From previous reviews I had expected to have more activities and better food. Signing up for the activities is limited as it is done a day before and you may not get what you want for that day such as shooting or the ATV ride. there are quite a few hours during the day to relax and enjoy the pool or just read. However, my daughter and I found it rather boring. Most of the people at the ranch who interact with guest have been there four months or less. most of those leading the activities, know nothing about the wildlife and birds of the area. One even identified a deer track as a cow. The food is pedestrian. The ambience of the historic ranch is certainly very interesting and the rooms are quite acceptable. Based on the staff and the food and level of activities, I am not sure that I would choose another ranch associated with this group. seeing the wall with the Mexican border and talking to staff about immigrant problems was interesting.…
Took a father/son road trip across the American southwest. Two Canadians, eh, checking out the air museum in Palm Springs, Rancho De La Osa in New Mexico, the artistry of Marfa, Texas, and city life in Austin. So about the ranch. Yes, you can smell the history of this place in the dusty winds and something lives on here in serendipitous ways. Host Bob welcomed us with genuine country charm and, over the days and shared-meals ahead, we came to seek some points of view. Think you have a problem? Poke quiet Bob for some pearls of wisdom - from experience flying helicopters in Vietnam to running ranches across the West - and you learn more about the world and how to treat people in one sentence. The guests from across the USA and abroad were equally fascinating - exchanging interests across the big meal table or around a bonfire. The conversations were personal, respectful, authentic. And when no one spoke for a time, there was a crackling fire. Even the shared silence was good. Yes - there was riding, shooting, ATV'ing, etc (with a wonderful staff that kept everyone safe) but the "experience" was deeper. If you can share a little and listen a lot there is much to learn from the land and fellow dudes at Rancho De La Osa.…
We had a wonderful time. It rained the day we arrived- which was a blessing as the trails were not dusty the whole week. We had a good size lunch when we got there. But all we were offered foreigner was a soup-it was excellent. but not a huge bowl. We all expected it wasn't the main course but it was! They did give us dessert that night-and every night which was good. Seemed like they just needed to up their game a little. The mat in our bathrooms so ragged it looked like a rag. There was a popcorn machine- the last night we said something- they said just make it. I asked them to. No popcorn. We were supposed to 'do cows' Very pleasant but though they said yes, it never happened. Very pleasant people, accomodating but didn't follow through. New manager. There was dog manure on the walkway to the restaurant. Was there several hours in the morning. Finally I had to tell the manager. Dog manure (can't use 'profanity') by the pool that we didn't complain about and they never cleared it up while we were there. The dogs were very friendly though. The day after the rain the horses were muddy- unusual I think. So pretty unorganized about getting them ready. Groomed saddle are only. There was still mud on their faces and other body parts 3 days later. No library, The first horse I had would take off if asked to go past a walk. So I tried him in. Second horse was SUPER. One of the best horses I've had (been to lots of ranches), Our room was not the largest but good. Almost all had front porches. We also had a patio. We were on the end. Very quiet. No evening entertainment…
There are hardly words to explain how special our stay was here. The staff, Carleigh, Bob and Chase went above and beyond to make us feel appreciated and welcomed. The wranglers were fun and made our rides so fantastic. We had the best time and booked our return trip immediately
We just spent 3 glorious days at Rancho de la Osa. When I say that this was one of the best vacation experiences we have ever had and we travel I sincerely mean it From beginning I to end it was Perfect. Bob our host could not have been better. The man is a treasure. The staff without exception was superior. “Beer for my horses, Whiskey for my persons “ We laughed, learned, and relaxed. Our room was the Eleanor Roosevelt suite and it was marvelous. It was spacious comfortable with front and back patios .the interior was beautifully Southwestern right down to the vintage Native Indian Blankets on the walls ( Navajo I believe ) Don’t get me started on the meals, they were so good unexpected hats off to the Chiefs and staff. The staff and management were so accommodating and friendly. They made you feel at home and not like a duck out of water. The activities were suitable for all no matter your abilities, skills or lack of. My dreams and fantasies of being of Oakley Were dashed but I had so much fun, the horses were wonderful and pick to suit our sizes and skill sets. If you think I am overstating our experience please go to the Rancho and see for your self. …
My wife and I just returned from Rancho de la Osa, and after hoping for an authentic 'dude ranch' experience, we were not disappointed. The grounds are over 300 years old! This place was the real deal! If you want a delicate spa type break, this is not the place, but if you want to explore the SW, and feel like you have slipped back in time, then get out and visit. The rooms were very nice, and the grounds were well kept. This place is small, there were only a dozen guests when we were there, but it holds more. We went on 2 horse rides, went ATV riding to see petroglyphs, shoot rifles, visited a ghost town, hiked to an ancient cemetery, and each one was fun. We highly recommend Rancho de la Osa! P.S. If you are there Saturday afternoon, go in to town for a drink, you won't be disappointed.…
We had stayed at another True Ranch Collection ranch before and loved it so much that we wanted to check out Rancho de la Osa as well. We weren't disappointed! Rancho de la Osa transports you to another time and place. The remote location is beautiful and peaceful, and the service from the ranch staff is welcoming and attentive. While our stay was short, we loved going for desert rides, hanging out with the other guests in the dining room and the cantina, and visiting Debbie's Hilltop Bar in Sasabe with the wranglers and locals. As long as you're down for rustic adventure, you will have a blast.
I've just returned from 8 nights at Rancho de la Osa. I was the first guest of the season. Great horses, very friendly staff, comfortable accommodation, good food – I had a great week! Thanks all! I had shied away from visiting this ranch in the past because of its proximity to the Mexican Wall. However, at no time did I feel unsafe. The Border Patrol are very much in evidence so I would have no hesitation in recommending this ranch.
We were happy to finally utilize our precovid reservations. The remote setting of this ranch on the border gave us a new perspective of that part of our country and of the present issues people living there are dealing with on a daily basis. We were there for 3 nights and two full days during which we enjoyed our trail ride to the wall passing the historic cemetery, shooting, and the ATV ruins tour. Unfortunately we did not stay long enough for my husband, a very experienced rider to have a ride that would let him use his skill set although as a novice I enjoyed the walking pace of the trip to the border. Our room was very quiet . It was cool while we were there but we were warm and cozy under the wonderful Pendleton blankets and comforters. The breakfast buffet had something for everyone and we enjoyed the evening appetizers. We also drove to surrounding towns for dinner and to visit historic tourist sites. The highlight of our stay however were the ranch dogs that are obviously so happy there.…
We had the most wonderful tie at Rancho de la Osa. The wranglers, the cooks, the hospitality staff are all amazing. They make you feel at home, and take wonderful care to make sure you are comfortable. The horseback rides along The Wall, and around the desert were fun. The 4x4 adventure to the ruins was both informative and exciting. Highly recommend a trip. We stayed 4 days 3 nights. We will be back! Thank you!!! Cowgirl True Getaway 2022
