway with a stay at The Monarch. The Picante Pool hosts DJ music Friday to Sunday, 11 am–6 pm, throughout Summer. This is a central location and prone to city noise. Use the Sonder app to navigate your stay from start to finish. Check in. Request amenities. Connect to WiFi. Contact customer support. All via our small (but mighty) app. Whatever you need, we’ve got you covered. This Sonder has a front desk which is staffed 24/7. Our on-site team is available to ensure you have a better stay.

The Monarch Hotel presents a mixed bag of experiences, with its prime Old Town Scottsdale location earning consistent accolades from guests. While the design and comfort of the rooms are acknowledged, the hotel's cleanliness standards receive divided opinions, with some guests facing cleanliness issues. The vibrant atmosphere is appreciated by many, though some find it too loud. Service experiences also vary, ranging from efficient to unresponsive. Additional amenities are a hit, but the pool's accessibility and noise from events have raised concerns. Value perceptions are split, as some find the hotel affordable, while others question the cost relative to the services provided.

I attended a convention here, with about 65 other people. It was a tightly scheduled convention, so I didn’t get a lot of time to enjoy the pools and spa aspect of the place. I also had limited time to wander the neighborhood; but I liked what I did see.
The food was pretty good (except, I should know better than to eat a bagel in Arizona). I had breakfast and lunch through their catering service every day, and one dinner. Mild for Southwestern food, but suitable for a hotel audience.
The rooms, public areas, and pools were very clean. The cleaning staff was pleasant and it seemed like there was someone tending the bathroom in the main building every time I was in there!
On the third day, a pipe broke in my room. I was efficiently moved to an (upgrade) suite. They had plumbers working on the leak into the night. (It didn’t affect water in the guest rooms). I shout out to Alfredo, who made the process easy. It was worse for them than it was for me.
One word of warning! The front rooms in building 3 and 4 face a busy street. There are many muffler-free motorcycles that use that road at all hours of the day and night. Don’t stay in an odd-numbered room in those buildings, if you are not a heavy sleeper.

For the second time my company came to the Saguaro for a 3 day conference. The facilities and especially the food were very good. The rooms were sufficient, however, the beds, consisting of a single mattress on a wooden frame, were not very comfortable.

My big gripe was a hidden fee that I did not catch at check out. Buried in the list of charges was a "portage" charge of $7.00. Since I did not use any bellboy services, I can only guess that the fee was for an extra blanket I had requested and the hotel had a staff member bring to my room. Had I known the delivery would cost me $7, I would have gotten the blanket myself!

This was my 4th stay here. I discovered when my 40th high school reunion was held here maybe 7 yrs ago. It has a very artsy flavor and is in my favorite part of town, old downtown scottsdale, lots of places to walk to and fun shops. The pool area is amazing, bright and fun. I also held an event in the Agave East patio and bar, it was perfect and the staff was so helpful and accommodating in so many ways. I would say that was what was the nicest of all, the staff, so attentive and accommodating in every way. The rooms are comfortable and nice looking. They have free bicycles too! cruisers. Their menu is great I loved the Civiche and chips and the Baja tacos too! I will stay here again, for sure! Rooms could be a little cleaner, resort fee is a little high, but the pool and bikes make it worth it...free parking is great too!

Really? No! Yes, really!
I checked into Sonder from an on-line booking company since I thought this was a good price. When I arrived, I thought, well, I can always changed if I didn't like it as I was staying in Scottsdale for three days.
Here's what happened;
-got into bed - most comfortable hotel bed in many months
-pillows and sheet quality was fantastic
-okay, in the shower ... what great water pressure
-lush cotton towels
-oh look, I can open the door to the baloney --fresh air
- by God, ..great internet connection!!!
next morning, went to the front desk and extended my room for two more days! So when you think what is important when you stay at a hotel... this place got a GOLD star!
The only down side was that there was no desk in the room.

Here’s the thing about traveling during a Global Pandemic. It’s different. The Saguaro you knew and loved is in a state of pause, as much of our lives are. The rowdy pool parties, the amazing weddings and the spring training fun are on hold. What’s not on hold are friendly staff like Brennan and Jenny at the Front Desk. As many hotels did not fare well during their closure times, the Saguaro is open, the bright colors still give me a boost of energy, the bougainvilleas are still blooming and the rooms are super clean. They even use this electrostatic germ killer that zaps viruses on surfaces.

Services are limited as the hotel adjusts to the needs of a different type of business. (No Breakfast on weekdays but there are places in town for that.)

If you need a Four Seasons Experience, don’t come here for that but you’re also not paying Four Seasons prices so get over yourself.

P.S. Still Pet Friendly so splurge on a ground floor room with a patio for your pups and don’t forget to pick up after them.

This is NOT a 4 star hotel- let’s be nice and say it’s 2.5. More like a spring break party attraction that’s been badly painted bright colors and touted as hip and instagrammable.

Pros- location and the pool, although you had to hunt for pool towels, there’s no pool service and there was a party going on in the serenity pool. Staff is nice and hallways are well lit at night.

Cons- if you’ve ever heard lipstick on a pig this place is the epitome of it. It’s a 1970s place that they slapped some badly painted bright colors and weird draperies and called it a remodel. If you look closely (don’t) the baseboard and carpet are disgusting, shower grout looks like it has mold behind it, popcorn ceilings, mini fridge is super gross and barely worked. Towels were tiny and itchy, and the pool towels were varying shades of sun faded orange.
Unless you’re 22 and here to black out with your friends find somewhere else. Better yet go to the Hilton across the street.

Hi Christina, Thank you very much for your feedback. I am disappointed to hear your overview, but also understand that our colorful fun design located right in the middle of busy Old Town is not always for everyone. Being a historic property in Scottsdale does take lots of planning and upkeep, and our staff works tirelessly to maintain this outdoor property day in and day out. I am terribly sorry that we did not meet your expectation this time! I would hope for an opportunity to have you back in the future as we are excited about upcoming projects and updates! Kind Regards, Clint Sparks The Saguaro

I’ll start with this: Good place to stay, BUT do not expect a 4 star experience from this hotel.

Positives: Very affordable, decent sized room with amenities as described (2 queen beds, bathroom, coffee maker, mini fridge, TV, earplugs & white noise machine), simple check in and out process, walking distance from shops and nightlife (very very close to everything!). There is security walking around at night enforcing rules and able to help guests which was nice!

Where Sonder can improve the guest experience: The unit was cleaned with lackadaisical effort (under the bed was filthy, there was a dead bug on one of the towels, and drawers didn’t look wiped down throughly). Additionally there is no turndown service, which i was aware of at the time of booking. The balcony units on the first floor are shared and other guests have access to your patio area including right up to your sliding door. The main pool was closed all weekend long and there was no DJ or poolbar as expected (and honestly the reason I booked here over other similar hotels nearby so it was very disappointing). I got texts each day stating the pool was being cleaned and it was closed… def a bummer since the other pool was very small. The restaurant closed early on Saturday (thankfully there’s plenty other options in walking distance). Lastly, maintenance was slow to respond. My lights/power went out and it took over an hour for them to come help fix it.

Like I said, absolutely in no way is it a four star hotel experience (probably a 2.5 at best) BUT it was nice for a couple nights. I wouldn’t recommend staying long term or with a large group.

Tips: (1) don’t pay for parking. There’s plenty free parking… I’d only pay if you’re going during a busy season.
(2) lattes at the lobby are $7 but they are sooooo good and I’d get one again lol

This place is a total joke. They painted some damp old hotel rooms yellow and are trying to pass it off as a Scottsdale resort with resort prices.

Our room was musty and damp, old AC unit plus tons of street noise woke us up all night long. Stiff uncomfortable sheets. Leaking refrigerator. Slow wifi that couldn’t support the streaming they offer on the tv half the time. There’s no cleaning offered during your stay and extra supplies cost $$. We used all our towels up mopping up the leaking fridge.

Pool is decent but was unfortunately overrun by a loud group of kids and a dad playing unsafe and rowdy games - encouraged by the hotel staff.

We didn’t even touch the spa because the prices were totally prohibitive and if it’s anything like the quality of the hotel it would not have been worth it. They try to minimize the need for hotel staff with their minimal services, but the interactions we did have were mostly rude and unfriendly.

The lobby was strangely very beautiful and inviting - I can’t figure out why they don’t put half this amount of effort into the rooms themselves as no one really uses the lobby and rooms are self check-in.

The biggest thing this hotel has going for it is that it’s in the heart of old town Scottsdale which was a great location, walkable to shops, restaurants, and civic center. So if that’s your single criteria then go for it.

I’ll be avoiding the Sonder brand in the future.

Do not stay here! First of all they give you a passcode for your door and it doesn’t work. Then you call the hotel and get transferred to a call center in a different country that says they can’t even call the front desk! They give you a back up code and that doesn’t work either! After 20-25 min of being stuck outside your room they send someone with a laptop to your room to fix it. You get inside and the room looks like a dorm room with cheap everything…then after you leave to go to a conference you get a text that wifi is out and they will text you when it back but you never get that text. You can never talk to anyone in the hotel, you get sent to call centers in different countries. Please do yourself a favor and never stay here. Rooms are ghetto and there isn’t any service or customer service. Not only is it unsafe it’s open to anyone walking into the resort for every building and the doors are all outside. They will not even help their customers with getting in their rooms or with any issues…good luck if a homeless person enters the property. Nope!!!

This was my first experience staying at this hotel. Nice location. The exterior of the hotel looks decent, it looks like the pictures. There was an upfront parking fee, but after arriving it is unclear why there is a fee. It is self parking and no parking permits distributed to identify which cars paid. The room was basic no frills. The room was not the cleanest. There were tufts of hair on the floor. The TV has Roku and other streaming services, but you have to use your own accounts to be able to watch anything. We had a connecting door to the next room. We could hear the TV and conversation from the next room. Traveling with my daughter I felt uneasy there.
