Rancho de la Osa is located in Sasabe, Arizona, about an hour and a half southwest of Tucson. We are situated on just under 600 acres of high desert grassland and surrounded by nearly 120,000 acres of the Buenos Aires Wildlife Refuge. Rancho de la Osa is the most historic ranch in Arizona. A visit with us will allow you to ride trails frequented by U.S. Presidents and legendary figures like Pancho Villa and relax in the same rooms where notables like John Wayne and "Gone with the Wind" author Margaret Mitchell once stayed. Be a part of history and join us for a truly unique and extraordinary vacation experience.

John Wayne 2 bedroom suite. Family visit with two young teens.
Our experience was that the whole team went above and beyond. Our stay was great.
We arranged for a Tucson station pickup at 7.30pm. Unfortunately our train arrival time was severely delayed. When the train finally pulled in at 3.30am Paul, one of the owners was standing on the platform all smiles. He drove us the hour from Tucson to the ranch, got us to the suite and asleep without delay...and..ensured that ranch noise during the course of the morning wad kept to a minimum to allow us to recover from our journey. Breakfast was kept for us to partake on when we surfaced late morning.
Chase, the ranch chef is delightful, friendly and a great cook. He takes pride in his work and is keen to make sure each meal is tasty and satisfying. The whole family enjoyed his meals.
Adam, an cowboy/actvities co-ordinator, was also great. An experienced and charming local with a lively sense of humour and wit, but also with a professionalism that ensured that you felt at ease either horse riding, shooting clay skeets or inspecting the border wall.
The ranch is both historic and remote. We had considered staying at other dude ranches closet to Tucson and are very glad we chose De La Rosa. The view of the night sky was breaktaking, so much so that a national observatorty facilty is located on hills surrounding the valley in which the ranch is locsted.
The only negstive was that rooms need a little upgrade to remove items such as redundant airconditioning systems that detract from the experience. Otherwise the rooms are clean, comfortable (including working fire places) and full of charm.
Finally Paul explained as we were leaving that the ranch has a cattle breeding programe under way all designed to grow their heard of ancient spanish cattle that where brought by Columbus on his second voyage to the americas and that scientists from the Univetsity of New Mexico were assisting in this effort.
De La Oso is ranch that thas been visited by many past presidents and hollywood luminaries. It is certainly well worth visting in the future.

Rancho de la Osa made for an enchanting, memorable and incredible stay. Rancho de la Osa is located at the farthest point in Arizona only a minute walk to Mexico and Sacred American Indian Tribal Lands. I Stayed for a ten-day wellness retreat and was treated royally from check-in to check-out. First impression was actual Resort Owner picked me up at Tucson Airport which was a nice touch. Staff at Rancho de la Osa made all the difference and bent over backward to accommodate any and every need. Room was yummy courtesy of western decor, furnishings and fireplace with stocked wood . Made a fire every night. Onsite Chef made bountiful American and occassional Mexican fare and all three meals meals where delicious and always bountiful including dinner dessets which always capped off a great meal. In the AM and throughout the day there was always fresh coffee, fresh fruit, hot chocolate and a nice assortment of teas. Grounds was gigantic with walking and hiking trails that seem to never end with the most beautiful foliage, cactus, trees and beauty. Rancho de la Osa has amazing stables of stunning and majestic horses to choose from. My ride and stay were memorable.

My husband and I loved our experience at Rancho De la Osa Guest Ranch. We stayed for three nights in a very roomy, rustic, and clean King Bed room. The bed was very comfortable and it is very quiet there at night so we slept great! Meals are served family style in a large dining room and everyone comes running when they ring the bell (which has a great history!). Meals were delicious and served three times a day. They do offer coffee, tea, hot cocoa and ice water all day long in a room off the dining room. There is a cantina open all day with many choices for drinks. Appetizers were placed out each evening around 4 pm in the cantina. Activity sheets are put out in the early evening for the activities offered the next day. We chose to participate in an EBike tour of Sasabe, a two hour horseback ride, shooting practice and a UTV tour to some ruins and ancient petroglyphs. All were outstanding! The staff was very welcoming and unobtrusive so you could be as busy as you wanted or not do anything at all. We also took a swim in the heated pool which was nice and clean. Pool towels were available in our room to use. It was my first experience at a Guest Ranch and I could not have been more pleased. Be aware there is no TV and internet isn't the greatest. It is supposed to be an unplugged experience so bring a book or two and enjoy your stay.

From previous reviews I had expected to have more activities and better food. Signing up for the activities is limited as it is done a day before and you may not get what you want for that day such as shooting or the ATV ride. there are quite a few hours during the day to relax and enjoy the pool or just read. However, my daughter and I found it rather boring.
Most of the people at the ranch who interact with guest have been there four months or less.
most of those leading the activities, know nothing about the wildlife and birds of the area. One even identified a deer track as a cow.
The food is pedestrian. The ambience of the historic ranch is certainly very interesting and the rooms are quite acceptable.
Based on the staff and the food and level of activities, I am not sure that I would choose another ranch associated with this group.
seeing the wall with the Mexican border and talking to staff about immigrant problems was interesting.

5 of us cowgals went to this intimate group weekend together, hosted by western singer Belinda Gail. Created great memories with friends new and old, many of the ladies were repeat visitors. Excellent riding program, fast loping rides or slow rides were both available twice a day. Wranglers were absolutely the best and so were the horses. Meals were delicious, accommodations in the 1920s era ranch great, and Belinda’s itinerary packed with special activities (and a concert too!) were thoughtful and fun. The location is remote: if you want to get away from it all, have a great time and wrap yourself in Arizona ranch life with no distractions, this is the place for you!

We had stayed at another True Ranch Collection ranch before and loved it so much that we wanted to check out Rancho de la Osa as well. We weren't disappointed! Rancho de la Osa transports you to another time and place. The remote location is beautiful and peaceful, and the service from the ranch staff is welcoming and attentive. While our stay was short, we loved going for desert rides, hanging out with the other guests in the dining room and the cantina, and visiting Debbie's Hilltop Bar in Sasabe with the wranglers and locals. As long as you're down for rustic adventure, you will have a blast.

We just spent 3 glorious days at Rancho de la Osa. When I say that this was one of the best vacation experiences we have ever had and we travel I sincerely mean it
From beginning I to end it was Perfect.
Bob our host could not have been better. The man is a treasure. The staff without exception was superior. “Beer for my horses, Whiskey for my persons “
We laughed, learned, and relaxed.
Our room was the Eleanor Roosevelt suite and it was marvelous. It was spacious comfortable with front and back patios .the interior was beautifully Southwestern right down to the vintage Native Indian Blankets on the walls ( Navajo I believe )
Don’t get me started on the meals, they were so good unexpected hats off to the Chiefs and staff.
The staff and management were so accommodating and friendly. They made you feel at home and not like a duck out of water.
The activities were suitable for all no matter your abilities, skills or lack of.
My dreams and fantasies of being of Oakley Were dashed but I had so much fun, the horses were wonderful and pick to suit our sizes and skill sets.
If you think I am overstating our experience please go to the Rancho and see for your self.

We had a 3 generation family vacation with 8 people. Seniors, children & adults.
Rooms are basic but clean. Food was outstanding. (Even took care of food allergies).
We rode beautiful, well groomed & trained horses twice a day. The wranglers were helpful & knowable about the area, made inexperienced riders comfortable.
We rode horses into dessert for a full breakfast… among the beautiful scenery.
Cantina was fun… nice bar to purchase drinks & soft drinks from . ( children enjoyed putting drinks on tab ).
We felt comfortable letting the children roam around;to corral to see horses, to pool or cantina.
Enjoyed camp fire at night, archery, shooting & pool.

First of all, this is not a spa resort. Don’t come here if that is what you’re looking for. It is a great place to relax and participate in some wonderful ranch activities. We are not experienced horseback riders but if you are, they offer a wide range of rides from one hour to half a day, even lessons if you’re looking to improve your riding skills. For us, simple trail rides thru the desert were what we hoped for and they did a great job with them. When we weren’t riding horses, there were UTV tours to historic ruins or along the border wall (something to see, no matter what you think of it), ebike tours around Sasabe and hikes around the ranch property.
Meals were amazing! Since the ranch is fairly small, you all dine in one room so interesting conversations are easy to have with guests and staff. The Cantina is the place to be in the evenings, either for more conversing, just relaxing or listening to some superb cowboy poetry from Ross Knox. There are no TV’s and internet is spotty but that’s the way it should be on a ranch vacation.
This was a wonderfully relaxing and interesting place to spend a few days.

This is not a 5 star spa resort, it is a genuine ranch and a great experience. No TV and limited internet/phone service(but available) This was a great 3 day escape and disconnect. The food is great, breakfast, lunch and dinner acclaimed by the dinner bell at 8:30, 12:30 and 6:30. The horseback riding is fun, and there is a Fast Ride available for the very experienced riders. The UTV trail rides expose you to the true beauty of the area. The visit far exceeded my expectations.
